This overlook gives a good view of the area the massacre took place. The information is helpful. There are benches and shade. I went in July. It is so hot. There were a lot of grasshoppers. Don't go if you can't handle them hopping on you. The walk around the site is easy.

Beautiful memorial area with information on what happened. Benches and tables to sit at. Wheelchair accessible. Very peaceful, even with the nearby road.

One of the worst tragedies against native people west of the Mississippi River happened here. A massacre of Shoshone men, women, elderly and children were slaughtered here by the US Army. Another story not told as much in the history books that needs to be remembered. Reports of 380 people were killed here, ive read where those numbers were a lot higher unfortunately. A very somber place, they have a decent memorial on top of the hill and there is another older one located down the hill by the road. I think Idaho needs to step their game up and make this whole area sacred ground. Close it at night, keep people from spinning donuts in the parking lot and the killing field def doesnt need to be harvesting hay off that field! Be respectful and dont take pictures of offerings left behind.

A good place to visit if you're passing by on highway 91. There are two place you can stop: (1) in the river bottoms there is a monument on the right side going north and (2) on the north side of the river just at the crest there are picnic tables, descriptions of the event and its background, and a beautiful view of the valley.

No bathrooms/facilities so recommend having bags for trash, water, and plan a restroom stop in Preston if you want to picnic.

A worthwhile stop to remember atrocities committed here so we don't make the same mistakes.
Make sure to stop by the road marker, as well as the small lot and trail up the road to the north.

Sad to see how badly the original settlers of this great place were so ruthlessly massacred. It's a humble reminder of how us white people stole such a valuable resource from such a wonderful people.
