National Forest Lodge

My family of 4 (2 parents , 2 young adult children ) stayed for 2 nights late February 2016. We had an awesome time. We were greeted warmly by Andy , the owner, and he made our stay very enjoyable. He was a gracious friendly host. The facilities were as described - rustic classic Minnesota North Woods, very comfortable for our needs and wants. It was an excellent combination of privacy in our cabin with easy access to the enjoyable group experience in the lodge with eating and socializing. The ski trials were incredible, excellent grooming, easy access, great variety. The sauna, polar plunge and hot tub were invigorating and the snow shoe trails very enjoyable. Wish I had a fat bike to join the other bikers heading out this AM! My daughter said to me "you found your people" - others who love the outdoors and , love a camp / lodge type experience ! I don't think there is much else like the National Forest Lodge!

Our experience this past weekend was memorable. Great, nicely groomed XC trails, and plenty of separate trails for snowshoeing. Andy and his cook Augie do a great job, bending over backwards to make it a good experience. We happened to be there when >30 others were there; all were very nice. On Saturday, the Duluth musician got everyone dancing the conga line around the lodge. :) It also was our family's first polar plunge experience. Very positive weekend for us. Keep in mind that you'll have a short outside walk to the bathroom in the shower house; the rustic cabins are cozy, but don't have running water. :)

Wonderful cabin layout above the shoreline of a beautiful NE MN lake. Quiet, peaceful place situated just outside Minnesota's BWCA wilderness. Great birding all year and excellent XC skiing on a high altitude plateau (1,700 ft.) that receives snow almost daily throughout winter. Really butters up the trail. Owners are gracious hosts, clientele interesting, good food, and good live music on weekends during ski season. Fishing isn't bad either.

We have visited early in the winter season each of the last 5 years. We have never been disappointed in the hospitality . . .or the snow! This area is known for having some of the most consistent snow cover anywhere in the state. The accommodations are private, peaceful, and cozy, and Andy & Laura always provide top notch service! Thanks.

Fantastic experience this past weekend at the National Forest Lodge. True Minnesota North wilderness experience that is not for the J.W. Marriott Platinum member! Our log cabin was more than comfortable, provided all the amenities that we needed. The food was excellent in a camp style setting and provided the opportunity to meet many fellow outdoor explorers.

I found the XC trails to be some of the best I have skied and after 4 hours and over 15 miles the hot tub and sauna were perfect for soothing sore muscles.

We will be back for another winter adventure with Andy & team.

We stayed at the Superior Log Home Getaway. What an awesome lod home located in an area that is very private and peaceful. Our family enjoyed fishing, canoeing, campfires and time without electronics in the kids hands 24/7. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking to get away from it all. Perfect place to relax.

What a great place to spend weekends with friends! Our Meetup group has been to the NFL several times in recent years. We have enjoyed the lodge, food, XC Skiing, sauna, polar plunge, heated pool, Augie's cooking, and Andy's company! We are looking forward to our next visit!

Went up skiing and snow shoeing a few weeks ago and never had more fun in my life! It's so beautiful up there, and the owner and staff (and food) were great. Never thought I would, but I did it -- I took the polar plunge! Must have been the purity of the air or something?? I can't wait to find a chance to get back up there!!! Definitely will be doing it again!!!

What a treat to stay at the National Forest Lodge. Great meals, a weekend of cross country skiing in the pristine north woods, and time for the hot tub, sauna and polar plunge if you choose. We hope to make it a yearly event.

come here ever year with the kids via seirra club. Andy (the owner) is great. Classic x-country classic trails and snow shoe tails are gorgeously groomed.

Great place to spend a weekend skiing, snowshoeing, and fatbiking. The trails are top notch and the accomodations are wonderful. Highly recommend to anyone who likes to be outdoors

The beauty of the North woods and the hospitality of Andy and Lura can not be matched! The grooming is impeccable, the snow is always good, and the food that August and Michelle prepare is amazing😍😍
