We had to try this famous BBQ place after being featured in one of our favorite TV shows, and we were not disappointed! The brisket, turkey and sausage were excellent. The sides were very good-I would recommend the potato salad. The only draw back with the sides is they only come in individual portions for dine in. Also, no forks-but who needs forks when the meats are this good. Highly recommend!

No forks, paper for plates but oh - what a great place to eat! Went to Smitty's in Lockhart Texas. It certainly was an experience and a tasty one at that! Order your meat directly from the people who are cooking it and then step inside the dining area and get your sides... my son and I enjoyed the turkey, and brisket. My youngest and his uncle enjoyed the ribs. Out of the way but very much worth the trip!

Never been before and was glad we made the stop while we did our own mini BBQ Texas Trail tour. We tried a chop and sausage to make comparisons to the others in the area. Smitty's sausage is how I remember City Markets USED to be and seasoned to perfection. The smoked chop...I wanted more smoke flavor in the center of the chop, otherwise, it was delicious as well. Will stop again to try the other cuts.

Definitely the best barbecue place I’ve ever been in Texas. The meat is excellent and smoky flavour, I still have the taste like 5 hours later in my mouth. Also the place is so authentic looking with live fire, smoked dark walls and ceilings. If you like barbecue and old brick buildings you can’t miss this place!

Well this is just the BBQ place to visit for beef brisket, no doubt, best ever had. They have the pit burning apparently since they opened. Get Beef Brisket at the meat counter, and onions and pickles at the other and feast.

Without a doubt, one of my favorite BBQ places around the greater Austin area. Now I understand why Lockhart is the barbecue capital of Texas. Loved it. Turkey was fantastic. The sausage was my favorite. Smitty's does it right. But remember, they do not have forks. Please don't ask for one; you'll embarrass yourself. You've been warned.

Delicious BBQ! Brisket was flavorful and lean. We walked in 10 minutes before closing and they still had most items like brisket and sausage. The workers wrapped up our big order quick.

Apparently, my family has come here since the 90s, and one of my first experiences going to south Texas was going to Smitty’s Market.
The atmosphere is great with its vintage signage and advertising. The food is amazing and service is pretty fast paced. This place amazed me as a kid and going back later as an adult it was exactly the same. Great BBQ

Some of the best BBQ in Texas. These guys produce the most delicious, tender meats with the help of their old-school wood fired pit. The brisket was moist and delicious, with just the right amount of saltiness to it. They also have an awesome pork chop and juicy pork ribs. Cash or check only—but well worth the stop at an ATM. Don’t be put off if there’s a line to order, it’ll be worth your wait. This is real Texas BBQ. Come hungry!

When you walk in you have a burning fire right by your feet, that they use to smoke meat. It smells incredible. The menu confused me at first, but in all I ordered by the slice (ex. 4 slices of brisket, 1 sausage and half a chicken) also highly recommend this order! No forks here! Get ready ro dig in. Pickles, onions and sides are extra in the room next to where you order your meat. The potato salad and Mac and cheese blew my mind. The bbq sauce tasted homemade. For someone like me who never really appreciated smoked meat till Texas, this is one of the best BBQ restaurants I've ever had. I will be back.

Wow is that good stuff.

Ample parking. Easy entry. Two lines to order from.

Get meats from smoker served on butcher paper then go inside for drinks and sides.

Long tables to sit at in two different dinning areas.

Big old building with stuff to look at.

Texas has really good bbq. This has got to be one of the best.

I will return when in the area.

Enjoyed an excursion to one of the oldest BBQ pits in Texas. Excellent brisket, ribs, chicken, and sausage. Helpful attendants that made us feel like family. The old school cash or check only and downtown set up left our family walking out satisfied and hoping to come back again.

This place is pretty awesome. The history of the building and the way they still cook their meat is intriguing, and the smell of this place as soon as you walk in the door has your stomach growling. The food, from the brisket to the sausage is very amazing and I can honestly say, unmatched, even in Lockhart. The staff were welcoming, very helpful, and nice to have a conversation with. I absolutely recommend this place for a lunch or dinner, and make sure you definitely try their smoked sausage. The texture and the taste is unlike anything I’ve ever had. The sausage is plump, crisp, and juicy with a lingering taste of Texas. We took some of the sausage down to the coast to throw in a seafood boil and BBQ, and it did not disappoint.

I had gone there years ago and let me tell you I still think about this place till this day. I'm actually writing this because I was thinking about going again some time soon and the only reason I didn't go any sooner was because I couldn't remember where or what the name of this BBQ was. The meat is so juicy and soft...but if you prefer to chew a little more they also have that too. Please come try the food trust me you won't regret it.

No forks! Was not a problem for me the food so good that you don’t need a fork just get I. There and start eating. We had a great time visiting Smittys market and would recommend it to anyone I know. I can see why this place is a staple for when you go to Lockhart. We can’t wait to go back and get more great sausage.

If you love Texas BBQ, you will love Smitty's! I had the brisket and it was sensational. The crust is very flavorful and the fat is rendered perfectly. I cannot speak to the sides since I had only the brisket. The open fires in the hot room and the history of this place are so cool. I loved looking around almost as much as I loved eating there. Not a long drive from Austin and totally worth it!

Lives up to the hype. Better than Black's BBQ imo. Friendly staff and they accomodated us bringing our dog in as we were traveling from Fort Worth to Corpus Christi. We sat in the back on some picnic tables and it was just fine. The Turkey is excellent. The Brisket was a little dry but great flavor. Ask for it wet. The spicy sausage was great as well. My least favorite side were the beans. Everything else was good.

If you want old school fire pit BBQ, come here. I think this is one of the last ones still in existence. Order what you what in pounds, but if there out of it... They're out of it. So prime rib goes fast. Didn't get to try it. Which was a bummer. But tried the brisket and jalapeño sausage. Tasted great. Matter of fact this place was featured on dinners, dive ins, and dives.

Such delicious brisket, sausage and chicken (weekends only). Cool Jose gave me and my guy a tour of the entire place and it’s like a museum in there, with all the kitchen antiques displayed. There’s about 7 ovens all over and they start the pits at 5 or 6 am. So cool learning about such an establishment! Will be back.
