Key West Shrimp House

Key West Shrimp House doesn't look like much from the outside, but the inside is a whole different story. The food is amazing. Purely comfort food, fresh, clean ingredients make up the delicious menu. The atmosphere reminds me of the old fun King Fish restaurants that use to plague the city of Louisville, but are mostly gone now. There's a certain "hole in the wall" feel to the place, but not in a bad way. Food is amazing, drinks are excellent, the history of the building is so cool (it use to be a button factory using the shells from the Ohio river freshwater invertebrates for the buttons). Such a great time here!

The food and staff was great as always. Wife had the King crab legs, I had Lobster and Grilled Shrimp. We ordered Crab Cakes and fried onions. Got the sea food chowder and double baked potatoes with the meals, and salad bar.

I walked onto the porch of the Key West Shrimp House at 8:15 pm and was welcomed by a cheerful hostess that immediately thanked me for coming. I asked if I was too late, considering the restaurant closed in 45 minutes and she assured me, "Even if you'd walked in at 8:55, you'd still receive the same great service."
She seated me and, after finding it was my first time at the restaurant, proceeded to explain the curiosities of the not so typical salad bar. Pickled watermelon rinds, mashed potato salad, three pasta salads and an herbed marinated tomato salad were just a few of the amazing options. I remember her saying the soups were something onion, chicken something and seafood chowder. Yes, OMGoodness, whew!! I need a lifetime of that seafood chowder!!
Bryce was an amazingly attentive waiter and very personable. He was able to explain the entrées and answer all of my questions.
I ordered New York strip, medium well with lobster and double baked potato. He assured me that medium well was truly medium well. When it arrived, he asked me to check the steak to see if it was to my liking. It was a perfect medium well.
The highlight of the evening was when the hostess came over and asked me everything was to my liking. She manifested such an obvious passion about her that I had to ask if she was the owner. Of course she was, hahahaha!!! Cathy took the time to answer my queries about the history and how she became the owner. 25 minutes later and well after the restaurant had closed, we were enjoying great conversation.
I have never felt more welcomed in a restaurant. Cathy's South Carolina roots and southern charm has certainly made this a wonderful and memorable experience.

Very relaxing atmosphere and location. The menu has plenty of selections to satisfy your taste and reasonably priced. Plenty of parking is available on a hardtop lot with handicap. We came out for lunch and enjoyed the food and waitress was excellent.

Food is amazing and lots of it, you wont go away hungry! Wish we had a better waitress with better attitude and manners...

My husband and I went for the very first time on 5/4/18. As we were entering the restaurant we were greeted by the owner and she immediately greeted us with a warm smile and good ole southern hospitality. She made us feel like we were family before we even we’re seated. Our server(Jackie) was also incredible. She was very professional and personable. She knew everything about the menu and how everything was prepared. Long story short she was fabulous. Our dinner was absolutely sensational. It’s so hard any more to find a nice restaurant with great service and wonderful food, but Key West Shrimp House has it all
Great service, heavenly food, and a fabulous atmosphere. They have certainly sold us on this place and have definitely earned our return business. Anyone who is visiting Madison Indiana or even go just a bit out of there way to eat here will see what a wonderful treat you are in for.

While visiting Madison, In. for first time over Labor Day weekend 2020, many suggested trying out Key West Shrimp House. No disappointments...awesome service and best tasting dishes!!! These folks really have professional and quick service down to a science. Great "southern hospitality". Owner was ever so gracious and was not shy at helping her servers by busing tables and cleaning up after customers departed. Great menu options and homemade...to die for pies. We loved the shrimp dishes and made room for Key Lime pie and Coconut Cream pies. Try the shrimp wrapped in bacon and served in a tasty tomato sauce. It will make you want to come back for more. I know we'll be back when we next visit beautiful Madison.

Unique building with great people to welcome you. The food was fantastic. My wife and I both had the salmon, the twice baked potatoes, and salad bar. The salmon was delicious and it melted in your mouth. Our server was always there to ensure our drinks were filled. We will return the next time we visit Madison.

Stopped by for lunch and was very impressed with their social distancing setup, which includes trips to the salad bar. Yum yum.

My girl had the shrimp scampi with a side of sweet potato fries and stated it's the best she's ever had.

Me? I had the lightly battered cod with fries, which was tasty, but the salad bar was my focus of attention, and I wasn't disappointed. The bowtie pasta salad, dill pickle chunks and beets all tasted fresh and delicious.

Add a friendly, efficient and masked waitress, more than fair prices and there's no reason to not want to go back.

First time here and gotta say my wife and I were amazed by the food, the warm inviting atmosphere, and service. You can feel the history of the place alone, then the food comes out. I've never had better fried shrimp or seafood chowder. My wife had fried tilapia and it was albsolutely to do for. We're already making plans on going back and taking family!!

My wife and I had an excellent meal last Sunday night and the service was exemplary. Fast and extremely friendly! If you are lucky enough to have Davey as your server, you are in for a top notch dining experience! Ask him to get you a "Marcy" from the bar...

Great food. Older setting, but worth a visit. Friendly hostess and most serving staff and staff that buses the tables. Visited twice in three days, our server (Brice), both times, was excellent and each time there was 10 people in our party. Recommend dining early as it is a very busy place and at times run out of side dishes and at times popular entrees. They have a parking lot, but fills up quickly. Street parking is a challenge.

If you're in Madison IN and you don't stop nd eat here you're missing out. All our food was as good as it gets and the service was excellent. The owner even stopped at our table to check on us. Beautiful view of the river as well. I'll be back for sure!!!

Panama shrimp, french fried shrimp, and seafood norfolk. All 3 were delicious! Sometimes it's difficult to find good seafood when you're not on the coast, but.... Found it! The service was top notch (Thanks Dorothy!) as well. Definitely a great place to try if your heading to the falls!

Simply awesome! Best hush puppies I’ve EVER had. I had the grilled red snapper with Jamaican relish. Delicious! Their salad bar is fresh and everything tasted fabulous. The Cole slaw and potato salad was especially good. The service was great too. It was a little warm where we sat by the covered window but not intolerable. If you didn’t know any better you would think you’re in Florida vs Indiana. That’s how good it was! We will be back!
