El Mexiquense Wood Grill Cuisine

*** Foodies take note ***** El Mexiquense has a very broad range of menu offerings, beyond those typical of your average Mexican restaurant. Those that I have tried were wonderful. Their three salsas each have tremendous flavor and texture (not pureed). The staff, while not especially fluent in English, were very attentive. (This is, after all, an authentic Mexican restaurant) I would like to next bring several friends so that we can sample more items from the menu than the 1 or 2 that I typically order.

Love my waitress. Had the chance to share Horchata with one of the youth at my church for the first time and he enjoyed it. The beef in the tacos were premium and tasted very well seasoned. Whatever cut that was is simply delicious. The environment is what makes out of it. Ice cream right next door.

Absolutely love it. Food is very fresh and choices are very wide.
I stop by few times a week and didn't walk out this place disappointed yet.

Great to see them expanded. Good fast service, fresh warm chips and salsa included. Excellent decor, they now have enough room to throw some tables together to accommodate a larger party. The food is right on the money, got the torta norteña and the extra toppings they put on this is a great bang for your buck. Highly recommended, will be back to eventually try every thing on the menu.

I just found out that they have the best chicken fajitas in town!! Everything was very fresh. I'll definitely be back real soon.

Everything on the menu is incredible, I’m so excited to make my way through it. Sometimes the best things in life are super simple though, and the rice+egg+tortilla+salsa dish has been haunting my dreams for months. Just blindly point to something on the menu and order it, you won’t be disappointed.

Honestly some of the best authentic Mexican food in STL hands down. Amazing cabeza tacos, tortas, and amazingly hot, delicious salsas that are fresh- even pickled veggies when you dine in! Everything is good here! El Porton is my go to!

Food was very good. Street tacos were yummy. Server was good and she even helped our party order a few things. All of their sauces were good...hot, but very good.

We have eaten here numerous times. I have never had a bad or disappointing meal or service! The staff treats you like they want you to stay not like other places that want you to leave. The food is authentic, handmade fresh and with care. They never skimp on anything.
Well worth the drive from wherever you are. You won’t be sorry. You will eat and leave feeling good about your decision to try El Mexicanese.

This place is just around the corner from me and I eat lunch here at least 3 times a week. Authentic food, great staff, and be sure to check out the grocery store too. The carneceria has the best chorizo and make sure you get the tortillas from the bottom shelf.

I love this Mexican restaurant even though on the front it says that it's a store it's actually a restaurant and this is truly authentic Mexican food because when you go in you see pretty much all Mexican people eating there and that's always the best way to tell when authentic food is served there there's also things that they do not put on the menu so you have to ask specifically for things. Everytime we want a margarita we have to specifically ask for it because it's not on the menu so they do have Margaritas but you have to ask for things like drinks that have liquor in them because they really only have beer on the menu but their food is absolutely amazing. I highly recommend this place and don't be fooled by the fact that it says it's a Mexican grocery store on the outside I almost feel like they do that to deter Outsiders from coming in. But you should definitely go in and check out this place.

The restaurant is clean, the food is delicious and not too expensive. The service is great, they are attentive and fast. I ordered a steak torta (Mexican sandwich) and it came fully loaded with guac, no extra charge. Excellent hidden gem of a place.

They have amazing fondue and the salsa is fantastic. Highly recommend this place

I'm not gonna lie, this was the best Mexican restaurant I think I can remember eating at. I got the enchilada, other people in my group got the burrito, the fajitas, and the quesadilla, and they were all very, VERY good. Chips and salsa are offered as an appetizer and they had two different salsas, one of which was a jalapeño based salsa that was very hot but very good. The prices are very fair and they had a margarita special that we all partook in. Overall this was a very good experience and I will definitely be back. It's out of the way for me but it's so good it's worth it. It's hard to imagine going back to an El Maguey, or especially a Fuzzys (ugh), after eating here. Thanks!

What a hidden gem. Good food & sauces & the large margarita was enormous - so good. Staff friendly & efficient. Sopas are excellent. My family is hooked!
