Fort Smith Fire Station #2

Today, Jan 10th, a deaf & dumb gentleman locked himself out of his vehicle at the Yellow Umbrella Drive Inn on North Greenwood Avenue. His engine was still running and his little dog was inside. He told the owner of the restaurant that he didn't have money enough to call Pop A Lock, and didn't know what to do. He was really panicking. I have the barber shop next door, and the woman who owns the Drive Inn came over and asked if I had a metal coat-hanger. I didn't, so I couldn't help him out. I suggested to the owner of the Yellow Umbrella (Nicki) that she should call the police and tell them of the situation. Withing a few minutes, three firemen from station #2 was on the scene! I over-heard one of them say they heard the call on their radio, while they were eating lunch at Patricks Burger place and decided to go help. As soon as they showed up, they went to work on opening the gentleman's door, and within a few minutes they had it open. This may not have been a big deal for the firemen, but I'll guarantee you they were real heroes in the eyes of the poor man who was locked out of his vehicle. They are heroes in my eyes also. They not only took care of the situation, but save the man from coming up with money he didn't have. So, please let the firemen know that everyone at the Yellow Umbrella are proud of them.
