Warm and welcoming! The kitten I adopted is wonderful and the shelter was able to help me with all of my questions. They also offer spay/neuter and microchipping very affordable for their animals. Check out their on-site thrift shop for great deals on collars and other pept supplies as well as lots of cute housewares/decor.

My experience has been positive with Heart of the Catskills.

I contacted the shelter via email to meet and potentially adopt an older cat who had been living at the shelter for years. Laura, who I guess is the office administrator, responded and was very transparent about this cat and some of her past behavioral quirks and former health issues. I still wanted the cat after Laura disclosed these things to me.

It was easy to set up a shelter visit to meet the cat and they gave me her health records and gave her a dose of parasite prevention meds right before I took her home.

My new family member has been nothing but delightful and my husband and I are thankful for her.

I was able to adopt a new family member because of HCHS' commitment to housing animals for extended periods of time (my cat had lived at this shelter for almost 7 years).

I'm not sure where the reviews about the staff being rude and unresponsive come from, but I do want folks to give this shelter a chance. The people who work here are friendly, kind, and capable. And there are plenty of animals here who deserve help from the community.

Hands down best shelter I ever visited thanks to Deb! She is absolutely wonderful and the kindest lady I ever met! I visited almost everyday after college classes and even when I graduated I drove two hours just to visit again before I moved to Texas. They let me foster a few cats while I was living off campus at college smee, fin and mischief very sweet cats miss all my fosters dearly!

This facility is the best!! We've adopted so many animals from Deb and her crew. We wouldn't go anywhere else. They are all so nice, and Understanding. Adoption fees are beyond reasonable, and they take care of everything for you!!! We love them all!!!!

Really warm and patient staff. We adopted a really sweet older cat here. There are lots more that need homes.

We got our wonderful kittens Pharaoh and Marmite (formerly Marinate) from here and the staff is fantastic - you can really tell they love animals.

Have a home filled with three cats and a yellow lab from this dependable, unconditionally loving shelter. Had a great border collie that was filled with love and 2 other wonderful cats that were amazing that loved us for many many years. This is the ONLY SHELTER I go to. The staff is so genuine and caring. Its wonderful!!! Our hearts are full of their love !!!🐾🐈🐈🐈🦮🐕‍🦺🐈🐈

This is an outstanding no-kill shelter. The community is extremely supportive. I was there most recently there for a two-day rummage and bake sale. The donations were quality and purchise was by donation. It turns out the the rummage sale makes more money by letting the purchasers set the donation rather than marking prices on the mercy.

I have two new kitten from here that are awesome new additions to my family. The friendly staff are always willing to answer any questions or concerns you may have and they have a boat load of animals to choose from for the next addition to your family.

Even before I worked at the heart of the Catskills, i would for sure tell anybody that these are a wonderful group of people. The things that they do for their community, all the way down to helping one single individual, is done with a very specific level of care and humility. The people who run this place, or as I like to call them, the "heart" of The Heart of the Catskills if you will, are down right amazing. They care for their furry guest as if they were their own children. Bottom line is The Heart of the Catskills is an amazing place with down right amazing people, and if your looking to adopt a cat or a dog, this is the place to go. As I said before, they care for the animals so much, as well as finding the animals a good home. If you need a furry companion who needs your love as much as you need theirs? Than your search is over!!! It's also the perfect place to do some volunteer work as well.

I worked with this rescue group to save a dog that was at Animal Control in the city. It was such a different feeling going from that to this haven. Everyone was so affectionate toward the dog and she just lit up, did a 180 and went from nervous and edgy to at ease and happy. I worked directly with the owner who has such a heart from animals. I am sure they would be amazing to work with on the adoption end of things as well.

What a great facility and even greater staff. I had to put my dog down after having her for 14 years. The staff was so kind and sympathetic to my situation, when having to cremate her, due to an horrific experience I had in the past with a different facility. I would give 10 🌟 if I could!

A bunch of loving, caring folks who have a heart of gold. Overall, a great place to adopt your favorite critters.

Hands down the best animal shelter I have worked with. Through them I was able to find my first cat who is my life saver. They are organized and have some lovable animals that need homes. Super sweet staff!

We love the Heart of the Catskills! We got our furbaby, Tyson, from them. We have officially had him a year and he has changed so much over that time. As you can see he is one spoiled little boy.

The Heart of the Catskills is amazing! The staff is knowledgeable and extremely supportive in all stages of pet adoption. They are loving and take exceptional care of all of their shelter animals !

A very well run shelter with an accommodating and caring staff. They even arranged for me to adopt Scamp during hours when they were closed because I was traveling from about 100 miles away. Scamp was just as described and is a great dog.
