I was there working on site as part of an EarthWatch team in 1979. I had nearly finished Highschool so this was my second experience being away from home. Just simply a fascinating place with so.much a History and just a great bunch of people to spend time with
I was so lucky to actually dig bones and experience this cave as an 18 year old. Would love to trade stories with others who have worked on this site at various times.

Would be nice to be able to get down in there. It would be nice if they had scheduled tours down into the cave.

Spent a few weeks in the cave in the summer of 1974 with an Earthwatch group recovering mastodon from the guano at the bottom of the cave. Quite the experience for a then 17 year high school student. I remember listening to Nixon's resignation speech on one of the Jeep radios. The view from the bottom of the cave, looking up at the tiny circle of light was exhilarating and still a vivid memory all these decades later.

Worth the drive up. But use caution if driving there from the south, one pretty bad spot 50 yards from cave.

Would be better if you could get in without having to get a permit
