Had a fantastic meal for my birthday! We drove from Banner Elk, NC for a day in Abingdon. The Tavern never disappoints! My pasta dish special with scallops was perfect. I asked for light sauce and the fresh tomatoes and mushrooms really stood out! The service was excellent! Hunter, our server was super nice and helpful. And of course the atmosphere never disappoints. I loved being near the gas logs. One of the very best restaurants around!

The atmosphere was historic, but friendly and the food was great. I enjoyed the uneven brick flooring, the warm fireplaces, and door latches.
The food was really good. The menu is elevated and the cocktails were well balanced.
Be sure to make reservations a week or so in advance and don't skip dessert!
Get the peanut butter pie!

The food was excellent. The ambiance was incredible. Shout out to Ezra who took incredible care of us for our brunch. One of the best dining experiences I've had in quite some time. Will definitely be back. Shame on me...this this was my first trip here and I'm a local🫤

We had an excellent dinner at the back bar at The Tavern! The food was delicious and exactly what we wanted! We had the brie cheese, The Ferracci, and a garden salad with stuffed salmon with loaded baked potato sides. If you want to sit in the main dining area, be sure to call and make reservations days in advance.

From the phone call to book reservations, to when we walked out the door after dinner, we were highly satisfied. We were traveling to Abingdon a while back and wanted a great restaurant to dine at. A friend had dined here before, and recommended it to us. I called to make reservations prior, and little did I know; the owner Josh, answered the phone. He politely took our reservations, and then we were set. Our server Hunter was great and provided impeccable service. We wanted to try something really tasty, so had to go with the stuffed fillet mignon, and the scallops au gratin. Also the stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer is a must also. The food was absolutely superb! This restaurant has excellent reviews and they certainly lived up to their fine reputation. Jeremiah provided great service also. The other patrons we nice to talk with, and overall we had excellent dining experience. Thank you to all. 5 🌟

We’ve been here three times now and going back for our fourth next week! We just moved to the area three years ago. The Tavern by far is our favorite restaurant for special occasions! We love it! The historic building inside, the fabulous outdoor dining in the summer, the food quality and service are 2nd to none!

It's been several years since we've had dinner here, but still the great restaurant we remembered. Busy for a Thursday evening but the service was great, Hunter was very good. I had the NY Strip with sweet potato and salad. Cooked as requested medium rare tasted delicious. We definitely will return in the future.
Update from 11/2/23 Had a delicious dinner just a couple of things that were disappointing. We'd ordered a piece of cheesecake for dessert and when we started eating it, it was still frozen in the center. No problem we'll take it with us and have it later. We asked our server (twice) for a container to take with us. Know they we busy but our request was forgotten. Because of time we couldn't wait any longer and had to leave.

A true pleasure to the senses - sight, smells, tastes, and atmosphere - all truly delightful.

This is a reservation required dining experience, but one worthy of preparation. The party I was with had a 5pm reservation, which was splendid. We were taken upstairs to a room with a warm fireplace and ambient lighting. The staff were incredibly kind and consistent. They were understanding my dietary restrictions and needs and accommodated so generously.

The appetizers and entrees were delicious. My pork was cooked to perfection and well seasoned. If you have the opportunity to share a meal at the Tavern, please take the opportunity.

5 stars for this historic dining experience. The brie was my favorite part but it was all delicious. It's also worth walking around the inside to take in all the historic trimming.

Everything was so delicious. I ordered the salmon and I was served 2 large pieces and it was amazing! The garlic parmesan dressing in the salad was good and carrot cake was really good! No one ordered anything they didn't like! It was pricey but for a nice night out I don't feel like I wasted my money.

Another local gem worth tracking down if you're passing through the Doswell, VA area. The staff were super friendly and made recommendations of things I would normally not try but ended up loving it. Don't overlook their crispy roasted brussel sprouts as a side. And the pimento cheese sauce brought back visions of a tormented childhood of bad food, but in this case the chef likes to take foods we hated as children and turn them gourmet. The pub burger was delicious. The fried grits balls are a pleasant take and gives you the crunchy exterior of hush puppies and the creamy interior of grits. The sweet pepper jam dipping sauce paired very well with it.

One night was dinner at The Tavern. This place was amazing. The food was great. And the waiter Dwyane provided the best service I have ever had. He told us some ghost stories...suggested great dessert, oh and was wearing a NASA watch which of course I had to comment on! (He's getting a care package soon!) The building in which the restaurant is located looks like early America. The bar in the restaurant is the oldest in Virginia and the 8th oldest in the United States.

One table for 2 was located upstairs and contained a drawer full of "love notes" from patrons from all over the country, possibly even the world.

10 stars!

Love this place, a beautiful part of Abingdon’s preserved history. You can ask your servers about some of the many ghost stories about this place and most of them will be able to tell you several. Always amazing food, try the baked brie there’s nothing like it anywhere else!!

Absolutely amazing, my husband and I both had the stuffed filet paired with a red wine our server recommended, everything was cooked to absolute perfection. I finished with the creme Brule which was delicious! Our server was fantastic and shared some cool history about the building, she was fantastic! We will Absolutely be back again.

1st visit to this special historic tavern for drinks & desserts while visiting Abingdon to celebrate a birthday. The staff was very friendly and helpful to assist us in our celebration. Melanie is a very experienced SUPERB bar tender! We look forward to visiting there again for dinner too.

This is probably the best finer dining establishments I've been to. One of the oldest historical buildings in Abingdon. It's SO cool that not only is it still intact, but it's still being used and for the most part still looks like it probably would've back in the day! My favorite thing about the place other than the atmosphere is that they don't overprice their food! Yes the food is higher dollar than your average chain place, but you're definitely getting your money's worth! Service is great. Food is excellent (especially the filet mignon). And unlike other places that up their prices just because of the atmosphere and food presentation but then serve you a plate with skimpy portions... you get decent portion sizes here and don't have to pay extra for starter dishes like bread just because it's a nicer restaurant. I never feel like I overpayed for what I got here and everything always comes out cooked and seasoned perfectly. Me and my husband come for our anniversary every year.
