Southern Roots does it right with flavorful food, a warm atmosphere, and friendly service. Their cheesy butternut squash side dish is like nothing I have ever tasted -- incredibly rich and just to die for, honestly.

My only complaint was that the oven alarms in the open kitchen were very loud where I was sitting.

This place is a wonderful dining experience. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, the service is prompt and courteous, and the food is delicious and varied. They always have special dishes that surprise and delight us. It is a very popular place among the locals, so be prepared to call in advance to check on seating status, especially on weekends or during the furniture market season. The only downside is that parking can fill up fast and require you to park further away, so plan accordingly. We highly recommend this place if you can get a table.

Enjoyed my time here with my loved ones. We decided to have dinner here and since the weather was alright we sat outside and had the heater on. The food and dessert were delicious. We also had great customer service.

What’s not to like with this restaurant? We had pasta, shrimp, burgers and risotto- all were wonderful. Service is upbeat and casual. Place is a bit loud and full of life. Loved it! If you want great food - look no further- stop in. My food baby is very happy!

This is specifically for Southern Roots catering, not the actual restaurant. The catering team did our daughter's evening wedding in Summerfield with 105 guests. Choosing a caterer was something we agonized over, both before and after the decision. Southern Roots really delivered on all counts, and in some pretty bad weather at an outdoor venue. So many of the guests commented on how good the food was and the team on site were very friendly and helpful. They really did an excellent job on taste, quality and delivery. We tried everything on the buffet table ourselves - stuffed chicken, shrimp and grits, spaghetti squash, collards, bread and side salad. We missed the appetizers but heard good things about those, including one with pimento cheese. We made/brought our own cake/desserts which the team sliced and served for us. We can certainly recommend Southern Roots catering!!!

My fried catfish was good. The sweet potato casserole and garlic spinach were perfect! My hubby said his shrimp and grits here tasted good, but he prefers a version with sausage and green onions. His brussel sprouts were very delicious! My friend's skirt steak and fried eggplant were very good, she said. Also, the appetizer of fried oysters was nice with Sriracha aioli and bacon vinaigrette for dipping. I asked for the aioli to use for my catfish instead of the sauce that came with it. Good sized lunch portions, and I even had leftovers to bring home. Our server was knowledgeable and pleasant. Will definitely come here again probably for dinner so we can have even more options.

Truly a gem! Our first visit here was very satisfying. The food was fresh, plentiful
and fantastic! The service was friendly and responsive, yet a bit rushed. The atmosphere is casual and comfortable, although somewhat noisy.

I loved the place. Very good customer service and the food, after being good, was served very quickly. The prices are cheap and at sunset the atmosphere feels very good around friendly people. I highly recommend it! The warm gouda pimento cheese is the best.

Im certain I’ll be back. I had the shrimp and grits, it’s in the top 10 I’ve had across the US; the grits are made with cheese. Atmosphere was nice and the staff was friendly. Parking is small but there are lots of nearby places. Cocktail menu was curated well and the blueberry old fashioned was delicious.

Southern Roots puts downtown Jamestown on the map.....period. This restaurant has always been the talk of the town for its excellent food and great customer service. I was there last week for a meeting and this restaurant did not disappoint. It has a very energetic vibe going even during lunch and always busy. You can feel the buzz. So if you are looking for a quite dinner....this is not the place for you. The ambience is modern and chic. The entrance to the restaurant is from the back of the building rather than from the front main street.
Unfortunately the parking is a struggle at this place like most downtown restaurants. They do have overflow parking in the back and the walk is barely a minute or so. However during busy evenings, it could also be further away. However that should not deter anyone from trying this gem.

Fantastic, friendly service and amazing food! They have a large amount of outdoor seating that is also very nice.

Love it the chicken dish that I had the food was cooked perfectly. I would recommend the eggplant fries. No complaints at all. Plus the staff are great and friendly plus the restaurant is simple and easy to find. Plus our waitress Sarah was a fantastic server.

This place is a hidden gem 💎!! The service and food were amazing. Our server, Hannah H, was attentive and kind. Happy Birthday, Hannah. We ordered the catfish. I had the lunch portion with mashed sweet potatoes and coy okra. My son had the dinner portion with fried brussels sprouts and fries. We spent under $50 including tip.

Food is always amazing - doesn't matter what you get! The cocktail and wine list are impressive as well.

We stopped in for lunch today and I was blown away by the flavors of their Foods! We had fried green tomatoes with pimento cheese as an appetizer and I had the seafood risotto. Everything was amazing!

My husband and I loved the quaint, casual atmosphere and the fun, 60’s-70’s classic music. The outside patio looks beautiful, but we got an inside table sooner so we will try that next visit. My hand-breaded cornbread catfish was just perfect: crispy, hot, tender on the inside, and the fried green tomatoes with the pimento cheese provided an almost spiritual culinary experience! We can’t wait to return! I should also mention that we enjoyed the classic music quotes in the restrooms, along with the sweet neighborhood kitty next door! 😻

A great southern restaurant! Everyone from the hostess to our waiter were attentive and welcoming. geez, think our waiter check in on us at least 5 to 6 times. Great service! And the food was awesome. The Wife had fried catfish, which was so big I thought it was a fried chicken breast. I had a med-rare tenderloin filet, which melted in my mouth. If you do go, which I recommend you do, go early as parking is limited. We went on a Tuesday at 5pm, and by the time we left it was already packed.

We had been in town furniture shopping and were looking for an early dinner before we headed home. Southern Roots was amazing. The atmosphere and ambience was great kind of a chic beach theme going. Our server was great she was very attentive and helpful. When my wife was having trouble choosing between 2 wines she brought her samples of each to help.
My wife had a glass of wine and I had a spiced Manhattan that was on their drink specials. The Manhattan was great best one I had had in a long time. Bartender was nice enough to show me what she used so I could replicate at home.
We had a rosemary half loaf for an appetizer and it was very good not overpowering but the bread and the rosemary butter complimented each other.
We stuck with sandwiches we had a steak and cheese wrap and the billy bob sandwich. Fries for one side and cole slaw for the other. Everything was delicious and well prepared. Fries were solid and the Cole slow was a mayo base and alot of liquid which we like. The billy bob has a Fried green tomato, gouda pimento cheese and bacon. It was really good. If I came back I would have a burger with the Gouda Pimento cheese because I loved that and think it would compliment it well.
Loved the visit and dinner and will definitely be back when we are in the area. Everything we saw coming out of the kitchen looked great and we now have a number of other items we are looking forward to trying.
