When visiting Union City, definitely try this local Cuban restaurant with flavors that have remained the same over the years. Crispy and flavorful chicharon, palomilla, vaca frita, and dessert tres leches.

Nostalgic, for me, it's a trip back to days and times of my youth. Now, as an adult, I absolutely love and appreciate both the food and atmosphere. It's as if to me it were me stepping back in time. The smells, the taste of the food, and the prices are beyond ideal. I'd highly recommend this establishment if you want some traditional Cuban food at a great price.

Stopped by Union City landmark El Artesano for breakfast.
Liz ordered the Jamon, queso, Y chorizo omelette with a side of home fries.
I ordered the Cuban breakfast which contains two eggs overeasy on top of arroz moro with sweet plantains.
Our breakfast was so pleasing we decided on ordering to go some plain churros and filled ones. Also took home empanadas y tamales.
Thank you for a very pleasant morning!!!

Great place for quality inexpensive Cuban eats. Found this place on a whim while driving through the area. Municipal lot with meter parking behind and on street ($0.25/hr). Service was fast and the food was fresh. Entrees were a great price with just the right portion size, but definitely go for the sandwiches and empanadas! The waitress didn't speak much English to us but definitely understood everything we said. Would come back again if I'm in the area.

AMAZING. This is definitely a great restaurant if you're seeking good and inexpensive (and high quality) Cuban cuisine.

Sandro was our server. He's a quaint and endearing Cubano with impeccable customer service skills. He's pretty funny too! He joked I looked like LeBron James haha! He was super attentive and energetic! Definitely a star server and great man.

I had the skirt steak with rice and beans with tostones. The food was well seasoned and the portion sizes will leave you well satisfied but not too stuffed.

The environment was clean and restrooms well-kept. Their desserts are also great.

Overall you will not be disappointed if you're seeking great, "home-made" Cuban cuisine in a place that provides comfort and a peaceful dining experience.

My Airbnb host recommended this spot for coffee and food. They serve Columbian style dishes and coffee. I ordered a Cafe Con Leche, it was very good. I had some scrambled eggs with chorrizo, and I ordered some Churros Rellanos Dulce style to go.

The staff was friendly and very helpful even though I didn't speak spanish. The food was good and the coffee was great, but the churros stole the show for me!! They were perfect with just enough filling and not too sweet.

If you like local, this is the spot!!

The best authentic Cuban spot that lasted in this historical town. The service is the best as its a family owned restaurant that the locals enjoy. I drive an hour just to come here and the food never disappoints.

Was looking for authentic Cuban food for awhile. And I can tell this was the taste we were looking for. Cuban sandwich made on the right bread not Italian bread. We came from 1 1/2 hrs away due to a recommendation for here. They did let me down. Server was Gloria and was great. We ordered food to go as well and she made sure we had everything before we left. Traffic and parking in this area can be tricky but persistence pays off.

Service is great here. In the summer with heatwave was dehydrated and the gave us fresh ice water free. Their coffee is great , so are the churros especially the filled ones, empanadas, Cuban sandwich, and the main courses are great.

WOW!
I lived in Spain for 4 months and I know there’s a lot of Cuban based culture/food but the food, regardless of culture, was phenomenal.

We got…
- ham and cheese croqueta
- chicken empanada & fish empanada
- papaya smoothie
- Cuban sandwich
- cafe con leche (coffee w/ milk)
- different types of churros

+ the price! Minus the churros, total was $23. That’s really good for the economy today
+ cafe was exactly like Spain, I need sugar & Almond milk to hand Starbucks but their cafe I could have had no sugar it was that clean
+ I wanted to try all of their food that they were serving to everyone

This place was delicious and the prices were super fair.

This joint has authentic Cuban flavors, everything on their menu is spectacular. The service is outstanding.

Alejandra is our server for tonight. She's friendly and attentive.

My wife and I shared a potato ball. She had the Picadillo Criollo. I had a Cuban sandwich. We shared a salad.

For drinks we had a Carrot/Orange Juice and Morir Soñando.

One of the few Cuban eats staples still left here in Union City. Great customer service, menu selection of authentic Cuban cuisine, good portions, and fair prices. A true original Cuban business from the era of when Union City had mostly all Cuban family businesses.. Praying this place always remains.

Delicious 😋 ethnic Latino, Cuban, Puerto Rican dishes, fried appetizers, desserts and sides. Delicious Puerto Rican pasteles. Lots of tables. Friendly staff. Limited, hard to find Street Parking.

El Artesano reminds me of being in Cuba and has a great atmosphere. The service is efficient and friendly. There's table service, you can sit at the bar or take out. The breakfast special is tasty and very affordable. Slightly dissapointed in the freshness of the churros but that won't keep me from coming back!

I'm never disappointed by El Artesano. I hadn't visited in some time and the food and service were on point. My mom and I had the Mofongo, my dad the Ropa Vieja (Tuesday special), and we had churros for dessert. All delicious.

I lived in the neighborhood for many years. I live in South Florida now. Recently, I came back to visit NJ. Every time I come back, I make it a point to come eat at El Artesano. I'm never disappointed. The food is great. Felix and Ignacio treat you like family. Staff is amazing. Great service. Great place for authentic Cuban food at a very reasonable price.
