Smokin Coop BBQ Pit

While we travel the country we have the opportunity to visit many wonderful places & their local restraunts.  Smokin Coop BBQ Pit has to be one if the best BBQ places we've been to so far.  The food is exceptional, service is great and the atmosphere was fun!  We will be definitely be added this to our travel page for the area.

Great food and an awesome experience. This is a no thrills BBQ joint. We had pulled pork and a club sandwich with a side of Mac and cheese. Pork and sandwich had great flavor. Turkey in the sandwich was incredible. Mac and cheese were great. Not your traditional Mac and cheese. You can tell homemade. I forgot to mention had cherry pie too. That was very good too! Ate that before the pics it was so good. Plenty of seating and parking. Seating is outdoors but most of it is covered. Great place we will be back!!

Thats an excellent place for summer lunch or dinner. Amazing atmosphere, the corn field on side of the restaurant gives that farm vibe which you want to get away from busy city life and enjoy the meal in nature...

And the food...its top notch. Quality and quantity both for very reasonable prices.
Services are great, doesnt take long for your order and servers are very nice.

Its a must visit place in summer and enjoy the lunch on weekends. Great place.👍🏻

Left Rockford area in 2016 and this was the best place back then. Returned 7/23/2023 and had a family gathering there. The food is still the best and Jim is still sitting in the rocking chair. One of the few things I miss about Illinois. AL

I moved from Georgia to Wisconsin a year ago, and really have been missing good non-chain BBQ. I found out about this place by an acquaintance who suggested that I come by when I was in the area. I sure am glad I did.

Portions were good, and the prices fair. Sides of slaw and beans were healthy and food was served at a good temperature. Only thing lacking is for is a few more sides to choose from for variety like black eyed peas, green beans or fries. The ambience of the recent expansion gave some reprieve from direct sunlight, and a nice cross-breeze kept the bugs at bay. Topped off my lunch with a piece of apple pie that was delicious, made me wish I had a scoop of vanilla ice-cream!

Definitely will be back if I am in the area, and might make the 3 hour drive on a whim in the future if I get a hankering for good BBQ!

So I haven’t been there since 2017 and I’m kinda sad about that but going there today was amazing! Hands down this is the best food I’ve ever had since living in Rockford nobody compares 💯

So I've driven past this place several times and decided to stop for an early dinner today. So glad I finally tried it. I had the half rack of ribs and they were perfect. Fall off the bone and nice flavor. My wife had the brisket combo dinner and she liked that. Plenty of food. Outside dining, blue grass music, perfect summer day. Nice experience.

I had the best loaded potato here. I just wish they had a larger variety of barbeque sauces.

Already looking forward to going back. The food was so fresh and simple and real! Wish it was closer to us (crystal lake) because getting real, quality, simple food isn’t easy and let’s face it cooking from scratch every day with a family isn’t easy. Tastes deliciously homemade… and eating outside. What could be better on a beautiful cool summer afternoon. We all had a such a special time making a memory eating here this afternoon.

Place open May to October. Very good ribs. Homemade pie was delish. Ribs were melting in your mouth! Very affordable prices. Thank you for business!

From start to finish the service was very friendly and great. The food was absolutely delicious! The brisket was so juice and tender, so full of flavor. The Mac and cheese was creamy and delicious. The pork and beans were also very flavorful and delicious! Absolutely can't wait to go back!

Fantastic food and pole barn decor. All food our group had was great! Ribs were the best!! Yummy Mac n cheese. Nice people!! Lots of space, brand new beepers when your food is ready. Very clean space, tons of parking... Nice drive thru. Can't wait to go back!!

Daughter and I stopped for lunch. I had the Brisket sandwich and she had a chicken sandwich. It was just as good as I remembered it from the 1st time I stopped in 2017. I stop by every time I'm in the area and I'm never disappointed.

Once again this is my #1 place for ribs, chicken or brisket! High quality food and family style service. Highly recommended.

Smokin Coop is amazing. I know it may not look like much but the food is legit. As soon as you get near Smokin Coop you can smell the smoky meats, it is intoxicating! Make sure you bring cash as they accept only cash. Try to rack of ribs or the bbq pulled pork sandwich. One try and you will be hooked. Cannot wait for them to open for the season in April. We are counting the days.

It's like visiting your relatives at a wonderful family reunion. Out in a park with phenomenal ribs and sides, ample parking and picnic tables. Masks required, order, park, food delivered, then drive to where you want to park and eat. Can't wait to go back!

Fantastic lunch, definitely worth stopping for when in the area. The ribs were the perfect consistency, they held together but also came right off the bone. Coleslaw is also a must, it's not overly sweet. Potato salad was also very good. Probably can't go wrong with anything here! Will definitely be back

This place has the very best BBQ around!!!! They are only seasonal though. I wish they had a permanent building to be open year round. Even my friends come out from the suburbs to eat here.

The loaded potato has cheese, sour cream, and a VERY generous helping of pulled pork. Definitely enough to be an entree by itself. The brisket was pull-apart tender. Cornbread was ideal by itself or dipping in that brisket juice. The porkchop sandwich is a very good sized porkchop on a bun and there are several condiments to top it with, though we just had some of the Coop's BBQ sauce and a few peperoncinis on the side. I thought it'd be hard to eat because of the size, but the meat was exactly the right amount of tender. We followed the meals up with a couple slices of classic Apple and cherry pie. Very enjoyable! The staff were very friendly.

The seating is outdoors, mostly picnic tables. There are a few tables with stools. The area is covered by a shelter with more tables under an awning. It started raining while we were there and it wasn't uncomfortable. Fun for the kids who were watching the little birds and played on the tire swing just before we left.

Great food. Fun experience. We'll definitely be back.

I stopped in because I was passing by and I have never eaten here before. I ordered the brisket dinner and was pleasantly surprised how delicious it was. Looking forward to my next meal here.
