I was a visitor at the geriatric ward and have to say that the staff, from the security people entering the driveway, to the security in the building and then most importantly, the nurses and NP doctor that care for the patients were so incredibly friendly and patient, I never would have expected that and applause the hiring manager for whoever selected such good people to take care of people at such a vulnerable place and time in their lives. It was a struggle to get there but so glad we did and my family member who was there is feeling 10x better than she was before going in. Just want to say a big thank you to the staff that were so helpful and caring.

This place is terrible

My experience during my stay at New York Presbyterian is not the best. I have decided to give NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital Westchester Division Westchester Behavorial Center a review on Google for many reasons. Of all the departments in association with my care; the Department(s) of Psychiatry, in academic affiliation with Weill Cornell and Columbia University is terrible. They do not respect my word and directive regardless of presentation, in written or spoken format.

The facility and associated management by auxiliary staff is top-notch, for sure. There are State of the Art systems of security which is really cool. The janitorial staff do an amazing job with sanitation and disinfecting ; I’m glad the Unit is kept clean. There are also iPads available for patients.

The nurses of the Nurse’s station are pleasant and very helpful. I know I can count on them to help me when I need things for personal grooming, and they also routinely scan my blood pressure and other vitals. The nurses also serve as primary points of contact for general questions and concerns.

However, the members of the Department of Psychiatry are terrible. I do not want to meet with them. I want to be discharged. I am being neglected and ignored and when they huddle in front of my assigned room door, the Doctors and the social worker, her name is /ka-Â/ do not listen to me and do not respect my word. It’s as if Iam simply a dog or child to them, incapable of logical reasoning. They also purposefully present who I am as an inferior element of my hospitalization. They have changed my status unrightfully and in rights infringements have presented half/incomplete truths to the Supreme Court Justice.

I will provide images of my Discharge Request letter and Discharge Plan, requirements for patient discharge according to state and federal public policies.

I would not recommend New York Presbyterian Hospital to other people I know.

Update: [ 08/09/2021 ]

Previously, I was very unsatisfied with my care here. What I believe I need from staff I have finally received after posting this review before the update. What I have now, honoring of my side of the conversation in our meeting. Now they are helping me verbatim to my request and I am pleased. Apart of verbatim care, what I thought was “outpatient service referrals” (you know, for me being discharged and the social workers checking in to make sure the nonprofit or other agency is doing their job; as a term) does not have the same connotations as a “person who was discharged” aka “an outpatient” and support channels they receive as a person outside of the hospital.

I’m glad after this review on Google Maps and working with the Patient Services Administrators; I can receive the respect from individual care team members in our conversations. I will let them know that I want to be discharged to the care of myself, basically “released” and not transferred somewhere else from here. I will stay at a shelter appropriate to my demographics.

I was previously concerned about being funneled from one program to another, however I know now that everyone is just doing their best and what I know and mean versus what is commonly understood may not always be the case so I will proceed with special emphasis on communicating what I mean effectively.

I was working with The Door NYC previously, I’ll continue working with them, The Ali Forney Center and the Coalition for the Homeless to get back on track and stay off the streets!

Update [ 08/13/2021 ]

This is definitely a world-class hospital. The treatment is fair and the people who work here do the best that they can, granted circumstances and variables that are not “fixed” concerning inpatients and their responses to the practice of Medicine, here at the hospital. As I am being discharged today; my overall review is nonetheless a 5; as doctors are understanding and nurses are exceptional; therapists are most definitely capable at being the best in their activities and do so wonderfully!

I just got out of here today in inpatient. The nurses and staff are fantastic. They treat you with respect an dignity and there is no stigma around your situation from them. The activities are helpful, and the therapists truly care. If you have to go to a psychiatrist hospital, this is the place. Of course it’s not perfect, but no place is.

I can speak to the labor and delivery, and maternity departments at this hospital, both of which were wonderful. The nurses were so caring and kind during the birth of my son and as I recovered. We were also pleasantly surprised by the food services, in which the staff were also great.

I've been treated for depression, most of my life, and I have to say this place is top-notch. For the first time in my life I feel like my mental health issues have been treated appropriately. The staff here literally have saved my life. Highly recommend.

This is an excellent hospital. The grounds create a warm and welcoming atmosphere for patients and staff. This was one of the most caring and compassionate working in-patient experiences I have ever interned in, and I completely understand why they were commended for their client centered care approach. As a former chaplain and a person who has been exposed to in patient and out patient for family related concerns, I by far highly recommend this approach to integrative care, and staff development. I love this hospital and I respect the human centered experiences I saw in my time there.

I had good experiences here. I went to the adult women’s unit 2 times. The nurses, the doctors, and the therapists were very nice. The food was very good. And the other patients were nice. It really helped me a lot.

The BEST mental hospital I've ever been to. I've been to three different psych hospitals. I have severe depression and some BPD-traits. The staff actually treat you there. There are some groups and activities. It's pretty comfy for a mental hospital. I would highly recommend it if you're really sick and need inpatient care.

my sister went in to admit to their php dbt program, and they found her too medically unstable due to anxiety and depression, so they admitted her inpatient (adult). She was there a total of 3 weeks... when she admitted she was terribly anxious, depressed, not eating, she has bipolar disorder and a recent diagnosis of borderline personality disorder. she was incredibly negative, resistant to treatment, and speaking in a provocative way. they tried her on a number of medications and eventually tried a med that worked. In the last couple days of her stay her depression began to lift and she sounded more like her normal self again, for the first time in a long time. That is ALL I could've asked for. It has been an unexpected brutal, long six months of horrendous depression, anxiety, and the beginnings of substance abuse (which she ceased prior to starting at this hospital). Her social worker, briana, was incredibly communicative and compassionate...and I live far away and she even called me with the psychiatrist on the phone before her discharge to fully catch me up to speed. Because it's an inpatient hospital, it can be a scary environment with patients that are struggling immensely...but overall they appeared to have stabilized her and helped begin the process of lifting her depression, so I right now I can't ask for more than that. I'm looking forward to seeing her make progress at their php program.

I have nothing but good things to say about the level of care my teenager has received in NYP Westchester. The location is very calming, surrounded by green, away from the city and the staff are very professional and compassionate. I would definitely recommend it

Best experience I ever had. I was treated here and everyone was very kind and compassionate. I wish they had more outdoor activities or a courtyard of some sort to get some fresh air but that could be said of every hospital.

My son got the best care for his anxiety disorder, after a year of no progress at NSLIJ, Zucker and. South Oaks. The unit is safe, clean, and the doctors were great. NSLIJ discharged him after 72 hours. NYP kept him 2-3 weeks, releasing him when he was ready. I'm forever grateful.

One of the best most effective inpatient treatment I have ever received. I have been inpatient at ALL the NYC Manhattan hospitals, and a few in Westchester County, Harrison, NY. The care, nurses, psychiatrist and staff were excellent.
