Great Place to Visit , Cool vintage train nice walk path , cool historian dude , Fishing , picnic tables

Hidden in an industrial area, privately maintained by volunteers. Fishing, cookout areas, fire pits and more. There's even a vintage train caboose. Nature trails, hiking paths along the water, rare and endangered wild plants, herons - so much to do and see! Note that every GPS I have used puts you on the wrong side of the river. The entrance is at Leon Cook Dr. and River Road.

Awesome hidden nature preserve with an original Santa Fe Railroad caboose turned into a self sustaining living quarter and museum. The volunteers running it are super friendly and will explain everything about the caboose and the railroad items around the premises and their history. There is also a marsh lookout deck and access to the river bank. At the river bank there’s a fire pit a picnic bench and a stationary grill. Kids will love the place as theres allot of stuff they can touch. On a nice day I suggest getting there early to snag the awesome picnic spot 😉

I have been coming to this place year-round as a volunteer for six years, and it is indeed a lovely place with very friendly people. Just clean up after yourselves!

Well cared for, with a variety of wildlife. Snakes mating, turtles and birds. Water so clear. A few places to have a picnic, with tables.

It really is a hidden gem. Don, a volunteer on site, was very welcoming, let us in the caboose and told us about the prairie and river.
