Lovely hotel with spacious grounds. It was fun to step into an era of history that boasted elegance and charm.
The main building has a large porch with comfortable seating and I wished for sunshine so I could enjoy it fully!
Our room was very clean and comfortable and had a massive tub with jets! The shower was very nice too.
It felt like a little studio apartment with a cozy fire place, built in cabinets and french doors that led onto a private porch and grassy center lawn.
The grounds are only a few moments walk to the lake and the magnificent homes that line the private street before it. Perfect location.
Beds were very comfortable.
Breakfast in the elegant main hotel was also very nice and in the warm months outside seating on a terrace is provided.
My only critique was the leanness of the walls because we could easily hear guests voices, TV and an alarm in the room next door. Also, it is not possible to completely darken the room from the sidewalk lamps outside, so bring eye and ear covering if that's not your thing.
We loved our stay and hope we will have the opportunity to visit this hidden gem again!!

Our experience at Colonial Inn was better than expected and was one of the most memorable hospitality experiences I've had in awhile! I was traveling to the area to visit a relative in Harbor Springs, and stayed at the Inn with 2 small children (2 years old and 6 months). It was out first time travelling with such small children and Sarah (said she typically was behind the scenes in a reservation role, but was at the front desk throughout our stay) not only made us feel welcome, but like we were long time friends or family coming to stay. We loved the quiet, low key neighborhood, taking a walk to the beach, the pool, and the beautiful renovations inside the Inn. Though everything was nice and very well maintained, it still felt child friendly. The full breakfast each morning was such a surprise and a great value. Also to note, we had so many wonderful conversations with guest throughout our two day who were return guests to the Inn. It attracts such a kind crowd, and we appreciated the neighborly feel of people offering to hold doors open or help me carry bags to and from the car. The rooms are on the smaller side (we'd recommend room 3 for traveling with more than 2 adults) but comfortable, so clean, and very cool during (we were there when it was 95 degrees and the AC was great). We decided to make this a place we return to for a family vacation next year, and really feel like we found a hidden gem with Colonial Inn!

Beautiful rooms and grounds. Exceptionally clean. Friendly staff. Very nice variety of hot and continental breakfast options included in the price of the room. Our family of 4 stayed in a room with 1 king and 1 queen bed. We had a balcony. It was spacious, with lots of storage in a good sized changing room outside the bathroom. The closet was big. A pocket door provided privacy between the sleeping area and changing area. Outdoor pool wasn't heated and it was too cold to swim, but the hot tub was indoors and very pleasant. Would absolutely stay again. This little place is a gem.

A beautiful location, maybe 300 feet from Little Traverse Bay.
If you ever want to write a book, this is the location for you!

The staff was outrageously friendly. The morning breakfast hit the spot.

Beautiful hotel and great location. No lift! Good breakfast and service. Very clean rooms. But strong audibility. I couldn't sleep because I heard every step outside the wall. They offer earplugs.

What a wonderful place to stay. Our travel soccer team stayed there over the weekend. The staff were amazing considering having 16 boys running around. Staff even had breakfast ready for our team before serving time because of an early game. Rooms had plenty of space and can't beat being right next to the water.

I can't say enough good things about the Colonial Inn. I HIGHLY recommend it. We recently stayed two nights here. The staff are wonderful, the room was clean and all the beautiful photos on their Website is exactly how it looks. One block away is their pier with a gorgeous view of the bay. It's close to the marina and downtown and all the area attractions. The wonderful breakfasts, in-room jaccuzi, fireplace and balcony were the icing on the cake. Thank you so much for making our birthday getaway unforgettable. We will be back! ❤

This hotel exceeded our expectations. Room 41 is spacious, bright and cheery, and spotless. It sports a fairly large bathroom with a Jacuzzi. The water here is very clean and tastes great, and the water pressure is very good. The only issue we noticed is that it takes a while for the water to heat, probably because the water heater is some distance from this room. We do not have a deck as some of the other rooms do and next time we'll reserve a room with one. Staff were helpful and friendly. Breakfast is included with the room and is adequate. We took scrambled eggs, sausage patties, fruit and yogurt from the buffet. We've had better breakfasts but many that were not nearly as good. Because of the climate here, the is no central air conditioning. The rooms, at least in this building, have small air conditioners in the walls. We are here on September 16 and 17, 2017, which have been the hottest days of the year and the air conditioner is keeping the room comfortable. The hotel is close to the waterfront and also within comfortable walking distance of downtown Harbor Springs. If we return (and we hope to do so), we will definitely stay at the Colonial Inn.

Our two night stay was fantastic! Perfect “up north” getaway. The hotel is very well maintained and clean. Rooms are spacious and well lit. The hotel is within a 3 minute driving distance to downtown harbor springs and walking distance to the lake. We are definitely coming back! If you are expecting the ritz Carlton then go to Florida! This hotel was the essence of what a northern Michigan hotel should be!

Perfect little place to stay, in such a beautiful location. Although you can’t see the lake from the rooms your still close enough to walk a couple blocks and enjoy the scenery of such a great town. Perfect size rooms, super clean, such a cool property. The best hotel breakfast around and you can enjoy it while eating in the perfectly quaint outdoor seating area. Being there made me feel as if it were 50 years ago. Will definitely be back.

We loved the quaint charm of the Colonial Inn in Harbor Springs, MI. It is so cheery! We stayed in room #8 which had a large room with a king & queen-sized beds. Our room had a fireplace & refrigerator (no microwave). There is a nearby pool with lots of seating & small gym area. An outdoor grill is available. The dining room is in the main building with seating inside & outside. The breakfast was delicious with many items. You won't leave hungry! Everyone was helpful & very friendly. We love the lakeshore town & would definitely return to the Colonial Inn.

Had a fantastic experience at the Colonial Inn the front desk and staff were the nicest people ever and the room we booked last minute was large, super clean, and very very beautiful. The neighborhood was gorgeous to walk around and the pool and hot tub here are amazing. I would definitely stay here again especially being so close to downtown Petosky (15 minutes) for much cheaper.

The Manager was extremely helpful and accommodating after Expedia screwed up our reservation. Colonial Inn compensated for Expedias problem by providing us a room for 1 night (we were supposed to stay 3) and then got us a room at another hotel nearby. True “old fashioned “ customer service. We will be back! However we are never using Expedia again!
