The Columbia Fire Museum may be small, but if you enjoy the culture of the fire service, as well as the history of the Columbia Fire Department, then it’s worth it! This is a FREE museum that is located at 1800 Laurel Street. It is attached to the Columbia Fire Headquarters. The entrance is located on the Barnwell Street side. There is a visitors sign in located at the museum desk. There should be a person at the desk when you show up, but if not, there is a buzzer on the right side as you walk in, to call for someone if they are away. There is a ton of historical photos and equipment from the Columbia Fire Department. The biggest pics of equipment is an old fire truck located in the center of the museum. There are a lot of plaques and things to read. The person at the desk will give you a. Tour and history lesson if ask them. Or you can walk around on your own. The museum itself is not very big, and if you take your time, it might take you 3-44 minutes to see and read everything. There are bathrooms located into the main building, but you’ll have to ask the person at the desk to let you go through the door. Large groups (daycares, schools, scouts, churches) can call ahead and schedule a tour of the museum and fire station which is in the same building. If you just drop in unannounced, you should still be able to tour the fire station (see my review for it) but you cannot guarantee someone will be there. I would recommend if you are in the downtown area and it’s normal business hours, stopping by at least once and checking out this free museum. Especially if you have children who love firefighters or fire trucks!

The museum isn't big by any means but what they have on display and the information about local historical events and people is amazing. It was definitely worth the stop while in town.
