Very spacious and nice campground! The bathrooms were nice and it a far walk from where we were staying, I’d highly recommend getting a campsite here.

Nice, clean, spacious sites and quiet! Not far from other hiking and swim areas, and local stores if you forgot something.

Did some moto camping here with a friend while we were doing the wisconsin adventure trail on dual sports. Nice campground, good price and close to stores.

Super shaded, friendly, hidden gem of a campground with limited electric sites. Plenty of activities nearby or enjoy the hiking trail and bike trail right on the grounds. We went tubing out of Lost Falls Campground which was a very pleasant float for 4 hours. Wazee Lake is another nice place to visit nearby. Thanks for a great experience! ♡♡

Our family enjoyed staying at Castle Mound in late Sept. I think that helped control mosquitos. The trails were awesome and stroller (hiking stroller) friendly. The bathrooms were well maintained. Pet friendly for the most part. Other hiking trails with in driving distance too and worth the trip!! We would definitely return.

The staff at the main office at the Castle Mound Campground are friendly and helpful regardless of where you may be camping or recreating.

I frequently camp with my paddling groups at Castle Mound prior to paddling the Black River. The sites are well laid out, and if you reserve sites 12, 13, or 35, you are closest to both the outhouses and the wood house. Racks of wood are available for $3. Just load up the handy rack located next to the shelter, and deposit your $3 in the collection box. Each site has a fire ring with a cantilever grill grate. Be sure to bring some aluminum foil if you want to cook right on the grate! The showers located near the main office are fairly clean and easy to use compared to those at many other state parks. They have a good potable and non-potable water station you can hit on your way out for the day's activities.

If you're in the area and the timing is right, stop in at the Ho-Chunk Pow Wow which takes place on the northwest edge of the State Forest. It's quite an experience, and the announcer is hilarious:

"We're doing the same thing tomorrow. The same... damn... thing."

Hidden gem. Camped here with just a tent on an electric site. I've stayed at a few parks this summer and castle mound was by far the best kept and cleanest facilities. The showers were an absolute dream. We hiked more toward the pigeon creek campgrounds but still saw the rock formations on site and cooked over the firepit. Campsites are nicely spaced out and the starry sky here is a 10/10!! Thanks for a great experience!

Surprisingly cool hiking trail. It's actually a pretty steep climb but you can't even see the rocky outcropping until you get close due to the thick trees. We visited in September so the view was quite obscured by foliage, but I'd bet it has an interesting view in late fall or winter. Don't be tempted to go off trail! We found out the hard way the forest is full of thorn bushes. It's worth it to stop here even for an hour.
