This is the best train shop in the State of Wisconsin. The store is neat well stocked and the staff is top notch going above and beyond every time I have had the pleasure of visiting. Unlike other train stores that look like crowded attics or basement this store is clearly above the competition. This is the only train store I will patronize. You will not be disappointed.

Cool train store, with a nice supply of O-scale trains: Lionel, Atlas, and MTH. The people working were really friendly. I will definitely stop in again the next time I am in town.

Mr. Sommerfeld is very knowledgeable. I bought a used train set, so he tested the engine for me. When it sounded like it was grinding a gear, he swapped the engine out for no extra charge. Highly recommended for model railroading needs.

Just stopped in to get my brother a Christmas gift and I had a great time. Jack was incredibly helpful with all of my questions, he took time to make sure we found everything we were looking for as always. Great selection, good prices. Will stop again.

Matt at Sommerfeld's Trains responded to my online inquiry about a Lionel product project -- to add wireless control and sounds to an older Lionel conventional locomotive (8004 "General" RI&P steam loco). He offered several ways to do it, and we ultimately decided to acquire a new PRR "General" locomotive with LionChief and Bluetooth technology on board -- then swap the PRR body and tender shells for the "old" RI&P body and tender shells.

Presto Chango! I now have a RI&P 1880s-style loco that bears my favorite road name with modern technology inside - done at a reasonable price for the "brain transplant." The inaugural run on my layout was a total success. Perfect! With appreciation to Matt.

As a life-long enthusiast, I can say that Sommerfeld's is the best store for model railroading! They have a great staff, who is very friendly and helpful, don't coerce you to make a purchase. Their prices are fair and/or lower than what you would find online, and they try to give you a fair deal when you trade/sell. They specialize in O-Scale, but do have sections for HO, N, and G (not too sure about other scales), and will do their best to assist you. Nice and clean for a hobby store, and great customer service!.

If you are looking for Lionel and other 3-rail trains, you need to stop in. They have a large selection of new and used merchandise, plus in my experience, great customer service. Sommerfeld’s sells other scales and brands as well. They also repair select model trains.

Best train shop this side of the Mississippi these guys know there stuff if you need any repairs place to go to . Also Matt is a wizard at fixing anything G scale related. Alot of product and knowledge

The people who run this place are the best. And they do give u the best service. We took are 100 yr old train in and he fixed put the right wheels on and did some other things to it. I will go back.

I love this place, great staff, merchandise, and atmosphere. This place is so fun to visit sometimes I go there just to socialize (but I never leave without something following me home). If you are new to the model railroading hobby this is the store you will want to visit first.

I quite lost my mind when I walked in. Did not know were to start. So much to look at.
Very knowledgeable person Working there. Place is just stuffed with new, old. Used, nos. Just a jem of a place for model train people.

One of my favorite places to visit while visiting my in-laws in the Milwaukee area is Sommerfeld’s Trains & Hobbies. Located along the main drag in Butler, WI (a couple of blocks UP’s ex-C&NW yard by the same name), this store focuses on O gauge trains and has an extensive collection of new and used engines and cars, along with a whole variety of accessories and other details for the avid hobbyist.

What I really love is this is one of the only places to still maintain a good selection of current-run product in stock - I honestly don’t know how they do it. The good news for me is there is always plenty to look at on my roughly annual visits. The good news for them is I never leave empty-handed.

The other nice aspect to this store is the friendly and helpful staff. There are no cranky types working at this store that I can tell! I have observed them in action and am convinced they are genuinely as eager to help a 12-year old with a decision on a used freight car as they are to help someone with a large purchase involving multiple engines.

My in-laws are gone now and with them my reasons to make the annual trek from Memphis to Milwaukee. But Sommerfeld’s is a good enough reason for me to continue to find an occasional reason to visit the area. I highly recommend Sommerfeld’s and encourage anyone visiting the Milwaukee area to make a stop at this shop a priority. If you are there around lunchtime, there is a local greasy spoon café a few doors down called “Delta Restaurant.” I recommend them as well, especially their Chicken & Dumplings. Shop and eat, or eat and shop – it’s all good!
