We didn’t know we should have gotten our tickets in advance because there was a wait of about an hour to take the tour so we will be going back for the tour. The gift shop is very nice and we were able to grab some really nice Motown items before we left! Lots of history here and definitely will be coming back to get the full experience. All the employees there were very nice and helpful!

“Motown was about music for all people - white and black, blue and green, cops and the robbers. I was reluctant to have our music alienate anyone.” - Berry Gordy
The heart of rock n roll started beating here in Detroit Michigan. The museum puts guests into the groove of the formative days of where Motown began. The staff is wonderful, knowledgeable and friendly. Make sure you order tickets in advance for the guided tour. An expansion is coming in 2025!

We did the Motown Museum tour today ( 4 Jan 24) and it was incredible. The tour guide was knowledgeable and courteous and the artifacts from such an important and iconic location are presented in a perfect manner. From the introductory video to the time you get to spend in the iconic recording studio, you can't help but feel like you're part of history. If you're a fan of Motown music, this is a must visit, top of the bucket list thing to do. I can't wait until the expansion is completed.

First time in Detroit and visited the Motown Museum. This was one of the highlights of the trip. Learning about the history of music legends and was fascinating! How the world was changed from this location and it’s humble beginnings. This is true black history excellence!! We are standing on the shoulders of giants. Glad we had an opportunity to visit now and looking forward to returning when the multimillion dollar renovation is completed. We purchased our tickets at the door (student, senior and military discounts offered). There is a gift shop on site and the guided tour is efficient and completed in about one hour (60 minutes). Our tour guide was very lively and engaging. I will give him 10 stars! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I've lived in Detroit most of my life and have never been. I was so excited to go. It didn't disappoint, it was smaller than I expected but I can't wait til the new building is erected. I'll definitely be back. I was so excited to see Michael Jackson's hat and jeweled glove.

Incredible, once-in-a-lifetime experience. We were lucky enough to score the last four tickets on a Saturday. If you can, purchase your tickets ahead of time to ensure you secure a spot. The only way to experience the museum is through a guided tour so if you don’t have tickets, you’ll only be able to check out the gift shop. Our tour guide, Monet, was perfect. Friendly, knowledgeable, kind, and even able to crack a smile after a long day of saying the same thing over and over again. The sites and sounds alone are worth any wait you endure or any distance you travel!

Would highly recommend visiting the Motown Museum if you get the chance. There is so much history and music to absorb! A lot of the museum has been left how it was when it was a recording studio. We had a great tour guide, Tyra, who made the tour fun and informational. You can't freely walk around the museum, you need to be a part of a tour so it is recommended that you book a ticket in advance online if you can so they don't run out of spots. Make sure you give yourself extra time for parking, there is mostly street parking available.

You can’t go to Detroit and not to the Motown Museum! There’s really nothing like it, from the exuding creative energy, the history, and all the really informative tour guides. The tour is entertaining and you’ll leave listening to Motown in a new way. I’ll definitely be back for the expansion.

This wasn't a planned stop on our trip, but so glad we did it! This small museum is filled with so much history from some of the greatest artists. There are plans to expand the museum in a couple of years, however, I'm so glad we got to experience this one. Our tour guide was fantastic, knowledgeable and fun! We learned about the birth of "Motown," and stood where so many well-renowned artists created some of their biggest hits. We lucked out with getting tickets upon our arrival, but I would recommend buying in advance, since the place was full.

Lifelong goal fulfilled and surpassed! The museum took me back to when I was growing up, the state of the world, goals, dreams, and the music that formed me.
❤, loved, 😍 it.
People were visiting from other countries and here I was a local who had never been. It's worth the time and money; the tour guides are worth a million.
The only improvement that could be made would be secure parking, but maybe that will be added with the improvements that are planned.
Well done! 🎶💞🎶❤

A gem in Detroit. My first time visiting. They share lots of great motown history. Very enthusiastic tour guide. You must purchase tickets in advance, and the only allow guided tours. Very reasonably priced. We spent about 1.5 hours including time in the gift shop and for outside pictures in nice weather. Could have done it in an hour if we cut out browsing time at the end.

Well, well, well! I don't even know where to begin! But what I could say is A TIME WAS HAD!!!! If you haven't been GO! I've been wanting to go for many, many years. And I finally hopped on a plane from Chicago to Detroit. And I have absolutely no regrets I'm glad I finally did. I plan on coming back many, many times again. I learned so much from Stevie Wonder on down to Boys to men. The music and vibe make you wanna cry happy tears that's how much you feel it. The staff are really warm and welcoming. You can take all the photos you want....as you can see I did! But they do ask that you do no video recording. It was amazing that this place look exactly as it does on the movies. If you go be sure to pick up something from they gift shop as well. Until we meet again Motown 😘.

Great museum with knowledgeable, passionate staff. Stunning amount of authentic artifacts, and you can feel the history in every facet of the tour.

Speaking of which, you have to go on a tour - it's not a museum to wander around in. So pre-book to save time!

Call ahead of time to secure your tickets. We planned on just taking pictures outside of The Motown Museum because all the tours was sold out. Never hurt to ask so we did, and the staff was able to fit us in. Great Customer Service, Real Music, Rich History, Great Experience. Whether you're a fan of Motown or appreciate great music, visiting the Motown Museum is a must-do. Enter Raw talent and leave with hits 🎙💽

If you're a music fan in the Metro Detroit area, and you've never been to the Motown museum, your life sucks. So much incredible history happened here. If you can find me another basement in America where a 110 top 10 hits were produced in less than 10 years, I'll buy you lunch. You've got to come stand in the studio where the Temptations and The Supremes and the Jackson 5 and Stevie Wonder recorded the songs that turned them into icons. It was thrilling to learn more about Barry Gordy's philosophy and approach to running an independent record label, from starting out with only $800 and working out of his house to transforming kids on the street in Detroit into household names. Stop reading this and just go.

Brings back so many memories- the music makes you want to dance and sing. Learned some info I did not know. Tour guide was great, believe her name is Monique- she has a beautiful voice. Thank you for our free copy of Barry Gordy's autobiography, a wonderful surprise.

I've always wanted to visit the Motown Museum and finally got the chance! I didn't like the fact they don't allow photos or video inside during the tour. I recommend you buy your tickets in advance or you'll be waiting a long time to get inside. Tickets sell out fast!
