Great place to visit and take daily hikes with the kids. Very even easy trails and a variety of Reptiles to view. I have found 2 snake pits containing Great Northern Banded Water snakes and Eastern Ribbon and Eastern Garter snakes. There are approximately ten types of turtles you can find basking in the sunlight too. Most people don't know that the canal runs for 77 miles into Philadelphia built by Irish immigrants in 1836 because ships couldn't get up the Raritan river past landing lane bridge at low tide.any people have been buried alongside canal, but there are no headstone to see

I love this trail! Great for running and cycling. Always very calm, but sometimes it's possible to meet someone along the way.

Excellent place for a bike ride on a 90+ degree day. There was plenty of shade and the canal helped make the heat tolerable. Also all of the section from the manville causeway to landing lane is covered with well packed small red rocks. There a few stone block retaining walls that the path runs over.

Beautiful. I would love to go back, spend more time and, of course, take more pictures.

A good bike ride and safer way to get a bike to Princeton or Trenton than riding on the road. If you have kids, beware that every other plant on this path is poison ivy, so show it to them and tell them not to touch it. Good vibe on this path.

The water is still running high. A pile of debris piled up above the Raritan. Landing Lane Bridge is closed and under construction behind me.

Great trail! Just wanted to warn other hikers to be aware of yellow jacket hornets nest in the ground. My partner and I walked across one unknowingly and got stung multiple times. While running away I tripped and fell and got badly hurt. This was near the Riverview Guest house on the trail.

I am yet to visit, but the idea of 77 mile trail being so close to Edison and so accessible makes me happy. The parking was plenty and the pictures in Google map are enticing. Even if not all 77 miles, I will surely do the good portions mentioned in Wikipedia

My go to place for a quick walk, nice bike ride. D&R canal is a very easy trail with beautiful scenery.. Keep in mind this trail was a canal tow path, so it's flat and straight, not strenuous at all. Best to hike or bike ride during the weekdays (particularly in the morning) when the park is less crowded.

This trail is one of the true gems, in central Jersey. It starts around the border of New Brunswick and Franklin Township, goes all the way up along the eastern border of Franklin, then along the eastern border of South Bound Brook, then back along the northern border of Franklin, then touches the southeastern tip of Manville, then all the way down the western border of Franklin and on into Princeton. The whole time it is along the edge of the canal, and between the canal and a river (first the Raritan, then the Millstone River, one of the tributaries of the Raritan). And it stretches (not retches) along for TWENTY MILES, through some of the most scenic and beautiful areas left, in central Jersey, frequently even isolated wooded areas (sooo nice). Maybe you don't like walking or biking for long distances, but I do, and I can hardly think of a better place-around here-in which to do it (perhaps Washington Valley Park, but that requires a car to get to it often, and I don't have one anymore). And this Trail is so accessible from so many parts of central Jersey, and you don't have to walk all of it, just the part nearest to where you are (think of it like a beautiful, 20-mile-long park--although somewhat narrow). I give it 5 stars (maybe 10), unquestionably.

Beautiful trail that is rather long but very pleasant

Love going in the fall with the leaves changing

There is water on either side which is super nice

Some people take their bikes which can take up a lot of space since the trail isn't very large

Also tons of wild life

I used to ride this trail 20+ years ago as a RU student. It was one of the best trails for a day ride.
