Lovely park with some of the best WW features in the country. I hadn’t been back in ~ 10 years, and they’ve made some nice additions to the park and the river. The new riverfront walking path is particularly nice. Love that there are lessons and lots of new boaters taking part in the fun.

My only quibble would be that almost all of the river features are holes, albeit of various intensities, rather than a mix of holes and green waves. I think adding green waves would be nice bc they are fun with longer boats, and also more user friendly for beginners while they learn boat control and surfing.

Had a fun time here exploring the River front and dipping my feet. Part of the River walk and the rapids are exciting to see. It would be fun to come back here for some kayaking or even as a spectator. This is a really good use of the area, wish we had something like this in EC! Will be back

Such a cool local gem, even if you're not interested in whitewater rafting it's just a peaceful place to sit by the water. The amphitheatre has plenty of seating, and anyone working at any event there has always been courteous and helpful.

This is a world Class park that is well known for its competitions. The park is also known for providing resources for instruction. If you are any kind of fan of paddle sports, this is a great place to check out.

The best time ever! This picture doesn't do it any justice. We went for whitewater kayaking lessons. 2.5 hours and learned that we really didn't know anything about white water kayaking. We are avid kayakers but this was challenging. The teachers teach to the level that you are. Even if you don't want to try this (which you should), there is plenty of beautiful seating on the water to watch those that know how to do this. You need to go there.

Even though the water is low, this venue is excellent for nature lovers. Plenty of wildlife, peaceful water runs and a well maintained walking trail.

Nice little place to walk around around or even go kayaking or canoeing if the dam is open with many places to launch your boat as well as random events with different clubs down there, also there is a nice path that goes up the river quite a ways with a place to grab ice cream upstream from there and multiple spots to rest and enjoy the sights along the riverfront there is also a farmer's market on Wednesdays and Saturdays long this route and a few sculptures near by including a peice one near the road, a large steel one upstream a bit, and near the farmer's market area a little memorial for people from a industrial accident in 94, and being near downtown it's worth a look if you're in the area and want to stretch your legs a bit

The Wausau Whitewater park is an outstanding chance to hone your skills when the local, natural runs are too tame. Be sure to check the website to verify dates the recreational releases. There are at least a couple of weekends during the summer that are reserved for disabled veterans (really an amazing event - how often do you see paddlers who are blind or that require adaptive kayaks? Awesome!) and a competitive event, but elsewise they usually do a release at least every other weekend. The course is a series of drops which scale from flat water (at the bottom) to a fun boof over the sluice gate from the reservoir (please see the best photo I have ever had taken of me). The rapids are a lot of fun and offer something for all but the most advanced paddlers. The total course is around 1/3 of a mile from top to bottom, so it is easily walkable with a kayak in tow. Though, if you plan on doing it repeatedly, you might want some transport or you might get a little worn out. All in all, it is a gem of a spot in a prototypical Midwestern town that is worth checking out. (Now, if you are planning on going over the dam and not very experienced, I *highly* recommend a full-face helmet. Simply trust me on this, please...) I hope to see you out there soon!

Definitely worth checking out if you are exploring downtown Wausau. Really cool to see when they have paddling events going on. My personal favorite is the freestyle kayaking events.

They opened the spillway for an open kayak event today. Got some good video and shots before my battery died. Going back when charged and do some more. When that spillway opens that river truly speeds up.

I am so fortunate to have this park within short walking distance from my house. Well designed kayak course and a long viewing area and trails along the water.
