A cozy shop and such sweet staff! A lot of room to sit and unwind, quiet enough to work, and a nice book selection.

I agree with another reviewer that the book organization makes it difficult to find anything specific but great for finding something you may not have otherwise picked up.

As per most book stores nowadays, there are a bunch of mugs and nice stationery too!

What a tremendous place to relax, have a bite, sip on tea, and learn.

With a selection of almost 20 different local blend teas, dozens of syrups, and well equipped baristas you'll be sure to find something to adore here. Have a bite from the selection of locally baked goods from the case, I've never had anything I didn't love 💕

Most importantly, read from the selection of 100s of books from dozens of different genres. Unsure what to read? Check out their staff recommendations area or take a peek at the customer recommendation cards lining the shelves.

Don't forget to admire all the lovely busts dotting the store done by local artists!

I hope you enjoy this place as much as I do 💕

I absolutely love the ambiance here. This book store is also a quaint cozy coffee shop offering an array of coffee and tea. They also offer baked goods made in house.

Bookstore / coffee shop with a great vibe! The building is a former Ford dealership and it’s been beautifully restored.

I always love visiting this bookstore. A great place to browse for books and gifts, have coffee with family and friends, or spend a little time reading or writing in the presence of neighbors.

Thornwell Books is a super cool place! Very classy. The store has a wonderful selection of books, but not just any books, books that have been carefully selected by the owners. Many books even have the store owner's recommendations with descriptions hand written on cards.

The coffee bar serves expertly made great tasting coffee, americanos, lattes and more. Their craft bakery has a wonderful selection of great tasting treats. Everything from chocolate chip cookies to bacon date scones (my favorite).

There are many places to hang out. There's even two lofts where one can chill, read, visit, get on a laptop. They even think of the little things like USB ports on some their outlets.

There are many touches of whimsy that brightens up the store. There is everything from fun cleverly decorated busts to different items and gifts they sell. They even have a cool Star Trek mug that the different characters "beam" from one side of the cup to the other when a hot beverage is poured into it! What fun! I bought three: one for myself and the other two as gifts!

I usually visit 2 to 3 times a week and drink americanos, read and visit: the store is becoming a social hub.

Thornwell Books is truly a stand alone destination that is worth coming to. It's a touch of Asheville in downtown Morganton.

It’s no secret that books have the ability to transport us, inspire us, and change our perspective. However finding a Bookstore with the perfect atmosphere, that delicate balance of a warm welcome paired with gentle relaxation is difficult to find. Thornwell Books has done just that, they’ve mastered the art of aesthetics. Walking in not only will you be greeted by the gentle smells of fresh coffee and baked goods but the store itself will please all your senses in just the right way. This place truly is a gem and worth a visit, and that one taste will have you coming back for more.

This is just the cutest place! I spent some time here working on my laptop - the seating is plentiful and comfy, lots of outlets, etc. "The Austen" latte was delicious and staff was really kind.

Lovely bookstore and a GREAT cafe. I had the lemon blueberry scone and lemon lavender scone. I wasn’t sure what tea I wanted, so they made me a custom drink based on their favorite. So good! It is some type of a berry drink.

The coffee drinks are made from excellent coffee and their named after famous authors. They bring in treats from a local bakery, and what I have tried is excellent. The bookstore is an amazing place with lots of gift ideas. You can enjoy coffee and teas and bring a laptop to get caught up on work. They have the sweetest dog as well. Give pets, and it will be your best friend while you are there. The prices are good too.

Such a unique bookstore with a little something for every kind of reader. The cafe staff were so friendly and even made a custom drink for my toddler. It’s the small things in customer service like that, that make a big impact!

I adore this place. Adore. Every latte is delicious and the food too. Not to mention that they’re fueling my book addiction. Couldn’t recommend the place more, if you want a calm, happy atmosphere and love books don’t walk, run.

Great place to chill and get coffee and a book or two. I had The Poe to drink. The dark chocolate and peanut butter made for a great iced coffee. Be warned, though, the ink from their logo comes off of your fingers. I recommend taking your own sleeve.
