Barrel Bar

A nice hopping place to eat! I stopped by for dinner one night and then lunch the next day. The grill is a small, well oiled machine, cranking out consistently good food. I tried the char cheeseburger and the chicken breast sandwiches. The staff was laidback and friendly during the busiest times of the day. Quiet enough to chat with some locals. Peaceful, family atmosphere. Good value and good food. For burgers and chips or steaks and baked, you won't get "burned" eating here.

Nice clean place. I had the grillled chicken with cottage cheese (have to watch my figure-ha). The chicken was so moist and tender. I forgot how refreshing cottage cheese is as well. We come to Hastings annually for the fast pitch mens softball tournaments, this is always a go to place.

Went here for lunch and had a good hamburger with chips. It wasn't greasy and if ya like potato salad there's is a must have. The lunch menu is small so it's easy to pick something out.

If you are in Hastings, you have to stop by and have one of their Famous Charburgers!

Yes, I give it five stars. I've been eating at the Barrel Bar, now under the third owner for over 40 years. Lunch, supper, char burger or drinks with friends. Find a seat and let the staff take it from there. The prices are in line with other restaurants/bar/grills Try the Bloody Mary with a Cheese Char burger chips and big slice of onion with a spear pickle. Wife and I shared one the other day.

Love the Barrel Bar. Great grilled food. The Stromer, an open faced chili cheese burger, is my favorite. Polish Stromer is my son's favorite and my husband loves their steak. Always love having a few drinks with our meal, great cold beer on tap. Service is friendly and quick. Old fashioned and classic atmosphere. Great home town feel.

The steak I had here is the reason I always eat in a Nebraska steakhouse when I am traveling there. Can't get anything close to this quality, size, flavor for double the price on the west coast. Quirky, very friendly local favorite. A must visit.

Food and service is always good. The beverages are served in glasses that are crystal clean. Been coming here on and off for forty years or more. I believe Jim has owned it throughout that entire stretch of history. 👍👍

Wow... Where do I start? The food was fantastic in a quaint place where the OG foodies go for a great meal!!! This is the epitome of a 90's steakhouse. Simple, but fresh lettuce salad (lettuce was spun) and a choice t-bone which cost less than most gormet hamburgers I've eaten recently. AMAZING!!!! This is a must stop for the steak lover in your travels!

I had an excellent dinner with my family here the other night. If you are ever in Hastings Nebraska, you must stop here. I had a lovely steak and salad. Just so you know, if you order a salad you will only get a bowl of lettuce and dressing. But it was still very good. Simple. And just another warning, they do not have a fryer so do not try and order fries or you will reveal the fact that you are forever town.
