The Fort Diner

A definite hole-in-the-wall place that delivers wonderfully expert food creations and great hometown service. We were passing through and decided to try this place. From the exterior it appeared questionable and a kind of a dump. It gets cozy inside, but the staff is friendly and regular customers are a treat. The one cook was cooking as fast as he could and delivered an amazing meal! We were very impressed and wished we had one closer to us. Would like to visit again.

Great food from a classic diner! Better value and quality than any of the places with a drive through.

If you ever find yourself in Fort Madison, this place is a must go!!! Their food gives you the authentic diner experience and is delicious. Definitely a hole-in-the-wall. Would highly recommend.

These are some of my favorite places to eat. I'm from Des Moines, and this reminded me of George the Chile King Drive-in. The style, atmosphere, food, everything you want from a diner! This place has it. Overlooking the mighty Mississippi River.
In my opinion you can't beat great food, good people and a view of a River.

Just ate here, the food and service were exceptional. The pepper jack cheese balls are a must get. Everything was hot and fresh made right in front of you, we will definitely return.

I loved the food there at this place. Plus I wanna try the challenge that they have on my next visit to ft Madison.

Wallyburger was delicious and the place did not disappoint. Besides the food our server Kennedy was very sweet. She really took care of us. We came all the way from St. Louis for the best burger in Iowa according to a food magazine and they were right. It was that good. The bbq that they were bringing off the smoker also looked fantastic.

This is the perfect place to eat in this town. Local, regional, friendly staff, open kitchen, straight forward unpretentious food. Our visit to Ft Madison is all the better for eating here. We had the Walt's Mess and the 1/2 Wally Burger [a whole one is 1 pound of beef - we SHOULD have ordered that, it looked better than the 1/2 when presented], and onion rings. The customers were great, we spoke with several at the counter while we eat.

A nice little diner, friendly staff and some great comfort food. The smash burger was good.

Was here on BBQ day! Yeah. Better that most "BBQ" restaruants. I had a brisket sandwich that oh so juicy and tasty!

The food is awesome the service is the best and the atmosphere takes me back to my childhood when my dad took me to the little dinners in Burlington

This little place is the neatest! All 6 of us sat at the counter and ate dinner after a long day of geode hunting and exploring different parts of the area. We were all starved and this hit the spot 👌 The waitress was an absolute doll! You don't meet a lot of people like her and you don't find a lot of places like this one 😊

Extremely good food very nice people we had a nice Sunday meal

I was not thrilled to get lunch here but it was convenient and we were hungry. Best BLT of my life. Service was great. My picky child ate every bite of his lunch and let me mention that BLT again. Simple with fantastic ingredients! Thank you!

This place has great food especially the 1 lbs Wally burger . I eat half it was so big but good.

Cool spot to eat. Real old school home town diner feel. Friendly staff, excellent food, great service, and the prices are just right. Would eat here again no problem!
