If this shop is not run by Mr. Van de Velde, technical staff has changed, and they do warranty their work, then what follows may no longer apply. If it is, then please read my opinions and review.
Firstly, I am not a professional reviewer like the others on this site, but was an actual customer who had two frame-off restorations/builds with this shop from 2013 into mid 2017, the first being a 1969 Oldsmobile 442, and the second being a 1940 Ford Tudor Deluxe. The delivered cars looked very nice, and have received many compliments. However, my major disappointment, especially given the company's motto of "Done right the first time", has been that neither car worked properly when given to me to enjoy and drive, and I have since spent well over $12000 trying to get them to drive properly.
Problems with the Olds started with malfunctioning alternator and drained battery, followed next trip with a starter gear that didn't properly mesh with the flywheel ring gear, resulting in destroyed starter and ring gear (shop's tech told me that the starter was improperly shimmed), followed by tires that rubbed against rear wheel openings that had not been radiused sufficiently the first time to allow for the larger tires. Fixing these resulted in additional labor charges of $4340, parts of $895 and body shop of $300.
In September 2016 the summary statements had addition stating:
NOTE: ALL WORK ON A BEST EFFORTS BASIS-NO LABOR WARRANTY, which essentially meant that the shop no longer stands behind their work. So when my Ford was given to me in early 2017 to "drive and enjoy", when I tried to fill car with gas after leaving shop, I could only pump gas at lowest rate for short times - otherwise it spewed back out of the filler tube. Also, once driving, I noticed that the brake and clutch pedals interfered with one another, making it impossible to depress one without depressing the other. Plus the return spring on brake pedal was way too weak, resulting in brakes that stayed engaged until I got my foot under pedal and lifted it from floor. By the time I reached my driveway and I turned off motor, it would not start again. That turned out to be a heat soak issue caused by a dry vacuum pump that the shop installed to relieve excess crankcase pressure. Pump should have been a wet vacuum pump, and the dry one was clogged with oil and red hot after driving. Although the body work generally was very good, the paint on the hood of the Ford had some bubbling in it, and needed fixing. When I brought that up to the owner, Mr. Frank Van de Velde, his response was that his body shop man had retired, and he knew of no one else who could do the work, so too bad for me. Regarding all the other items that were not done correctly the first time and needed fixing, since there was no longer a warranty on the shop's work, I decided to end our relationship and took the car to a local repair shop that does warranty their work. Since that time I found out that my new transmission the shop installed had no fluid in it, plus the trans had been spot welded to the frame, since the bolt holes in crossmember didn't line up. So the repairs on this car continue to mount in effort to make it driveable.
So bottom line is, if you expect something to be done correctly the first time in a timely manner and close to estimated cost, you'd be better off taking your work somewhere else.
