I had a surprise visit to this shop today when getting something to eat nearby. A guy there knows a ton about wines as I was looking for a Spanish sherry. The one he said he made it sound really good. When I got home I was surprised because it said wine on the bottle but not sherry as it would normally. The brand he recommended was actually written as one of the best from Spain and a sherry maker and of that region so im looking forward to trying it. I normally actually don't just get things because someone recommended it but he assured me it would be good. I'm not sure how he seemed to really know!

Holy moly! This place is so excellent and Brian really knows his old world wines. We could end up here every weekend if we lived in Austin. Today we snagged a Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc and I'm very happy about it 😍

Did not have the time to walk around and purchase their wines due to running late for a flight, but the Austin Wine Merchant was amazingly helpful after a day of exploring Hill Country and acquiring a number of wines. They were able to help us secure and package wines to ship home. They even helped us pack and tape the wines we brought in. Super nice and helpful people. Will be coming to check out their selection the next time we’re in Austin.

This is hands down the best wine shop in Austin, if not in all of Texas. They have an amazing selection of Burgundian wines as well as many other French, Italian, Spanish, German, and Austrian wines. There is a large selection of domestic wines and spirits. They keep the temperature at a cool 60 degrees so the wines are all stored in optimal conditions. Go and let them help you pick out some fine wines!

I went in and they did not carry the wine I was looking for, but they reached out to the distributor and had a case for me within two days because I had come in after 5 o’clock. Otherwise they could’ve had it the next day..

One of the best wine shops in the country, no exaggeration. Very deep selection, especially in Burgundy and Riesling. Personal and knowledgeable service. All this and better prices in general than at so-called discount liquor stores like Specs.

Best wine store in Austin, hands down. John and Lucinda have owned this place for decades and are knowledgeable and attentive to their customers. Brian Smith has also been there for a long time and knows his stuff. If you are an old world wine fan, their selection is amazing, and good prices too.

PRO'S: The Austin Wine Merchant may be the finest wine store in Texas for unusual and hard to find wines in EVERY price range. Knowledgeable personnel and a large wine selection make exploring the aisles an adventure.

SUMMARY: The Austin Wine Merchant is worth the two hour drive to explore, find & enjoy new and hard to find wines.

An excellent selection, tightly packed in cellar-like rows of old fashioned wine bins. Very knowledgable staff who regularly taste the wines on offer. It never fees like they're pushing a particular producer or case, they're just happy to discuss your likes/dislikes and make suggestions on what to try. Excellent selection of spirits too.

Austin Wine Merchant is my favorite place to buy liquor in Austin. They have superb customer service and if they don't carry what you want they will try to get it for you. It is always enjoyable to go there and they have lots of things that you can't find anywhere else. They have a parking lot which is a huge plus. I love Austin Wine Merchant.

The most helpful and courteous service - I called from another state to get a next day delivery to a local hotel for a special occasion. The team hand-picked wines to suit and were incredibly helpful making all of the arrangements. We'll definitely be back.

No matter if it is your first time or 100th time visiting they provide a top notch experience. John is a wealth of knowledge and his recommendations are superb for any budget. Absolutely fantastic collection of spirits, cocktail fixings, and of course wine! Laird's Straight Apple Brandy? Yes. Rare Japanese gin? Yes. Sought after whiskies? Yes. Hard to find vermouths? Absolutely. I am more into spirits than wines, so my shopping experience is slanted in that direction, but every experience I've had here has been great, and they always have what I'm looking for. They are the sort of shop where - if they are carrying it, it's because it's a great product. Their website is extremely helpful in determining whether they have something ahead of time as well as for looking at reviews of different categories of things before you go and pick it up in-store. Prices are also fair and even great!

Brian is the best Sommelier to help you select from all the amazing wines. He will advise you professionally and personably after he gets to know you. John Roenigk has built an institution of a boutique wine shop. There is no bad wine in the entire shop so you can’t go wrong to buy local and let them guide you from one bottle to cases for your collection.
