Superior Fly Angler

Had to take a little detour into Superior to replace a pair of waders. Place had good prices, the guy who helped me was a wealth of information...then another customer joined in the conversation. Totally just learned when the Steelhead start running. I was up there during the Hex hatch so I stocked up on some good Hex patterns. They got pretty chewed up by the end of my trip. Hopefully that pattern will add on another inch to the size. I got a few really good rises at dawn on those and hooked into a lot more. Most were small, lost a few better size ones but had an awesome time. Good pattern...thanks dude.

Matt and his crew are all top notch. Great selection of gear, great prices, and knowledgeable staff. Always willing to help with info on local water from the North Shore to the Brule, and beyond. Even helped me get some stuff together on short notice, for a trip out West on the N. Platte. Highly recommended!

Great Fly Shop, been going their since they opened in 1997. Great selection of rods, reels, waders, tying materials and more. Great stop for up to the minute local river conditions too.

Great Montana style Flyshop right here in Duluth/Superior. I looked at buying Simms waders online and the prices were the same at Superior Fly Angler. I have a favorite fly I used out west that nobody had heard of here and these guys took my last fly and made a dozen next day. Great selection of high end and cheaper entry level stuff too.

Always great experience, the staff can help you find what you are looking or answer any questions. They sell quality products Simms, reddington, Sage, Rio, and Opst products. They have a large selection of flies from dry to musky steamers. Always my go to fly shop in the twinports area.

This past summer Matt recommended a Redington Vice, 10 ft., 7 wt. and I paired that with one of his last Cimarron II, Ross Reels. Matt also recommended I select the Scientific Angler, Frequency, Magnum line for streamer fishing and steelhead fishing. His recommendations have not disappointed me. Fishing has been excellent this summer and it has taken no time to dramatically improve my casting of weighted streamers.

I also use a sinking line set up with unweighted streamers and it's so much easier to get the roll casts that I've been hoping for. It's no problem to reach the other side of the Brule and other streams I've been fishing in Northern WI.

I've also been using the extra reach of the 10 ft. rod as aset up for nymphing steelhead. It helps so much to keep the line off the water. Previous years I used my 9 ft. 5 wt which was no problem because I never caught a steelhead with that setup. The advice I received from Matt and the guys at the shop paid off this Fall along with the Redington Vice. It has taken me an average of over 10 minutes to bring Steelhead to the net and the 7 wt. Vice is a much better rod than my 5 wt. for bringing in fish that are over 20 inches.

Attended the 2019 fly tying classes, the different instructors have been great teachers. All the tying materials are right there in the store and reasonably priced.

I'm looking forward to next week's open house and the products that will be available.

Top of the line fly shop. Just like Fleet Farm.. If the Superior Fly Angler doesn't have it, you don't need it. Very knowledgeable of local area Trout Streams and what to use.
