Kapiolani Coffee Shop-Waimalu

Finally, back at Kapiolani Coffee Shop located in the Waimalu Shopping Plaza to try the Oxtail Soup XL. They were loaded with oxtail throughout the soup. The broth was clean but rich although it was a tad bit salty for my taste. Oxtails were nice and tender and there were peanuts in broth as well as maybe orange or tangerine rinds with a hint of star anise.

It also came with 4 scoops of rice and the shoyu ginger for dipping. Love the atmosphere here. Very Clean place and they also have a takeout counter too. The price might be steep, but it easily feed two people. Definitely did not disappoint and left feeling satisfied.

Definitely coming back to this iconic Coffee Shop. Definitely love nostalgia and Kapiolani Coffee Shop has that feel to it. Help support Local Businesses.

I got to try their famous oxtail soup and it was onolicious! I ordered the mini which was packed with enough meat to leave me feeling stuffed! Definitely have to come back again one day! Maybe I'll try their pigs feet soup 😋

Beef stew was one of the best on island. Beef was tender and the potatoes and carrots were cooked perfectly too. Kalbi was tender and nicely seasoned. Char siu ramen was good - char siu was really tender. Great friendly service.

I haven't been here in years. And it is exactly as I remember it. The weight is short don't let the line overwhelm you. The food is great. The only negative that I experience was the flies were flying on the ketchup bottle and the Shoyu bottles. A few times the fly landed on my husband's water cup. Plus the type of music they play was a very disturbing.

11/20/2021 Hubby was craving Kim Chee fried rice. He remembered that he saw a sign posted some time ago so we came here for takeout. He ordered Kim Chee fried rice with two eggs and got me a bacon & egg sandwich. He said his rice was had a good flavor and had a lot of Kim chee in it l. I loved my sandwich! I'm picky about sandwiches and this one had all the parts right. Great bread, bacon was cooked crispy, scrambled eggs were fluffy, and the lettuce was crunchy. There was a perfect amount of mayo. Simple and awesome!

This is one of the best place to get ox tail soup....highly recommend it....also you can change regular to their fried rice..... lup cheong fried rice is so ono....almost finish the whole thing.....don't let the name confuse you they have good food....

This place is small and popular with the locals who will swear by the ox tail soup so be prepared to wait for a table. Fortunately the service is super quick so you will not wait long.

As I hinted in my introduction, if you love ox tails, this is the place you need to be. The Kapiolani Coffee Shop is a small mom and pop place with fast friendly service. The Ox tail soup was full of meat nice served in light broth served with a side of white rice. Be sure to dip your meat in the freshly ground ginger and soy sauce to make it extra special. Kim-chee fried rice topped with egg. I recommend going with over easy or even sunny side up but anyway you order your egg you will enjoy the flavorful rice dish. The shoyu chicken is also worth a try. A healthy portion of chicken thighs cooked in their (I'm guessing) shoyu sauce served with macaroni or green salad and white rice.

Friendly staff. Great atmosphere. This is one of my "go to" spots for good local comfort food.

Seriously our first time here. Oxtail soup was our main reason to go. It was served with lots of cilantro, minced ginger on the side and a couple scoops of rice. It was filling and tasted good. Hit the spot for craving of oxtail soup. Staff were friendly.

Im a hard customer I’m not giving 10s but this place unexpectedly got me. Oxtail is absolutely amazing . It’s pricy but worth it. Kimchi rice too . I will come back

Take out or Dine in, it's my first "goto place" for home cooking or elevated cooking when I am too lazy to cook for myself.

Small coffee shop. Has 9 tables. Upon entering around 8am my son and I were greeted & seated right away. My son got a mini teriyaki chicken plate & I got a mini chicken katsu plate. Great spot for Hawaiian comfort food.

Really good oxtail soup! The pork leg soup is heavy on the flavor but the meat taste delicious.
We didn’t know both soup comes with rice so ended up ordering too much food but everything was amazing and local.0

Gotta eat the oxtail soup no matter what. I saw the sizes that they had and it definitely wouldn't be enough for me (I can eat A LOT of oxtail soup when it's good). Asked the waitress and she said they have a jumbo size that's not on the menu. Ordered it, tasted amazing, I got full. Love this place and the friendly staff

I had the fried rice and eggs over easy. It's so delicious. My coworkers had their fried calamari, and she loved it. It's truly worth the price, as the delicious taste and they give you a good portion of food. I will definitely be going back on a regular basis.

This is where you get the real oxtail soup. I get the extra large bowl of oxtail soup every time I go there. They give the most generous portion of meat compared to most other places that try to copy the original. Four shops of rice. you better be hungry if you want the extra large. There are other entrees like plate lunches - - katsu plate, chicken, etc.
