I must confess I am a Cashew Chicken snob! I come from Springfield, MO, (Where Cashew Chicken was invented) and I love the meal there. That being said, I was excited to hear finally, after 23 years of living here. Someone had listed on their menu, "Springfield Cashew Chicken". I will say it is close, but not exactly there yet; but they are better than anyone in Iowa I have tried, (And I have tried a lot! Ha).
Ok, here we go; this place is very nice, clean, service was very good (and always smiling). The food was Hot, fresh, generous portions, and delicious. This is my new spot for Chinese food, for lunch and dinner.

Fast, friendly service. The food was very very fast. Ordered two dishes and they were out within 10 minutes. The food were tasty and flavorful. The orange chicken was awesome, however, it lacks chicken. Just alot of fried fillers (breading). The chicken fried rice was very good. The hot and sour soup was delicious. I do not recommend the egg roll or crab rangoon. The egg roll was one of those processed factory made eggroll. It was soggy, mushy, oily, and super gross.

Overall, it's above average for fast Chinese. However, I probably won't try it again.

I come here for lunch regularly with coworkers, and it never disappoints. I try to get something different every time, and I have yet to choose something I didn't like. The flavors are wonderful, and the service is great. Everyone I have had an encounter with is very warm and welcoming.

Ordered for delivery, on several occasions. Best chicken fried rice, egg rolls, and egg drop soup I’ve ever had! Will definitely have to dine in soon.

Good prices for Great food. Kung POW made right. Real chili oil if you like it hot. Egg drop soup is thick and flavorful and the egg roll is crunchy not greasy.

Ordered takeout for the first time and it was a great and safe experience. Food was ready 5 minutes early. I ordered the cashew chicken dinner and I highly recommend it. The portions were large, the vegetables were fresh, and it was way better compared to the Chinese food at Hy-Vee.

Update: This is a regular spot for me. I still order the cashew chicken and I recommend adding the extra meat ($4). Still an excellent value and meal. However be aware they will charge you an extra 4% if you use a credit card so bring cash.

Always wonderful Fresh food, Fast service...with a smile. Nice variety of choices. Staff outstanding friendly. Never disappointed. Oh ,yes it is also AFFFORDABLE.

We moved to the Des Moines area about 8 years ago and have tried to find an Asian restaurant that could come close to our favorite one in Ohio. I think we’ve gone to every Asian restaurant in the Des Moines area, always walking away disappointed.

FINALLY! China Cafe is now that restaurant!

Our food was hot, flavorful, and the best we’ve had in 8 years. We are thrilled to have found a neighborhood restaurant that hits all the right tasty buttons!

I ordered spicy but wanted it more than their normal spicy and it was hot 🔥 but not overbearing just right. Plenty of food and good! Military friendly too. If you choose to show Military ID a discount is provided. I opted out but it's available!

Every detail from presentation, the seasoning, the service, quality of the food, was absolutely delicious. Cooked to perfection, the melody of flavors will make lift your spirits. The wonton soup, the best I have ever had in America. Very authentic with a hint of americanized.

I highly recommend this restaurant. The price for my meal was $10 and gladly would have paid 50% more.

Ordered meal for pickup - was given 20 minute wait, it was ready when we arrived. No issue with splitting order for payment. One of the best Chinese restaurants I’ve been to in DSM. I will definitely be returning. Reasonable prices and large portions - vegetables were fresh.

Went during lunch time and ordered at the counter for a carry out. The service and pricing is unbeatable! The staff are very quick, efficient, and extremely friendly. The deal during lunch is definitely a good one and the food is incredibly delicious. Not your average Chinese restaurant, definitely a new favorite!

We hadn't heard of China Cafe but just happened to stop 2 weeks ago while driving by. It is wonderful! We made the drive to go again last night. Great service, very clean and delicious food! We will definitely become regular customers.

Great quality take out with generous portions. Fresh tasting, especially the vegetables, and great customer service. Having eaten here a few times, I can say that China Cafe consistently delivers a great meal.

I think this was the best crab Rangoon I have ever had in my life! The sesame chicken was also awesome and this is definitely a new favorite for me!

This place is soooo good! We got the sesame and orange chicken which were both super delicious. The egg drop soup is rly tasty as well. Great price point. Will be back for sure

My wife and I love this for a quick lunch. The 2 of us eat off the lunch menu for about $12. Friendly staff and the food is good. They do have spicy dishes if you're into that.

My husband and I’s favorite Chinese food in Des Moines!! We always order the Lo Mein and it is consistently so good every time. Food is always fresh and hot! My favorite is the sesame shrimp and spring rolls! Highly recommend.
