Very impressed by this shelter. It was clean and seemed cheerful; there were many employees and volunteers who were eager to tell us about the animal's personalities; and there were areas to interact with the pets. They have online applications only, so I recommend visiting to see which pet you'd like then checking the website to inquire about that pet. After you inquire you may receive an email or text asking you to pick a time to come meet the pet and then take him/her home same day.

We got our pretty cat Sieh here!
We came early and let us look around which is a joy. The staff is approachable and friendly. They were honest about the pet history and gave advice on how to interact with the cat.
She is living her best life now 🐈‍⬛

The best choice was to adopt "bamm bamm". He has brought nothing but so much excitement and happiness into my families lives. Thank you to whoever brought him back, that wasn't the right fit. Now he's living the best life. It has been such a breeze kennel training him for bed, (which now I don't even have to shut the door he stays in there all night with it open without accidents). Potty trained and such a joy. Thank you!

Only hospital that would help my puppy with no money upfront her eye got scratched by a cat and was infected and causing her severe pain. No one else would see her. No one else would take care of her. Ended up having being removed. It was so bad. They were great

There isn't enough positive words to express how amazing Mathew from the OHS is. My husband and I adopted King, a German Shepherd, and Mathew made our experience so positive, easy, seamless, and overall, a 20/10! He walked us through the entire process, step-by-step, and never made us feel nervous or not prepared. Carolyn and Jill were extremely helpful and kind as well! This is our first time visiting OHS and adopting and it was just the best thing experience, especially because we got Mathew helping us the entire way. Thank you for the best experience one could ask for!

This is a great shelter to adopt an animal from and we just adopted a dog from it. Visiting dogs or cats while they are in their kennels is very straight-forward, just walk in during open hours, animals available for adoption also are listed on their website. The shelter is large and had so many dogs available for adoption. If interested in adopting a meet and greet with the animal is arranged with an adoption counsellor present. This is to both make sure adopted pets go to as perfect a situation as possible, and to clearly understand any special need a pet might have. We had some issues getting that visit set up through the website and ended up calling in to arrange for it. Note that in order to arrange the meet and greet they are expecting a level of commitment to making an adoption decision, so when going for in for that one has to be serious about about adopting. The adoption fees are around $450-500, which seems fair given they include spay or neuter. Recommended.

We had a wonderful adoption experience with our 6mo feline family addition. The entire staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and understanding. Eve, she is exceptional! She helped us through the entire process. Her explanations were detailed, she showed passion for her job, and has a down to earth personality. I highly recommend OHS if you're looking to adopt your future pet. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Recently had to have our cat put down he was 16 years old they made the process so much easier they sent us a card in the mail a few days later checking on us offering support programs to deal with losing a pet but just overall experience with so much easier to get through because the staff were also wonderful we were balling like babies and they were so kind and patient and understanding!! I have had to have cats put down in the past or cats that have passed away and although my past experiences with the clinics that I went to weren't bad they also were not anywhere near as five star service like we received from the Oregon Humane Veterinary Hospital I would highly highly recommend

Recently got Winston, newest member of our family who was well taken care of after a loss of limb by OHS. They knew his personality and guided me in my choice. They are a great resource for pet care and adoption.

The staff are extremely friendly and knowledgeable. I loved seeing people walk in and out wanting to pet my dog, Apollo, who is a pit. A lot are scared of him due to his size and it was refreshing having people ask if they can pet him. 🥰 Our new addition, Checkers, has fit perfectly in our family. I will most definitely recommend this location to anyone wanting to adopt!

OHS is a great place if you are looking to adopt! They have cats, dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas, hamsters, birds, etc. We adopted a kitten from here in 2014 and she is the sweetest cat ever. They are also a no-kill shelter and have affordable veterinary services (we got our other cat spayed here for pretty cheap).

One of the best things about Portland is how effective this organization is. They established "our shelter" and people in the community actively participate in the well being of the precious animals in their care. One of their most important responsibilities has been in educating the public. Bringing awareness and consciousness to those who would otherwise be distracted, unconscious or apathetic has been critical. I hope they continue to expand their effort into schools and elsewhere. They have it right and they can always use more support

I adopted my best friend here. I love that they find the right match for the dog and not just the right fit for the human. I also love how detailed the descriptions are and how involved they are in the process.

Just wanted to say I called and spoke to a “Tracy” and she was so kind and helpful. We have nothing but good things to say about this organization. Me and my partner adopted two beautiful kittens and literally everyone we spoke with was an absolute delight. We will cherish and love these kittens for the rest of their days!

So clean. Workers are excellent, thorough at their jobs, especially with follow up info. Animals seem happy. We love our new puppy, and it will be to soon, but will return for another adoption. Thank u so much

Doing amazing and important work.
Good and affordable dog training.
We foster with them regularly and the staff is a joy to work with. Donate/volunteer/adopt if you can.

We have visited the vet here about 4 times and each time has been very pleasant. They take really good care of our dog -she’s really anxious and they have us wait in an exam room instead of the waiting room. Each vet we have encountered has shown extra love, care, and compassion. The front staff has also been wonderful- answering any and all of our questions. Our dog needed some dental work done- multiple tooth extractions and a cleaning- they originally told us the wait was until November- and basically the same with other vets. Our dog started showing more signs of distress so we called OHS and they got her an appointment within the week. On the day of the appointment we dropped our dog off at 7:15 and we’re able to pick her up at 4:15. Overall-great experience

You absolutely should come find your new friend here! I've been coming to OHS to add new family members for the last 12 years.

OHS is dedicated to helping you find the perfect pet for you!

We adopted out kitten Milkshake here last year and she's been such a little joy in our lives! We adopted her brother Hamburger here about 4 years ago as an older, calm cat and decided he would like a friend last summer. Ham and Milkshake are best friends and love each other the most in the entire world! Ham loves having a kitten to snuggle with, play with, and they love having lick fights to see who can clean who best.

We're so happy that we decided to adopt, and not shop. Shelters pets are so loving and happy to be with you, please give them a chance!

Everyone working at AHS is friendly and kind. We enjoyed our visit very much. It was fun to meet the animals and visit with little Lil.

We were treated with respect and sympathy. They one bad part was one of the workers who assessed the kittens came out and asked what was wrong with mama cats mouth we though it was a deformity turned out to be an infection. I'm not a vet so I did not know she ate drank played took care of her kitties wonderfully so she had no symptoms of said infection needless to say she was very rude and condescending . The other people however were the best
