Three Mules Welding Supplies

Great place with people that know their business well.

I've been stationed in Maryland for three years and have been trying to find supplies in the DC metro area. Living in southern Maryland is nice but sometimes it's hard to find things. This place has so much stuff that I have needed or have been looking for and not been able to find! The guys that work here are friendly and even stayed open to the last minute for a gas bottle Exchange. You really have to come here to understand how much stock these guys carry it really is mind-boggling!

They hooked me up with an Argon bottle for a TIG welder in minutes; they also had filler metal at prices at or below those I get online. Seriously, I usually expect to get rolled hard by a local welding supply company, but these folks are top notch and better than reasonable.

The shop in Mechanicsville is crammed with welding gear - pretty much any part you need for your equipment, or to use it. Some of it is better organized than others, but if you ask a question they will find it for you. The sell new Miller and ESAB, as well.

Without going into details, the guy behind the counter offered some help that surprised me in generosity, It was a small thing, but in today's world someone doing something nice is a big deal. Most would just upsell the hell out of you for kicks.

I had previous expereince with the Lexington Park shop (smaller) for another bottle of gas and they were also quite nice. But the Mechanicsville shop has a lot more in stock.

For those looking for bottles or gear, I suggest you call these folks. They are worth the drive from wherever you are. Bottle prices are pretty much the same as the "big" vendors, but Three Mules won't drag you through corporate hoops setting up an annual tank lease. If you are a small shop or weekend welder, these people are your friends. Prices for filler and other gear is significantly better than other local welding supply houses, and comparable to online. Amazing.

I almost went to PraxAir yesterday because it was on the way home from my customer's work site, but am glad I held out for Three Mules. Their prices on filler/electrode was close enough that I will probably avoid buying online again - for me, "buy local" is important. You will miss your local shops after Amazon kills them.

EDIT: Three Mules epitomizes "Southern Maryland" charm. Maryland's DC-Baltimore corridor can be a harsh place but I like to tell everyone, "Maryland is beautiful on its edges." St. Mary's and Calvert are perfect examples of civility in the toxic landscape tha defines the DC/Beltway bubble.

My favorite GO TO place for all my welding supplies. Everyone is very helpful and super knowledgeable! 3 Mules has it all!
