Johnston Bait and Tackle

I own a box turtle who loves nightcrawlers. I need to be able to keep worms alive and fresh as she can only eat about 4 at a time. Johnston Bait and Tackle staff are always friendly and willing to help. Their nightcrawlers are always healthy and well taken care of. I plan to continue shopping here in the future.

Space to park if you are towing your boat. Good variety of bait/tackle. Friendly service, modern clean restroom. Visit during posted business hours and someone is there to get you going and get you on your way. Family owned.

I had a 5 star interaction with the boys from Johnston Bait and Tackle. First let me say, if you're born in the 80s or before do ya miss the relationships one builds with their favorite store, aquatics center, garage you name it? I do. Today I found that though at this business. I was helped first by one gentleman and then two. There was no question to stupid and trust me im new to fishing so I had QUESTIONS! Patience, they had it. Knowledge, they had it, commitment to fitting someone with the right product vs. The most expensive sale, they did it. They one my trust today, and not only that but reestablished my belief that small business isn't dead. It isn't if you are in business doing what you love and know.

My favorite smell is baitshop. If you need live bait, this is your kind of place. Always willing to listen to my fish tales. Good selection of lures, plastics, hooks, sinkers, etc. This is your shop if catching fish is what you do!

Went in for the first time a week ago and this is the perfect example of a small business trying to make it through great customer service. Although it is a little more expensive to purchase tackle/rods/reels from here, it's worth it to keep local small business alive and well! My new favorite bait shop!

This is the place where I like to take my business to. Competitive prices to the bigger outdoor stores around the area plus some good insight on fishing, where they are biting, and what to use.looking forward to using my new Lews baitcaster that I just bought from here!

Very friendly staff that always know whats going on as far as local fishing. Decent prices on most items. It is a little out of my way but worth the trip if I get some info as far as what is biting and where at.

Never a scrub minnow, each and every one is tasty treat for Crappie & Walleye. Get more bites, when using their bait, than any others, in Des Moines Metropolitan area.

Staff is friendly, helpful and, for those who need it, knowledegable in what is working, right now.
