This place is simply magical! My husband and I first stayed here on our mini-moon on our way south to Asheville and enjoyed it so much that, upon checkout, we booked another night for our return trip! We have since returned for two weekend-long stays, and booking a future stay has now become kind of a tradition (upon checking out last summer we booked a stay for our first anniversary in October, and upon checkout then we booked for our upcoming second anniversary!) The inn has a charm reminiscent of European inns and the bygone days of travel, lovingly updated to welcome today’s modern travelers, with several places to kickback and relax, including the wonderful, large front porch, beautiful rear patio and gardens, and the lovely Thistle Lounge, which also features an incredible cocktail bar! The restaurant is delicious, the staff friendly and attentive, and the rooms, many of which have been recently renovated, are comfortable and well-appointed with wonderful details and character (we enjoy staying in a new room each visit and our favorites so far have been the John Winthrow and Pearl S. Buck rooms). The location is perfect, making it easy to walk to the great restaurants and shops nearby. If you are looking for a wonderful getaway in a unexpectedly quaint & cool town, look no further!

The General Lewis Inn is just beyond beautiful and charming! We stayed at the Inn for a wedding, and the room was so lovely with such wonderful attention to detail. The wedding we attended was at the Inn and the location, food, and entire celebration was extraordinary. One of the most beautiful weddings I’ve ever been too.

Stayed at this charming inn since it was a halfway point back to our home in Ohio. Lovely room with antique decor and a comfy bed. Dinner in the dining room was fantastic! Our waitress was very kind. Enjoyed delicious cocktails with a fire out on the patio. All of the staff were wonderful from the host to the bartender! Will definitely be back sometime in the future.

My husband and I stayed here for our 36th anniversary. We enjoyed it very much. We very much plan on visiting again!
We had dinner and drinks in the lounge. We enjoyed the rain-soaked evening on the front porch! It was quite enjoyable!

We were told about this lovely historic inn by the folks at the visitor center. I’m so happy we stopped in as I intended to make a reservation at a larger chain since we unfamiliar with the area. I’m glad I did not!
I highly recommend staying here. Our room was charming, comfortable and CLEAN. The bed was comfortable. We both slept well! The bathrobes and slippers were a nice touch.
The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating, making us feel welcome.
The biscuits served at the continental breakfast are to die for! I’m not normally a biscuit eater, but I definitely made an exception this time.
Restaurants and shops are easy walking distance.
To sum up my stay, we felt pampered the two nights we stayed and if we are in the area in the future, we most definitely will stay again.

This review is for the dining room only. We were in the area and looking for a restaurant that really represented the atmosphere and charm of Lewisburg. Well this was definitely the place! It feels like you're stepping back in time as you enter this historic place. The food was amazing (I got local mountain trout) and so was our server, Lori. The atmosphere is moderately upscale. As in, jackets and dresses not "required", but certainly acceptable.

Lovely historic inn. Dinner on weekends is a real treat; the food quality is exceptional. Love the fresh biscuits with dinner. Geneous food portions, so this is not another expensive fancy restaurant where you leave hungry. The rooms are very comfortable and we slept very soundly. In the summer the garden in the back is very pretty and a great hangout. As usual, the West Virginians are friendly and excel at hospitality. This was our second trip to Lewisburg in 5 months.

We arrived for a spontaneous dinner date. We had outstanding service from every single person we encountered from the moment we walked inside. Though we do not drink alcoholic beverages, before we were seated in the dining hall, we enjoyed the bar tender and her incredible personality. We relaxed in a cozy corner, on the plush couch taking all the views of the environment and listening to chill vibe romantic music. On to the spectacular mouth watering food, it was simply just that, spectacular. Our server was extremely attentive, making our fine dining an excellent comfortable experience. The impeccable attention to every detail at the Inn and restaurant went noted and appreciated to create the most romantic ambient space. We will he back for many more meals to try, and thank you so much for providing us with special memorable experience we shared here♡

I've been going to the General Lewis for about 7 years. And each stay gets better (if that was even possible??). First of all the staff is one of the kindest and accommodating that i've encountered. The atmosphere is the perfect combination of high end and cozy. The back garden is inviting and having cocktails out there is one of my favorite things. Each room I've stayed in is fabulous. The amenities and products are clearly carefully chosen and luxurious. OH, and the beds are comfy. like, I don't wanna leave comfy. Like, some of my best sleep comfy. And the food and cocktails are simply mouthwatering. Each time I leave, I cant wait to go back.

Great for anything you need . Family , couples, weddings etc. Only knock is they quoted me one price where I put in 2 adults , there was no place to put my 12 yr old. Once I got there and checked out I had an extra 25 on my bill for my child. I am accustomed to paying extra for my dog but my child? She is very small so no way they knew her age either. She was one of the reasons I paid for the bigger room which is more than other rooms so I feel charged twice in that respect.

Elegant and stays true to the culture, spirit and history of Lewisburg. I felt that I was transported to the European country side with such luxury, and beautiful grounds. What made my stay so enjoyable was not necessarily one thing but like a great painting or dish, a combination of all the wonderful stuff that cumulated into an unforgettable time.

The staff is really prompt, professional and friendly. The rooms stay true to the character of the inn and I thought were very clean and comfortable. We didn’t stay in a recently renovated room which had no negative impact on our stay. I suggest getting drinks at their bar, or having cocktails and breakfast at outside on the patio.

Location is great and you can easily walk to all the attractions in town.

Overall, highly recommended.

The General Lewis Inn is very historic and dates back to 1834. It has luxury and fine dining all together in one place. It’s located very close to downtown Lewisburg which is very exciting to visit. The Carnegie Hall is also located about 8 blocks away. We were there for the 15th annual Chocolate Festival and really enjoyed our visiting experience. There are so many local areas to visit and enjoy along with gorgeous Mountain View’s.

We had a delicious dinner at the General Lewis Inn! Staff was so friendly and knowledgeable about the historic hotel! We ordered the braised pork shank and lamb chop and I had a Louisiana Cadillac dessert! Everything was amazing! Very generous portions, mashed potatoes and veggies with each entree as well as adorable individual biscuits in tiny cast iron skillets served with 2 different butters sprinkled with flake salt. Oh so good! Compliments to the wonderful staff, chef and pastry chef!!

Historic, cozy, charming, upscale, and just plain lovely. Stay here for a evening of great dinner (check for dining room nights), stroll a few blocks to Lewisburg, an artsy, funky, friendly town with unique shops to browse. Enjoy live performances at Greenbrier Valley Theater and Carnegie Hall, all in walking distance. Many restaurants to enjoy in town for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, too. Cocktails at the Inn are a MUST!

This beautiful boutique Hotel me for a lovely stay in Lewisburg. Each room different, very comfortable and a very helpful staff. My friends and I also enjoyed cocktails in the lounge before heading out for dinner. In the morning we were greeted with wonderful coffee and a delicious Continental breakfast. So good.

We had a wonderful time. It is a beautiful inn and the people were friendly. The location is great and it is easy to walk into town to visit the shops and other restaurants.
We did not select a refurbished room. If you have to have everything new, then select one of those rooms.
Being at the end (hopefully) of Covid, during the middle of the week and prior to peak season, the restaurant was not open, so we cannot speak to that.
Our non-refurbished room had a fairly random selection of furniture which were in good shape. The bathroom was small, but functional - typical of older inns. There is a nice courtyard out back for early evening seating. Parking is a little tight, but there seemed to be a few places left.
If you are a light sleeper, get a room facing away from the street.
My only complaint was that they ran out of the free morning coffee.

Dinner was wonderful.. The fried chicken unbelievably delicious! Trout was fresh and flavorful. Coconut cake dessert good but pricey for small thin slice. Had to request to waiter to turn pop music down.. Was extremely loud. Could of had a smooth jazz sound instead to add to atmosphere... Get the chicken...
