My brother, Phillip Hersey spent the last 6 months here, till his death 2 weeks ago. The care he got was outstanding.
the nurses, and healthcare people right down to the office staff couldn’t have been any better to Phil and his family he was given attention and the hygiene were wonderful. Donna, his wife and me (his sister) were so pleased. Much love and thank you to Josh and his staff .

I have worked at the Barron Center since 2004, started in housekeeping and now in Life Enrichment. I love what I do and enjoy being in their home each day spending time with them. They are truly family to me and we enjoy going on trips and so many other things, it brings my ❤ joy. Thank you to all my amazing coworkers who have been here through these years especially these last three. It’s so hard to be on the front lines and go through those times but thanks for remaining string for them!!

My sister-in-law has been a resident at the Barron Center for 3 years. As her Guardian I am responsible for monitoring her well-being. I am so profoundly grateful to the staff for their kind and competent care. She is always clean, groomed and dressed well. Staff are not evasive when you ask for health updates. From the floor nurses and supervisor to the social work staff, families are encouraged to participate in your loved ones care plans. The top administrators have been especially candid in their weekly updating of Covid related news. Even the Business office is helpful and patient when dealing with the bureaucratic headaches of complicated elder care systems. But it is the daily care that has impressed us most. There is a dedication you feel from the staff for this important work. Many staff members have been there for over 20 years and more. To me, that speaks volumes about the community of care so prevalent at the Barron Center. We thank them from the bottom of our hearts.

My grandmother has been at the Barron Center for a couple years and I am always impressed with how caring and friendly the staff is. Not just the wonderful nurses, but the CNAs and housekeeping are incredibly kind and generous. Even though this past year has been so difficult, the staff has been beyond incredible. I can’t imagine how difficult this has been for them and they still make sure to keep us updated about my grandmother. And working to get visits. A special shout out to Haley for being so kind to my grandmother. But everyone has been amazing. I really can’t imagine better people to take care of my grandmother. I wish I knew how to really thank everyone there. You have all been amazing.

I have been very impressed with the Barron Center. My mother has been disabled with dementia for three years. She was placed in a private home initially but we quickly learned that they were not sufficiently trained to cope with higher level dementia patients. They were incompetent. My mother was transferred to the Barron Center. What a difference!! Trained, compassionate care-givers. Yes, it is a state run institution; the wall paper isn't new, the floors are stained; but the care-givers are compassionate and respond remarkably well to their charges. My mother has done well there.

As the Mother of a resident at the Barron Center I would like to express my appreciation for all of the loving care that my son has received during these stressful times. All communications between the Barron Center and myself could not have been better. A big thank you to Social Services, all the Nursing Staff, House keeping, Maintenance and the Nutrition Staff. For some reason my computer would not accept the five stars I want to give' They certainly deserve a five star review

I was a rehab patient here for a couple of weeks recently and I have to tell you, this place knocked my socks off. Having stayed in another local rehab facility about a year ago, I feel I have the basis for a good comparison. We're talking night and day. High points for me were: most of the rooms are private; big screen TV with remote; excellent and well prepared food. Also, a knowledgeable and caring staff; everyone, including the cleaning people were so willing to be helpful. And last but not least the place is SO CLEAN!! And that's just the tip of the iceberg as there were lots of pleasant ways to pass the time besides watching television. There is a hair stylist who will cut your hair (men and women) and do pretty much anything basic. There is a one-person whirlpool that I enjoyed several times during my stay. I also loved having access to a gorgeous and top of the line computer that is hooked up to cable and lightening fast. In short, my stay here was most pleasant and I would recommend it to everyone. I can't see how you could be disappointed unless you're impossible to please and expect a five-star hotel.

I would probably give 4 3/4 stars if that was an option simply because there are always things to improve upon. That said, I am very happy with the staff at this facility. My father is a resident and I believe he has been very well cared for. The facility was able to stave off Covid-19 much longer than many Maine facilities, and when Covid finally hit it was all hands on deck. My father has advanced COPD and is on oxygen. He did get Covid...and he survived! He graduated from the Covid ward over a week ago. I'm grateful for all of the employees who work there. It's not the "prettiest" nursing home, but they spend money on their employees and to me, that's more important. It's also the only nursing home I've been to that doesn't smell of stale urine. I'm happy that my father is able to live there. The staff and administration of The Barron Center are top notch.

My father was here for a year and a half. I hated the place. It was very dirty. They had cloth seats for the patients to sit in out in the main room. I can not understand why they had chairs that were not washable in a place where people were incontinent? Every chair was stained and nasty!

My fathers clothes were missing shoes were missing, his glasses were missing for 2 weeks, they even lost his teeth.

There were times that I went there and didn't see anyone that was suppose to be taking care of the patients for 45 minutes. One time a caretaker was crying saying she could not handle the patients. My father was in the Alzheimer unit.

My father got hit by other patients and there was one patient that would not leave the other patients alone. She would lift her shirt and expose herself, she would touch men in an inappropriate way. When I complained the answer I got was that she didn't know what she was doing and no they couldn't keep her away from other patients.

If you have any other choice do not put your love one in this place!
