Oak Park

I’m not a local but I’ve spent a lot of time in Wausau .. not sure if this general area is referred to as Oak Park, Oak Island or Isle of Ferns …

Nevertheless this park complex is awesome! There is a trailhead and boat landing, plenty of parking to launch your adventures.

The quaint bridge goes over to the island where there are picnic areas, hiking trails and benches that are perfect for a vibe check any time of the day or year

The trail system continues for miles and includes Whitewater park and more. This riverside trail is great for walking or biking, and goes past the farmers market during the summer

Overall a great site to explore

This is a really fun playground that my kids always enjoy going to. It’s good for a variety of ages, but everything is close enough together that it’s easy to keep an eye on everyone. My one complaint is that the bathrooms are pretty far away from the playground, closer to the tennis courts. We like to park and ride bikes along the river, and then eat a picnic at this playground and let the kids play. It’s also a fun place to scooter because they have a little skate park area.

Plenty of parking. Have to walk by tennis courts for the restrooms the kind of dirty. The playground itself is really nice had a lot of different things for the kids to play on. Really nice being right next to the river.

Beautiful park, birds, the view of the river, (especially at sunset), picnic tables, grills etc., Walking trails, the new playground where the kids & adults too can have a blast playing on the new equipment, it's awesome. There's also a smaller skate park (skateboards, rollerblades, whatever) area too. Everything is really quite lovely. There's also a fenced in tennis court. On the other side is a pretty bridge, that leads you to the trails, there's also the boat ramp, where you can take your boats out or kayaks, or tubes if you want. The park is huge.
The only negatives that I can take think of is is when the mosquitos come out to play too. LOL and the location of the restrooms. The park is large though too add an additional bathroom, or at the very least a couple of potable potties. Just a suggestion.

The new playground is great for 5-12 yr olds... or even a 1 and 3yr old in the rain! Lots of serious climbing for older kids. Extra soft layered, rubber turf. And 4 swings. The orange fencing is just to protect the new grass around the park. It's only temporary.

this is a great park. I love coming to this park.

It floods alot so plan for a day where it has been sunny for the past couple days so the trails on fern island are dry. Also has a skatepark.

Beautiful park along the river with everything for the entire family to enjoy.

Great trails and Park activities and environment for the whole family

Very enjoyable stroll along the river. Especially enjoyed watching the kayakers.

Enjoyable place for a walk with a friend, along the water to downtown. Or to enjoy the view on your lunch break.

Take my dog here twice a week off lease on the island. Has a trail that goes around the island. Caught my first small bass pretty good size about 12 in. Trails by the island that will take u towards farmers market and downtown and to the park nearby . Has a boat ramp to launch off boats n kayaks. Trails on the island that lead to open areas in the water so u can swim n brings kids to wet there feet pretty shallow in certain areas. Love this spot close to downtown but at the moment there is road closures due to construction

Daughter had baby shower here in the shelter, very nice setting, may want to offer shuttle service to the restrooms they are kinda far away.

Great place to visit with a toddler!

I love riding around the trails on fern Island. Just take the foot bridge from oak island to fern. Oak island has a small skatepark and alot of fishing spots. There is a newly built playground. Great for family events!

Sidewalks clear, few people walking Tuesday around 11am, we did close to 5 miles taking all side paths. Great walk!!

Oak island has a wonderful walking trail along the Wis. river, which meanders through the Wausau area. There are also a children's playground, picnic shelter's, baseball diamond, boat landing, and bridge to get to Fern island. Great park within walking distance of downtown Wausau.

Great park on the river. Always an active place on a nice day. Many places to sit, walk, and bike. Boat launch. Dog park nearby.
