Searles Prairie Natural Area

Still remember Ana Mar Searles leading us around her prairie on a school trip. So many flowers! The state has done a great job of preserving this as the area has exploded in population around it. The only virgin prairie left in the NWA metropolis.

One of the only natural prairie areas still in existence today in NW Arkansas. Meaning it has not been disturbed. Most of the area used to look like this small piece of land before being developed, farmed, or mowed.

I've been told the only other place that is also a natural prairie is in Harrison.

This is an oasis of nature in a desert of development. There are wildflowers, native plants, birds, and insects. It gets a bit swampy in the wet times of the year but is fairly dry in the summer months. There is no parking lot. It’s best to park at the LDS church and walk over to the natural area.
