Great location close to W devon Ave and a plaza across the road. The room was clean and spacious. The front desk lady was very helpful, and the housekeeping staff kept it well throughout our stay. It's hard to find all this at such a low price. Other hotels are 3 times higher. 100% recommended and will stay again

The #1 pro: the nightly rate was about one-third of what you’ll pay for a similar-sized hotel room just a few miles east of here. The room is basic, clean and sufficient for a couple. Anyone who’s stayed in a non-luxury hotel in Manhattan would recognize this size of room and probably be envious.

You get a comfortable king bed, a small bathroom with a walk-in shower, a refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker, a 40-inch TV, two drawers, two nightstands and a table with two chairs. If you want more amenities, go a few miles east of here and good luck finding a hotel room for less than $200 a night.

It’s a small sink with no countertop space, but you can use the bed or the top of the cabinet that holds the microwave and fridge to spread out your stuff. No hair dryer and you only get two bath towels and a washcloth, but we made it work. Yes, the wallpaper is peeling a bit in a few spots, but it doesn’t look shabby. The carpeting is what you’d find in any hotel that was renovated about a decade ago.

No free breakfast, but nearby there's a Starbucks, Dunkin' and McDonald’s. It’s on a major street with lots of retail and frequent bus service. We never felt unsafe at this location.

The free hotel parking is limited but there’s adjacent free street parking. If you’re driving, it’s about 15 minutes to Lake Shore Drive and 20-25 minutes to the Loop.

A few cons: the satellite TV service to the rooms is crippled by random but frequent freezing of the picture. Bring your laptop or tablet if you want to watch something without throwing things at a screen. And you can’t hook up a streaming player directly to the TV because using the free WiFi requires a login on a web page.

Another knock: the light over the sink in the bathroom is on a motion sensor and cannot be manually shut off. It’s blindingly bright whenever you walk into the bathroom, and that’s not good when using the toilet at night.

Our $2.50 solution was a plug-in nightlight near the sink and applying a four-inch piece of electrical tape over the motion sensor on the light. This disables it but there are two other lights and a fan on the switch in the bathroom.

If you need the light over the sink you can peel back that tape and re-apply it after you’re done. Bring your own or pick up a nightlight and electrical tape at the Dollar Tree that’s a quarter-mile away on that major street.

We’ve been driving to Chicago every summer for seven years to visit with family that live in a North Side one-bedroom apartment and we never paid less than $175 a night for an Airbnb or VRBO. Three nights here (Thursday/Friday/Saturday) with tax was about $220, leaving us more to spend on shopping, food and drink. We’ll be back.

We took an impromptu trip to Chicago and booked this place for just over $70 a night. We were in a safe location, it was easy to get around Chicago and really not that far from downtown, and everything was clean and comfortable. People were complaining about the scratchy towels, so we brought our own. Others were saying the water pressure in the shower wasn't great, and it wasn't, but y'all - we paid $70 a night to stay in a hotel in Chicago that was comfortable and safe. It gets 5 stars. You get what you pay for, and this place gave us the best basic comfort and amenities we could've asked for for the price we paid.

This place had a lot of value for us during our stay. The location is great! I can do remote work at nearby Panera Bread & Starbucks, laundry is within walking distance with more shopping and food options nearby. Public transport is decent with busses such as 82, 84, and 11 from which you can take brown line to the loop. All of these for a decent rate around 70-80ish. Unfortunately, our room, while generally clean, had a few minor issues. The shower drain drained slowly and the bathroom at night had a smoking smell coming from our neighboring rooms. Our room door was loose and rickety and would shake at the slight outside disturbance (making it seem like someone was trying to break in). Lastly, the power cut out during the first night of our stay early in the morning which was very odd.

Very clean and located in a quiet neighborhood; shopping center and restaurants right around the corner; worth every penny 😀

Very helpful staff. They were unable to help me with keeping my bags until i could check in (guessing liability issues). But once we checked in the room was clean and everything i needed to be able to explore Chicago for a few days! Would definitely come back. Might just plan to arrive after check in time.

Great place nice small rooms.
Parking is awesome right outside your room.
They do not have anything (besides shampoo and soap) so make sure you have your basic stuff.
The cable is great but the TV was weirdly located?
I have no complaints besides what I've written.
Nice small place to consider.

Personally, I am not concerned with the exterior of buildings, however some people may judge a book by it's cover and decide against staying at this Rodeway Inn due to the outside infrastructure. I was very pleasantly surprised upon walking in and seeing the hotel in pristine condition.
There were a few things I would have tweaked, but I still would not rate the hotel any less than perfect despite these minor flaws. I was a housekeeper at a 5 star hotel for a long period of time, so perhaps I notice things that others wouldn't.
My first suggestion is the speed at check in. I had driven for 5+ hours upon arriving at the hotel, which left me hungry, tired and in need of a restroom. I am used to hotel check ins being a quick in and out process, but found myself standing in the lobby of this hotel for almost 15 minutes.
I was very satisfied with the cleanliness of the room, but for others the little things might add up. I checked in on Thursday, so Friday morning I decided to use the coffee station that is provided in the room. I took a pack of coffee out of its package and went to put it in the maker to brew only to discover an old coffee filter had been left behind. I had no problem tossing it, but others might.
I typically try to leave my housekeeper with as little to do as possible upon checking out. I checked out Saturday morning, but only after collecting my trash, my towels, and my linens. I am used to hotels keeping their comforters on a rotating wash cycle, so I already know to bring my own blanket. However, after stripping the rest of the bedding that I did use, I found the mattress cover to be unsanitary. I didn't take the time to inspect it, but there were different spots that stood out on the cover as well as a multiple hairs strewn about. Again, I am not personally concerned with the cleanliness of the mattress cover, but someone who is there to inspect it would be.
Overall, I would rate my stay as 5 stars, A+, 100% satisfied...
I really appreciate the effort the hotel staff has put in to making this hotel beautiful from the inside out and I couldn't ask for more for the price.

Stay was short and nice. Staff was good. Read some comments from others and was skeptical, but I went ahead and book the room. It was nice and cant beat the price. Offcourse you’re not booking Marriot / Hilton so those saying it was this and that, those should pay $400 and stay in fancy hotel. This place is decent, reasonable, clean and close to beach, Starbucks, Panera, Devon Avenue (desi st). Would definitely book again.

It's honestly underrated truly! Clean; not an inch of my favorite 2 rooms,"( A:21 and D:21) both located on the 2nd floor with King Beds", hasn't been scoured to, comfortably, clamniess, and clean. Check-in, Close the door and Catch up on a good night's rest! Newly refurbished feel, basic, with everything you need inside or less than 500 feet nearby!

I was expecting to be underwhelmed by this hotel with its mixed reviews and really low rates but when we opened the door to our room I was pleasantly surprised. Amazing room and the bathroom was spic and span! Will definitely stay here on our next trip to Chicago!
