Lots of trains and well decorated for the holidays. The volunteer was helpful and offered to let the kids pull the horn.

Small museum; but with a lot of interesting information. No entrance fee. Children get a punched railroad "ticket" when visiting.
Very nice, clean town with lots of small town shopping.

Really cool spot and must-stop location if you have train fans in your family. You can go into the historic locomotive and it’s such a cool piece of rail history. Highly recommend.

Not open when we visited, but it was lovely to visit anyway. There is a large locomotive, another car, and a caboose with lights on the fronts glowing. These sit in the front of the charming historic train station having beautiful classic features and great for photographing.
It appears that periodically there are events...possibly musical entertainment on a stage built onto the front of a 'freight car' library. There is a small scale train track which I guess offers kids rides on a model train at certain times of the year. Directly across the street is the Motor Museum... check both out when you visit!

Great location for the kids to explore and step on to a real train. The staff was fabulous and so patient with the kids. I would recommend stopping in Oakland MD and going to the museum.

One of the most beautiful train stations in the country that has been faithfully restored. Nice displays in the station and a couple of cars to check out. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. The small 2-8-0 locomotive is cute. I caught a coal train running past.

Lots of neat exhibits inside this historic train station in Oakland, MD. Self guided tour takes less than an hour. They have a small gift shop as well.

We truly enjoyed ourselves I truly suggest to ask for the tour just walking through dosen't give you the full background and history of this historical place.
And don't forget to visit the bookstore next to the trains 👍🏾😁❤

We enjoy our visit here and explore the history of Garrett County. Its amazing how they restored the building after 1884. The place is worth to check out and learn more historical events in the town.

We live visiting the old depot museum, too bad they weren't open to the public. However, the B&O 2-8-0 steam engine is a nice addition and the depot is very picturesque, right next door to the re-created Oakland Hotel.

Lovely little museum! Great for history and train lovers alike! Went with my family and enjoyed the older gentleman who walked us through and gave us the great history and impact of trains for the town. There is also a great gift shop for the most reasonably priced hoodies for visitors compared to virtually all other tourist spots around! Nice trains outside for fun pictures, and the historians really know their stuff!
Edit: I forgot to mention it was completely free!
