An outstanding BBQ pork sandwich. The sauce seems to be a vinegar/mustard based sauce and doesn't overpower the smoked (oak) pork. The Brunswick Stew is great, too - full of vegetables and potato. It's been years since I've been and it's just as good as I remember it was

This is my first time eating at Vandy's with friends. The Pulled Pork sandwich and Potato Salad were delicious. Our order was to go. The staff was friendly and the atmosphere was clean.

The BBQ is great, sauce is solid, and potato salad satisfying. However, the best part to me is the Brunswick stew. Great deal for a small plate. Recommend coming to the original over the mall location.

Statesboro is my home town and every chance I get. I go back to get the traditional barbecue. I love most any BBQ but this is what I was raised on. I eat here as a child in the 60s. My father eat here during the great depression of 1929. This restaurant was founded like a lot of old BBQ restaurants that had to take the cheapest cut of meat and put a lot of labor in it. I cook BBQ for my friends and family and this is my goal. This is the best BBQ IN WORLD.

I've been going to Vandy's since I was a small child. It's one of our family's favorite spots. Great BBQ and sweet tea! Although the Brunswick stew isn't the original it's still good.

My Great-Grandma, Grandma, Mother, and myself and all of my South Georgia family and beyond have been patrons of Vandy's since they began. I have shared a table with many friends and family members for a variety of holidays, family reunions, or just a weekday lunch. Since moving away from the area in 2001, I have made a point to visit every chance I can. I have moved from South GA to Augusta to Florida all the way up to Western NC and traveled near and far around this country trying to find that Vandy's flavor again, but NOTHING compares to the original. Each time I make my BBQ pilgrimage to Statesboro, I take (at least) a couple pounds of BBQ and a gallon of Brunswick Stew (the best in the world) home, to not only feed my hunger but to feed my soul. My wish for this South Georgia Icon is to never go out of business, because to me; Vandy's BBQ is more than just a restaurant. The old screen door creaking open to the building on Vine holds special memories of family members since passed. The smells of the pit and sounds of chopping BBQ reminds me of conversations, laughter, and even tears shared over a cold cup of Sweet Tea and slices of Sunbeam bread. I believe this is a perfect example of what sets Southern cooking apart from any other region, because without the feelings of nostalgia attached to each delicious bite....it's just food.

The bbq at Vandy's is cooked daily in their smoke pit. The sounds of Vandy's (meat chopping) is still the same sound I've heard for over 30 years. Not much has changed. So excited to get to join them on their new patio/porch for live entertainment one Friday.

I love Vandy's! You would never expect such great food to come from such a hidden little building. Breakfast here will change your life. If you bring your appetite and are a carnivore the Vandy's omelette is sure to please. If you are in a rush this place will slow you down. The food is amazing and the service is exceptional. The sweet tea is amazing and this will soon become a favorite destination! They have been here since 1929 so they mist be doing something right.

They were out of the rib special !! Disappointment! But the pulled pork plate was delish. Pieces of the bark were mixed with moist tender pulled pork. Excellent Brunswick stew and French fries cooked just the way I like them. The downtown location is an old building so don't expect shiny and immaculate. However, if you like authentic open Pit BBQ Vandy's is the place.

Vandy's has been around for at least as long as my dad was a young boy back in the 40's! It's one of my favorite places to eat. Hands down, they have the best BBQ & Brunswick stew. Their coleslaw is a favorite at our annual family reunions, and their potato salad is absolutely delicious! If you want atmosphere, go after the lunch crowd has thinned out and the regulars come in to sit for a while and chat. You may have to wait a bit to get waited on, but rest assured, the meal will be worth it!

If you're a first time visitor, don't be deceived before walking in. This great little establishment is in a small concrete building but plenty of space to sit down for a southern BBQ meal. The food is great so check it out if you're in the area. That's certainly what I did today. Thanks, Janelle, for the great service!

I had the large BBQ sandwich on light bread (sandwich bread)
It was served quickly and was as good as I remembered.
Gin was the server and was friendly, efficient and helpful.

I have always liked Vandy's. They are a staple here in Statesboro. If ever in Statesboro I would invite you to try them out.

Vandy's is exactly what a good barbecue joint should be: linoleum floors, old wood paneling for walls, and formica tables with vinyl chairs, all of which have been there long enough to soak up the heavenly smell that can only be produced by real wood pouring real smoke into quality pork on the same real outdoor barbecue pit for at least 50 or 60 years. My father introduced me to Vandy's on West Vine Street on a visit to Statesboro 45 years ago. It hasn't changed a bit since. I hope it never does. Just walking in the place makes the stomach of any real barbecue lover growl in lusty anticipation. And then the payoff arrives. The chopped pork is lean, moist, smoky and tender, and served with slices of white bread on the side. The sauce is unique and perfectly complements the meat without overpowering it. Not sweet, but not too spicy or vinegary either. And the Brunswick Stew is the best on the planet, especially when you spoon some extra chopped pork into the stew as you go. Order a large chopped pork plate with double stew. You won't be disappointed, and if you're like me, you may even order another plate just like it before you leave. As far as I'm concerned, Vandy's is barbecue heaven. In fact, if they'd let me, I'd choose to have myself cremated when I die and tell my family to scatter my ashes near Vandy's pit, just on the off chance that my spirit might be able to smell that pork cooking for all eternity.

The experience at this Vandy's is vastly superior to the poor excuse for a restaurant in the mall. The first thing you will notice is the wonderful smell frim the smokehouse out back, and it only get better. Thouh it may look like a dive, it has real southern barbecue brought to by a staff that knows and loves barbecue. If you want real barbecue. You go here.
