A very impressive collection of many instruments. They have an enormous collection in which they rotate their pieces so it’s always changing. I especially loved the piano collection and was taken back with the documented history.

The curator (and who acquired many pieces himself) was well versed in his knowledge of each piece and even played some pieces for us. He was helpful and enjoyed answering our questions.

I might also add even the young man taking our ticket had a wealth of information to share and very helpful.

We will return again.

Free admission day. Awesome museum!
Tickets are usually $7 adult but docent said admission was free when we went. 1st pic is an Albion Tablet piano from 1830 (the only one in existence). 2nd pic is a finger piano. 3rd pic is called a Bible piano. 4th pic is a drum made from a human skull. Variety of instruments from the 1500's on up from Europe, Asia and Africa. Had fun. Recommend!

We always make sure whenever we visit a city or town we include a museum in our schedule. Sigal Music Museum is a must if you visit or live in Greenville and music interests you. Every minute while there was absorbed like sponges. Really impressive collection of historic pianos and harpsichords on the first floor. It was eye-opening to see the intense and dedicated work that was involved for the master craftsmen of the time to create these instruments and that they still exist today.

A fun display of early rock and roll nostalgia is on the second floor. It was our pleasure to have the opportunity to talk at length with the curator who described they have a large inventory and regularly change the main floor exhibit. He went on to say how the floor above gave them an option to put up something different for patrons to see, and they decided to dedicate this space to the earlier histories of music that became great inspirations for the public.

The Newberry Academy Music Appreciation, High School Band, and High School Drama classes visited on Fri 03/22/24. Thank you so much David for your help with arranging the tour and payment was very easy. As always, the tour was very informative and interactive. The secular and sacred musical instruments from other countries were awesome and outstanding. See ya next year. A FUN PLACE TO VISIT!!!

Absolutely phenomenal. Period. The first thing I'll say is that this museum is small at the moment compared to the actual size of the building. After all, it has only been open since the Spring. There are only 2 rooms, one on each floor. However, they are both filled with historic grand pianos, harpsichords, and square pianos. Complete with descriptions and histories of each one. One of their grand pianos was reportedly played by Chopin for a few hours, another was unbelievably found in a chicken coop. Each one is beautiful and immaculately restored, but unfortunately not all are in tune. In fact, you can't play the majority of them (they're roped off and don't let them catch you trying! lol). The curator Tom has big plans for this museum in the coming months, which will eventually include string instruments. I can't wait to see this museum the next time I go down to South Carolina.

Excellent exhibits, even for non-musical folks!! Parking is either in the Upcountry Museum lot (free) or the farther pay lot closer to the theater (free with a stamp from Sigal). There's 1 handicap parking spot in the Sigal staff lot. Without a handicap permit, we dropped our family members in the staff lot and parked in the theater lot, and enjoyed the good walk across the green.

The staff here are knowledgeable and kind. The artifacts are out of this world. Make sure when you go you scan the QR code with your phone so you can hear the Spotify Playlist of the instruments. All you do is take out your smart phone and point the camera at the qr image and it will redirect you to a website (just click the popup). It's easy and really adds to experience.

What a fantastic place. An amazing array of early pianos and harpsichords. They even let you try a few out. Listening stations are great and include pieces performed on the various instruments.

An evening visit for their southern music series. Heard a good local bluegrass band. Next up is Appalachian traditional music, followed by blues and jazz. Music was in a small room filled with antique keyboard instruments. Plan to visit the museum again as it looks to be quite interesting.

A real showcase for the Upstate of SC! A finer collection of vintage instruments is nowhere to be found in the Americas. The Broadwood piano (1845) was once played by Chopin.

This museum is a treasure and a gift to our community (especially students, parents, educators, musicians, and historians). If you are visiting Greenville or anywhere in the SC Upstate, I recommend planning time to visit this museum. You will learn a thing or two during your tour of the collection of beautiful instruments.

Really enjoyed the exhibits. Will return to see the piano that was played by Mozart when it returns. A lot of musical history here. Well worth the admission whether you are a musician or not.

This is an excellent museum with an extraordinary collection of American pianos, organs, and harpsichords on the first floor. We were fortunate to have a private tour with Kaliyah (sp) that brought the stories behind each piece to life. She is a knowledgeable guide and the sweetest person.
Upstairs is an eclectic exhibit that takes you back in time through the birth of Jazz to rock and roll, and really honors the African American artists who started it all. It was fun listening to the tracks form the different artists Lots to see and learn there.
We had a great time and will be back to explore again.

A lot of pianos and history packed into this museum. The second floor was as interesting broadening to albums and other instruments that focused on home grown musicians. The building itself is unique, was a coke bottling plant as I understand. A must see if you visit or live here.
