We decided to stop here because we saw the Indian Mound from the hwy. I'm so glad we did because we had a great tour with Lisa, and we loved the history behind the Hardman Family Farm. It is definitely worth it. The views are great, and the tour thru the mansion was so interesting. Tours start on the hour and after the tour you can walk around and explore the grounds. All the staff we met were so nice!

What a great trip into yesteryear. The horse-drawn buggy, the beautiful mansion, furniture, accessories and decor were a memorable sight. The family in Victorian attire playing the parts of the original family were delightful. The Father Christmas was perfect!

Beautiful farm with a lot of history. We were there on a Wednesday so unfortunately there was no tour that day inside the house so we just toured the grounds. The $6 cost for the self guided walk was well worth it. It's $12 for the guided tours that also gives access inside the house but walking the grounds at our own pace and peeking through the house windows was a nice relaxing way to spend a couple hours.

Hardman Farm State Historic Site located near Helen Georgia is a wonderful place to visit. There's a trail (Hardman trail) along the river that's beautiful and will take you in to Helen. There's a lot of history in the area and so many things to see. The historic site includes an 1870 Italianate mansion.
Very busy on the day that I went.

Fun Fact:

Capt. James Nichols built the main house in 1870 and the gazebo atop Nacoochee Mound in 1890. His daughter Anna Ruby Nichols is the namesake of Anna Ruby Falls.

Entry was free the day we went due to an art festival that was taking place. However, had there been payment needed the price was beyond reasonable. I can’t remember what it was but I remember being excited to pay it if I’d had to! This is a neat experience for anyone that enjoys architecture and history. It’s like taking a step back in time and the amount of period artifacts that are intact was so exciting for me. My son also enjoyed walking around and seeing everything.

Great tour with lots of interesting facts. The only problem was a 3 yr old running around in circles in the house while I was trying to hear the docent. She told her parents that it was OK. She was free and one of them could have taken her outside if she couldn't handle it

Great place to visit. Make sure to call ahead to see if you can go inside or just walk the grounds. Sweet lady at visitor's center so helpful.

I have lived in North Georgia since 2013 and have never until today had the opportunity to visit the Hardman Farm. I wish I would have known about this place sooner.
I found out about it through Georgia State Parks Super Museum Sunday, a free day to visit the state parks historical sights.
It will absolutely be on my return list to visit. A wonderful place filled with rich Georgia history. It is well taken care of and the State Park workers and volunteers are very friendly and informative.
Other than the ramp down to the gift shop I don’t think it would be easy to maneuver a wheel chair for handicap access.
This property has been preserved to its original late 1800’s build. Being such, not a great deal of consideration for wheelchairs.
There are clean bathrooms in the gift shop. But the rest of the property has no public restrooms.
Be prepared to walk. Remember this was a working dairy farm in the late 1800s and early 1900s. As such… it’s a farm!! A big one!
I fully recommend visiting the Hardman Farm.

Easy parking. There was a renovation portion of the porch. Nice walking around and learning historic location. The day we went, they were have an art fair in the shop. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable. It will take about an hour - hour and a half for this visit.

Enjoyed learning about such a tiny piece of history that is connected to a significant part of American history.

An afternoon filled with history and a beautiful house. So much to learn and see here. The guided tour is definitely the way to go and to learn so much about this place. We will definitely be back to see things dressed up for Christmas. Highly recommend Hardman’s Farm for anyone interested in a little history or just looking for something to do in the Helen, GA area.

Beautiful setting, house and interesting to hear the history of the place. A lot of old tools, era correct furniture and working farm in the premises. Worth the stop, but the guided tour was the best way to get the history.

This place is beautiful and full of history! Great opportunity to learn about farming. These grounds are so peaceful and nice to walk around! We have spent an hour here. Houses are closed now so we could just look through the windows to see the interiors. Everything is well preserved and you can see that continuous repairs are still in process. There's also a nature trail along the creek but it was too crowded for us (Sunday afternoon). We have bought local honey from Smithgall Woods and sorghum syrup as well. So tasty!

Home of the future from the late 1800's! This is a truly beautiful and Captivating house built by Captain Nicholas who had some pretty creative ways to heat and cool the home without electricity. JT our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and pleasant. The house had 3 owners and the third was a doctor who added a dairy farm which is also pretty incredible for that time period. This is a must see for everyone. Very rich with history.

This place is surprisingly great to visit, lots to explore and learn here. Take a walk from Hardman Farm Heritage Trail to the farm, there's free parking there. Very nice short walk to the farm.

We have been coming here for 35 yrs. Finally stopped in. Let me say, we have been on a lot of historical tours throughout this country, and this tour with Lisa was amazing. So much history and so many items are still in the house from the original owner back in 1870.
Truly amazing!!

This was such a beautiful farm. We loved the walking trail Hardman to Helen. It was such a beautiful day and loved that it was well shaded to even be more comfortable. The lovely creeks that cross the path to the river and the waterfall you pass was nice as well. The water was flowing heavily that day and you could feel the energy from the water. We came in late so the buildings were closed. We will have definitely go back the next time we are in the area. Helen, Ga is a really nice small town. It was quite busy and it wasn’t fully season yet. The outdoor activities had not opened yet due the the water and evenings being so cold still. There is a winery next door to the Farm I would love to visit next time as well. The historical Indian mound was interesting as well. I would like to know more about this next time. It’s a great place to visit when you are in the area.
