We were looking for a new cat or kitten as our beloved 18 year Lexi passed away. We came in to visit 2 cats and determined neither would work with our resident cat. NAWS was patient and honest about the 2 cats and felt they would not work with our cat due to their personalities. I appreciated that very much as they could have pushed them off to us without batting an eye. I then came in to meet Bugs who was the perfect 8 month old kitten. A day after I had her home I got really congested etc and thought I was allergic to her! They recommended a special diet to cut down on the allergic reaction. I ordered the food and like magic, a few weeks later, all good. Thank you NAWS for working with us. We love Bugs and she is an absolute joy!!

NAWS has been AMAZING to work with. I was a first time dog owner so was nervous about adopting a dog myself. I was interested in Charlie (found him on Petfinder) and went to the NAWS website to fill out an application / inquiry. I was contacted a few days later to see if I would like to come in to meet Charlie.

When I met Charlie, I was still a little nervous (again first time dog owner). Tim, the director at NAWS, was great and said he could do a home visit with Charlie to see if he would be good in my place. A few days later, Tim made the trip out with Charlie to see if he would like my apartment (stairs, noise, see if he was nervous). Charlie did great and I went in the next day to officially adopt him! The home visit really helped ease my nerves and I appreciated Tim taking that extra step.

Once home, Lina from NAWS reached out to me (via email) with first owner tips, some helpful links, and general advice. She was wonderful help during the first few days when I was nervous and wanting to make sure Charlie was adjusting well. She was (and still is) very responsive if I have any questions, suggestions, etc.

I have had Charlie now for three weeks and couldn't be happier! NAWS was fantastic to work with and their work is much needed! So happy I was able to make a safe home for a pup in need.

I would suggest working with them if you are looking for a furry lovebug 100%!

We adopted Sunflower, now named Tina, from NAWS in January! The workers were so informative and so unbelievably kind with the whole process. They truly made me so comfortable. They helped me with the whole process of having Tina meet our other cat as well. Its been almost 2 months and they love each other! She was the best addition to our family. Couldn’t be more thankful for NAWS

Great setup for the animals. Plenty of workers/volunteers (?). Everyone was very nice & helpful when I brought in a kitten I found. Awesome that their medical clinic is the store next door. Here’s the kitten I found, Strudel - he should be available soon; great, chill, cuddly cat.

When we saw Sauce, now Levi, on Petfinder, we just had to meet him. After filling out an application we came to meet him and instantly fell in love. Next we did a meet and greet with our husky and as soon as we saw them play together, we knew he would be the perfect addition to our family. After adopting, they have kept in contact and assisted with an unexpected hernia surgery that was needed. They offer discounted prices at their vet clinic for animals that have been adopted through them.
NAWS adoption process may seem more extensive then most rescues, but the process truly benefits the animals and ensures people don’t impulse buy.

If I could give more than 5 stars I would. I volunteered and fostered (then foster failed) through NAWS. I cannot say enough good things about NAWS.

The volunteers are all so dedicated and work incredibly hard alongside employees to best care for the animals. Volunteer training by Julianne was comprehensive and set me up to be confident in assisting with cat care. Any questions or concerns I had were always addressed quickly and helpfully. Policies were communicated clearly to ensure all cats stay healthy, safe, and happy.

I already had one cat I had adopted through a different shelter, but I knew I would want to foster and potentially foster fail if my cat would get along with another cat. Delonda and Ashley were incredibly helpful and supportive of my decision to foster Kepner.

Kepner had been previously adopted out when she was a few months old. Kepner was then found abandoned at animal control when she was two years old. I am SO glad that NAWS took Kepner back as soon as they learned she was at animal control. NAWS truly cares about ensuring that their cat alums are always safe, cared for, and work to get them a home if it doesn’t work out elsewhere.

Adopting Kepner was so easy and fast. Volunteering and fostering allowed me to find the perfect cat who is the best buddy to Maze now. I would highly recommend fostering and/or volunteering at NAWS to find your next family member!

Then, in October my mom and I trapped a Mama cat and her six kittens. NAWS has feral cat traps for rent for $55 dollars ($50 are later refunded as long as you return the trap). That trap was instrumental in catching the last kitten. Fran, Delonda, and Ashley’s help and advice has been incredibly helpful, kind, and necessary for socializing the kittens and Mama.

You could not find a better place to adopt from, foster through, or volunteer at even in your dreams. Plus, Becca’s social media posts for NAWS on instagram and TikTok are the best I have ever seen.

We adopted Clark (formally Omelete) from NAWS in May, he was a sick boy (Parvo) during his stay with NAWS, but thanks to them never giving up on him & literally nursing him back to perfect health, we were able to adopt him after 5 weeks of him being at NAWS! Please reach out to NAWS for your next dog or cat to love. They will work with your needs & find a perfect match for you & your family. 🐶❤ 🐱

NAWS was wonderful to work with. Their staff and volunteers worked with us very efficiently and effectively and matched us up with a sweet dog who is perfect for our home. Their facility was clean and organized and everyone was friendly. There are so many animals in need of a loving forever home and we’re grateful for all the hard work this committed organization does. Highly, highly recommend!

There are no adequate words for the amazing treatment we got from Naws for our little kitty Kevin. The care and attention he received was unparalleled, even when compared to fancy places in the northshore. You see at Naws they care about the animals. 100% of the proceeds goes back into helping them find homes, healthcare, and resources those high end places charge an arm and a leg for. The treatment Kevin received, the loving Volunteers, Cam especially is something I will never forget. Thank you Naws for everything you did for our Kevin. Support Naws in anyway that you can, you won’t regret it.

NAWS is truly one of the best shelters. We adopted three kittens from them and were so happy with the entire process. NAWS doesn’t just accept cats that are considered easily adoptable, they truly care about all animals and want to save as many as possible. They are also there to help match you with the right pet and to support you with any questions or issues you have. We were so impressed by them that we decided to foster for NAWS as well. Choosing NAWS has been one of the best things we could have done. I definitely recommend to everyone!!!

We applied for a different dog and that dog had just been adopted so the people at Naws found a similiar dog for our family. They did such a great job! We love Luigi.

We went straight to NAWS when we wanted to adopt a cat because of the great experiences we had heard about them from friends. It was so easy and the staff was so helpful. You can tell they love all of the animals. If you are thinking of getting a cat or dog, please consider adopting one that needs a home from NAWS! We love Ellie (aka Sour Apple) so much!

NAWS does so much for their animals and the community in general. I can not say enough positive things about this amazing organization. My son has gained so many life skills being able to volunteer here. We have fostered cats through NAWS and the process and support were superb. We have also adopted our cat, Luca, through NAWS. It was such an easy and supportive process. If you are considering adopting a cat or dog, NAWS is the place to go. Their staff and the volunteers who make this incredible shelter stay open in order to keep animals alive are miracle workers. They will help you through the entire process in order to match the best animal with you and your family.

We have always had a fantastic experience with NAWS. After a not great experience at a nearby shelter we turned to NAWS to get a buddy for our cat at home. They have been wonderful since! The on-site vet services are wonderful. My kiddos did a give back birthday this year, asking for donations for the animals so they could do their part to help out. We love having NAWS in our community.

NAWS is such a fantastic organization and I am so happy to be a part of it. They make fostering a very easy process and are incredibly supportive throughout the whole journey, and make sure you’re matched with a dog that fits your home/lifestyle. Foster families are provided with everything they could possibly need for their foster pets, from food, to vet visits, and more. The adoption process is smooth and ensures a great fit for the foster pet. Each and every animal at NAWS is so loved and cared for, the staff are amazing, and it’s a great place to get involved. Looking forward to our next one! 😊

This is probably one of the better veterinarians in the area. The desk staff is very kind and understanding. Fairly easy to get an appointment. Its usually not the same veterinarian that I see every time. Experiences with the actual vet vary as I think their a bit understaffed and maybe a little jaded by the cruel world we live in-- so I can forgive the not always most friendly demeanor. What matters to me is how they treated my dog, and they were very kind and gentle with my old lady dog. Highly recommend and will be back in the very near future.

We worked with Lina and Veronica from NAWS to facilitate our adoption of “Sleepy” on 10/1/2023. They were responsive to our questions, the adoption application was simple and it’s clear they care about the animals they rescue and care for. I would recommend NAWS to any family looking to adopt a new member of their family. Sleepy, now “Kima” is enjoying her new home and we are so grateful she was given a chance through NAWS.

I want to apologize to NAWS regarding my CAT adoption… I unfortunately adopted the best CAT they had in their facility, he has been soo well behaved, great with the kids, loves attention, hugs and his new family. I could tie this cat into a knot and he wouldn’t care. He’s been awesomely awesome. Staff was great and the process was quick.

I am a volunteer and a foster mom and adopted a cat last year from NAWS. NAWS is made up of an army of mostly volunteers (and a few paid staff). NAWS works tirelessly on behalf of homeless animals. No cat or dog is too old, too young or too sick to be taken in by NAWS and found a new home. Our NAWS cat, Little Mew, came to us a year ago. She was 11 years old and had many of her teeth removed and an ear canal removed due to a malignant tumor in it. She had been in the care of NAWS for a year, and fundraising was needed to fund her two surgeries. Mew is a living example of how NAWS does not give up on the harder cases.

As a volunteer and foster, I see daily how well the dogs and cats are treated at NAWS. Many are being loved in foster homes, and even the animals at the facility receive daily care, attention and love from staff and volunteers. As a foster, I invest countless hours and funds to care for my foster cats. We have over 400 foster families doing the same for their fosters.

Great team of people who will go the extra mile to help those animals in need! As a first time pet owner, they made the process easy and I am incredibly grateful for the newest members of our family! Highly recommend and don’t be afraid to call, visit or ask any questions as someone will be there to help.
