We embarked on a East Coast Pizza tour and Montes made the list of contenders

Based on Dave Portnoy’s reviews this definitely was one we looked forward to

Monte’s is a small unassuming family restaurant in the small suburb of Lynn outside of Boston. On the day we visit our waitress told us the guy making/cooking the pies had been at this place for 50 years.

We ordered two pies: a sausage and a cheese. Dave rated these a 10 which is a definite stretch for me. They absolutely were great pizzas but for me it was a strong 8 maybe 9. The crust was excellent, no flop, crispy, buttery and flavorful. The sauce was delicious and mild.

The prices here are excellent - a small pizza was $10. We ordered two pizzas, buffalo chicken Rangoon’s and a house salad. My only criticism was the salad was trash. All ice burg lettuce - I wouldn’t bother with that again.

The service was great. Value was great. Everything was like $30

Bathroom was clean.

This place is definitely worth a stop but not a 10. Will definitely give 5 star though since I’d like to see it closer to 4.5

We landed here based off of Dave’s YouTube videos and app “one bite” and this place did not disappoint. We came kind of late but the server was really nice and down to earth. Pizza was incredibly yummy.
Just make sure you bring cash.

Instead of a knee jerk reaction, I decided to let my opinion marinate for a bit and it’s still the same. This has been my favorite pizza in life so far. Hands down. Stiff competition but this pizza topped them all. It was perfect. Taste, texture, look, smell. Everything. The staff was friendly as well. Even allowed me enjoy my bag of hot Funyuns that I brought while I ate my pizza. Great experience. I live in Texas and was there on vacation to visit New England. If I visit somewhere twice, I try to not repeat what I did the previous time but when I go back, a stop at this place will be required.

This is not a "5 star restaurant". It is a family owned & operated local neighborhood restaurant & bar that serves really good food at great prices. Priscilla was a great server, very friendly & personable. The baked Fisherman's platter (also available fried) consisted of Haddock, shrimp & scallops. I chose rice as my side & added a salad & roll for $2 more. The house Italian dressing is great. Everything was very FRESH tasting & flavorful. It is a CASH ONLY place & definitely recommend this place!

Absolutely wonderful experience. Chicken Parm sando is massive, a killer value & tasty AF. Pizza was all that & a bag of chips. Not too saucy, not too dry; crust cooked to absolute perfection (not burnt, not doughy, just perfect crunchy golden brown); sausage & meatball topping were chock full of flavor! Staff was so very nice! The ONLY thing I would change is allow credit cards

Food is solid, but the prices are amazing. It's why all the locals come here. Can't beat it. Friendly atmosphere and service to bring my two kids to (3 and 4 yo). Got 2 pizzas (one for me, one for the kids), 2 apple juices, and 2 IPAs for $30!

I haven't been there in over 20 plus years The dining room has been updated. But what I do remember is that the people are always so very nice The food is great. I will put this restaurant on my radar in hopes to show up there soon

This place gets 5 stars. The food is phenomenal. The service is top class. All of the workers show passion in their job. I love this classic hole in the wall joint!

This place gets a 10 in my book! Plenty of sausage and sauce. The crust is crispy without be burnt. YUMMY
I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the prices were incredible and service was also great! Just remember CASH only.

It's been over a year since we've gone, but it's still as delicious as ever. For the price, portions are ample with leftovers for later. Ya have to really check ahead if you want to dine in tho, it CAN get busy especially at dinner time. But they are tryna keep everyone safe, and have measures in place. But yes they ARE doing dine in. I feel like there are only a couple of waitresses so it can be hectic as it gets busy.But they do their best, and at least one of the girls has been there for YEARS! Great job, Monte's.. I'll definitely be back soon!!😁❤

I have been dining at Monte’s for over 40 years! Wonderful old fashioned red sauce Italian and bar pizza are the specialties. Entrees come with nice side salad. Dinner tonight was pizza and chicken parmigiana. To quote Rocco Dispirito, there are two kinds of people with respect to Parmigiana: those that love it and liars! Parking is tight. They only take cash. ATM at entrance. Worth a visit!!

Finally Tried Monte’s for the first time yesterday. The Pizza is to die for. Great, thin, Italian style/bar style pizza. I have to agree with Portnoy that while all the South Shore Bar Pizza Places are great, “Monte’s Is Better.”

Incredible thin crust pizza. An absolute must. Also discovered that fried green beans are a thing and I loved it!

Portnoy wasn't kidding, that was a good pizza. It oddly reminded me of one of those super thin frozen pizzas but with good flavor and everything else. Not too much cheese. I ate it in 10 minutes flat.

The staff were friendly, the lasagna was yummy, the pizza was too dry but okay, everything was okay.

The service here is wonderful and the atmosphere is cozy. Truly a little gem. We ordered the lunch special, which includes half of a pepperoni/cheese pizza and a garden salad.

Very good bar pizza at excellent prices. On a Tuesday night the parking lot was full and street parking was hit or miss which goes to show just how popular this place is. About 8-10 people were at the bar as well. Be advised that this restaurant is cash only, but there is an ATM onsite. We had a pepperoni pie with hot cherry peppers and some cheesy garlic bread and a beer as well. Total bill was approximately $21, can’t be beat!
