MKE Design Build

MKE Design Build was amazing to work with for our home renovation project. From start to finish, the entire team was fantastic. We were able to work with the team at MKE Design Build to customize our project based on the factors important to us.

Once the work began on our project, the team was accessible for any questions we had and communicated what to expect regularly. No work was done without it being communicated to us that someone was going to show up on a given day at a given time or time-range. There were no instances of a contractor randomly showing up unannounced.

The team also did their best to minimize the disruption to our lives while the project was being completed.

We had a phenomenal experience with MKE Design Build and they will definitely be our first call for any other projects we look to complete in the future.

MKE Design Build did an amazing job with our 2nd floor remodel. Everyone agrees the new space is “stunning!” They were incredibly communicative at all points in the process and stayed on timeline, which is almost unheard of with contractors these days. We would absolutely use them in the future and highly recommend them!

I reached out to the team at MKE Design Build after meeting with (and not being terribly impressed by) a few other companies - so glad I did.

My project was a second story build out (at least that's that the people in the know called it - I needed my attic renovated and wanted a bathroom with a walk-in shower). Communication from the very first was excellent. I was given the current timeline that they would be able to take on new projects and confirmed that I could wait until then. Michelle came over on the first appointment and we talked about the space, what I wanted and then she spent a good 45 minutes taking measurements and making notes upstairs. After that I received the first proposal and we made our way from there.

The process was soon impacted by covid as was the budget. I was given a clear understanding of where costs had gone up (mainly materials) and suggestions of how I could make adjustments to the scope, materials, timing in order to claw back the costs. It honestly worked out fantastic. I was able to put the focus on things that I needed to be done very well (windows/skylights, insulation, electric, plumbing, tiling, drywall) and leave off some of the "would have been nice but not necessary" items for me to work on myself at a later date. The end result is better than I'd imagined.

Working with the MKE team - Michelle, Matt, Tom, Chris, Maria and Karissa and the scores of in house craftsmen and trusted partners was a great experience. Overall they were respectful of property, tidy, thoughtful in their communications and Chris made some serious magic happen when it came to defining the varying ceiling angles and installing the cedar beams. I trusted them to do a good job and they did a great job. Not only do I have the most beautiful walk in shower known to mankind (thank you Caleb for the tiling), but they crafted a really special space upstairs taking into account and making the most of the attributes and charm of a 95 year old bungalow.

The pictures are from when the job was nearly completed. Since then I have painted, installed a hardwood floor and baseboards, added a sliding barn door for the closet, installed two hanging lights in the ceiling peaks, in-between the beams, and have just had a great time adding finishes to the expertly defined space.

Michelle, Matt and the entire MKE Design Build Team were fantastic to work with on our basement finishing project. We were probably not their typical customer, and they worked with us to manage size/scope of project to what our needs were.

The process at MKE Design & Build is well defined, easy to understand, and their proposal formats are as high quality as with what I've written and contracted in my industrial work for large multimillion/multiyear projects. Their entire team's say/do ratio was 100%. It has been several years since I've experienced that, even in my day job.

Their pricing was transparent and fair, and while they were not the lowest cost bidder on our project, we're so glad we went with them. The entire project once confirmed took about 2 months, and was right on schedule with regular touchpoints on project schedule/status. They were also proactive with permitting and open communication, and looked out for us and our project schedule along the way. We would not hesitate to do work with them again!

We cannot say enough about the fabulous experience we had working with MKE Design Build on the remodel of our kitchen. When Michelle came to our home the first time we told her the things we did not care for in the layout of our kitchen. With her knowledge and expertise she listened to us and worked to design a kitchen that is not only beautiful but seems much larger and definitely more efficient than our original kitchen. When the demolition and construction began, Tom was fabulous at keeping us informed on site and with weekly emails informing us what had been accomplished and what to expect the following week. Each day the worksite was left clean and safe. Tom and Michelle were so professional, helpful and kind as we picked things out, asked questions, changed our minds and took forever making decisions. Their entire team was great. Each person was the best at their specialty. It was obvious the crew enjoyed working together and for MKE Design Build. We have an older home and the finished kitchen matches the style and era of our home. As you can tell we are thoroughly pleased with our entire remodel. We have enjoyed our beautiful kitchen for over a month now and continue to stand back and admire it all. We would highly recommend MKE Design Build and would only work with this company if we need work done in the future.

MKE Design build was fantastic to work with. To start, the design team is full of great ideas but also listens very well to the needs of the customer! I enjoyed working with the designer, Michelle, so much that I have contacted her for other projects and ideas before our first project was complete.

We updated our basement and every team we worked with was fantastic. The carpenters are incredibly detailed and very clean. The other teams we worked with were very nice and friendly.

We received project updates as needed and whenever we had questions, MKE always responded promptly.

MKE Design Build did an excellent job for us. We highly recommend them for any project.

Our project was the addition of a full bathroom and walk-in closet on our second floor. It included a large dormer being added to our second floor. Our old home made the project even more challenging.

MKE Design Build did an amazing job understanding our vision, translating it into a beautiful design, and turning the plans into reality. We had a very specific style we were hoping to achieve, and we were worried that the design and material selection process would take us forever. We provided Michelle a few pictures to explain our general vision, and she got it immediately. She paired our selections down to a few great options for each element of the design. It only took a few meetings to finalize all of the design decisions. We were very impressed with Michelle’s talent for design.

Once the building began, the team communicated with us through every step. Michelle and Tom were always available, and they quickly responded to every call, text or email. Their whole team was very respectful of our house and our neighbors. We live very close to each of our neighbors, and we didn’t receive a single complaint. Our project involved putting up scaffolding on the edge of our neighbor’s property for a few days in order to finish the exterior. Our neighbor later told us how courteous the team was, and how respectful they were of her property while working over there.

Each change in our design plan was clearly discussed and changes to the original quote were agreed to ahead of time. We did not have any surprises when it came to projects costs and payments.

The bathroom and closet are beautiful. We love it. Michelle and the team helped us work through every challenge our old home presented in order to get exactly what we were hoping for out of the project.

We had a great experience with MKE Design Build. They were easy to work with. I felt very comfortable with all the workers in our home. They had a clear vision for what would work in our home. When we needed to save money on our project they came with ideas to do things more affordably and I don’t feel like we lost anything. The quality of work was great and they kept to their stated schedule.

Michelle, Tom and the team at MKE Design Build did a phenomenal job with our kitchen and bath full gut remodel. Turned what was a bland and crowded space into a kitchen that boasts style and excellent functionality. They worked with us the entire way from design to completion. We loved our experience with MKE Design! They were organized, communicative and most of all honest. Michelle was fantastic to assist with all the design and layout. She was so patient with all of my questions. I really respected her opinion and input, and the finished product is better than we could've imagined! MKE did a full demo and remodel of our kitchen, master bath, mud room, built a new stair rail, and opened up walls to make the home look more open. We also added a skylight in our stairway. While the project ended up costing more than the original quote, most of that was due to my desire to have higher end finishes. My suggestion for anyone remodeling is to look carefully at the quote and get an idea of how their quote for items like lighting, fixtures, tile, etc. compares to those that you have already been eyeing. Those were the only items that weren't exactly inline, all of the costs related to building materials, labor, etc. was all on point. The team was always timely and professional. Everyone was at the house by 7:30-8am to get to work, and they worked their butts off until 5pm EVERYDAY. We lived through the majority of the renovation, and they were very accommodating to that. They always made sure to put up plastic zippered walls to avoid getting dust in areas that they weren't working on. I also appreciated that if something was off, they would immediately fix it. MKE Design/Build was terrifically knowledgeable and helpful during planning. Their detailed drawings were invaluable. During construction they were quickly responsive and detail oriented. They took great care to protect carpets and set effective dust barriers, while keeping us fully informed and answering all of our questions. Our shower remodel was completed on time, and is more beautiful and functional than anticipated.

MKE Design Build is a homeowner’s dream remodeler. Designer, Michelle, helped me work out my vague ideas into a specific plan and gave gentle suggestions regarding fixtures, wood for flooring, etc. when I wasn’t sure what to choose. Once that crucial plan was finished, Tom and his crew made it a reality. The prep work initially done to keep the rest of my living area clean was impressive. All crew members were friendly and diligent workers. Tom was always available to answer questions as the work proceeded. When the project was completed, I had a new bedroom, den, walk-in closet, living and dining room, patio door and front door in my recently purchased condo. The attention to detail and quality building products were essential to how pleased I was with the finished remodel. I will hire MKE Design Build when I’m ready to re-do my kitchen, as I know I can count on them to complete the work on time and within my budget.
