City Diner

Food was excellent and we were lucky enough that they were open on Christmas Day. Service was excellent. Our waiter was attentive and our food came out surprisingly fast. We only ordered breakfast which, imo, is difficult to screw up. Still, all was delicious. As for atmosphere, well, it's a diner.

Visited City Diner for meals of breakfast and lunch. The atmosphere was wonderful. Service was excellent and our server, Arlene, was very attentive. Everyone in my party had meals that were delicious with sizable portions. Will be going back again when visting downtown Jersey City. 😋

I’m officially declaring this place the best breakfast in JC. The chef must be psychic too. We no sooner placed our order and the food was on its way to our table. And it was utterly delicious. Every bit of it. All the employees were scrambling around working intensely hard to take care of the diners. 4 thumbs up!

We had early breakfast there before heading to the city. Great location, good service, good food and good value. We go to Diners quite often as most of them have decent food. This one is certainly outstanding

Chocolate chip pancakes & vegetarian omelette were both great! We walked in at 1pm on Saturday and got seating immediately. Decent brunch spot.

My boyfriend and I were in complete agreeable that this was the best breakfast we’ve ever had.

I don’t even know where to start. We were promptly greeted, seated, and attended to.

I ordered the French toast, scrambled eggs, and pastrami. My boyfriend ordered the Belgian waffle, scrambled eggs, Italian sausage, and Canadian bacon.

Everything was perfect.

The “2” eggs seemed more like 4 eggs, and the pastrami was perfectly cooked and plentiful. The Belgian waffle was slightly crispy and sweet, but not too sweet. The French toast were MUCH larger than expected and tasted more akin to cinnamon toast. While the French toast was different from any that I’ve had, it was still good.

We have virtually no complaints about this place. Everything was delicious and the portions were more than we asked for, in a good way.

Also, the fact that it’s only an 8min walk from our hotel is a plus.

If you come to City Diner for anything, make sure it’s the breakfast. 10/10, highly recommended.

🤗Ahhhh, City Diner... the ambience, the food, the generous serving, economically priced, the convenient location, and the staff...💯🙌🏽 I have not ordered any alcoholic drinks, not my thing. But did I mention how much I enjoy their food??? Well 👍🏽 it has been a most enjoyable tasteful visit each time. 💁🏽‍♀Everyone who I bought with me on each visit left satisfied and fulfilled😉. Never disappointed. Seasoned great, and tastes waaaaay better than most so-called expensive "bougie" JC locations, undisputed. Will definitely return.

Words can't describe how much I loved the food and the restaurant as a whole! From the moment we walked in the staff welcomed us and sat us fast! The food came out fast and was delicious! 10/10 do recommend!!

High quality food at reasonable prices makes this a great choice if you are staying in the area. Great for family dining but also has very creative top end cocktails. Breakfast is served all day and has a wide variety of generous portions. Corned beef hash was definitely homemade and a real standout. Strawberry banana waffles were crispy on the outside and fluffy and soft inside. Home fries were delicious and not at all salty. Turkey bacon was high quality and cooked perfectly. At dinner, fries and chips were house made and excellent, not greasy or too salty. Cobb salad was made with extremely fresh vegetables and good for sharing. Blackened chicken quesadilla was perfectly seasoned and flavorful. Service was friendly and attentive. Upbeat but not too obtrusive background music. I can't think of anything I would change and will definitely be back.

Visited City Diner on a Saturday. Only had about a 10 min wait time. The food is so good! High quality food for a good price. The service is outstanding! Pancakes and Omelets are excellent!

First, let me share that I AM NOT a Diner guy, BUT this Experience was Great!
First time there to meet up with a good friend I hadn't seen in 40 years. It was her suggestion so I (reluctantly) agreed.
The Atmosphere was Wonderful along with the Food! What capped it off was the OUTSTANDING SERVICE! Our server, Matthew (buff, wears glasses) was VERY Professional, Personable, and Courteous! He made recommendations and just helped to make for a Great Experience!

Classic North Jersey Greek diner. What's not to love? Tasty food, huge portions, affordable and fast service.

Got the crab cake Benedict and it was SO delicious! Service is very attentive and the overall experience is worth the 5 stars!

We got into the city late, but they welcomed us in as they were closing it down on a Friday night. The service was amazing and we loved everything we ordered! If you're staying in Jersey City and want some amazing food, hit this Diner up! For our first Diner experience out of the south, I'll expect all Diners, even the southern ones to step it up. 20 out of 10! Looking forward to our next trip!

Solid Dinner. Definitely the best one in this area. Great quality dinner food and wide selection. Service was quick and friendly. Price wasn’t terrible either. The little details in this place make it extra special. Will definitely come back.

Some of the best corned beef hash, but this is North Jersey and that’s a given. Fun, warm atmosphere with lots of creative menu choices! A prime spot for brunch with all the classic brunch cocktails. Our server was friendly and attentive. The food came out fast and hot. We were there around 9:30 am and it was busy but we were seated immediately. The cheesy grits were made with Monterey Jack cheese and delicious! The eggs were cooked perfectly. If I had a bigger appetite, I would have ordered the chicken and waffles as they looked delicious! The potion size was the only thing that kept me from ordering. I would definitely recommend this to anyone visiting Jersey City!

Great place. Nice atmosphere and great staff. Food was amazing with the exception of the chicken tenders. The breading was flavorless and over fried. Service was quick for a Tuesday, lunch date with the kids. Best of luck looking for free parking. Moderate prices. I shall return!

Chicken and eggs with home fries and toast for just $9.99! The Florentine egg Benedict is delicious. Totally worth it! Will come back soon.
Went back a few days later and ordered the crab cake breakfast and it was delicious! All day breakfast, had breakfast for dinner and it was really satisfying. Fast service and attentive waitstaff. Still can’t believe a good and filing mela for two is just $30 for a location near the waterfront and the path station. I can see why it’s one of the local’s favorite restaurants.
Update: It’s been one of my favorite local restaurants now after been dining here about five time in two months.

Incredible food. Isn’t cheap but it’s worth it. Great service as well. They were packed and got to us quickly.
