Midtown Shangri-La

Fun spot to try a variety of different dishes. They have dim sum, sushi, other Chinese entries including classics and curries. There is also a bar with cocktails and a small beer and wine list. Service was very friendly and quick. Food came out in waves as it was prepared and the portions and quality were nice. I would recommend stopping in and giving it a try.

Midtown Shangri-La is a culinary gem in Detroit, offering an extraordinary Chinese dining experience.
Wanted to try a new place for lunch in downtown. Luckily we went to this right place.
Lots of things offered on menu.
We had different combinations platter - General Chicken, Sesame Chicken, Kung Po Chicken and Shrimp with vegetables.. Comes with Spring roll and Fried Rice. Great taste with right portion.
Loved the sauce offered.
Service was quick and friendly.
All worth it!!

One of the best places in Detroit. Service amazing. Food great. Can’t wait to see what happens to this place. HUGE menu and nothing is a miss. Today I got beef and broccoli, MOST TENDER BEEF AND BROC IN DETROIT. Great sauce very homey love this place 💕

Could use bigger seating for dinner due to wait times. (Also no parking) But once your sat, no wait on food. Can’t complain about this place. Allll worth it

Not gunna lie, I don't know if I was extra hungry or what, but this place reallllly hit the spot! Everything was SO good! It did take a little time to get the food but it is well worth the wait. I recommend you pick a soup while you wait, they come with some of the chips to drop inside and you get an egg roll with some of the meals so they can bring that early. The service is also top-notch, you gotta check the place out!

Very pleasant surprise after a show at the Hillberry. We were just expecting typical Chinese takeout choices, but they also had dim sum and sushi menus! We tried a variety of the dim sum which came in so many shapes and sizes. Our favorites were the corn cake and the spicy squid. Great atmosphere and helpful staff. Very close to campus and all the midtown attractions. Paid parking right next door.

Excellent Chinese Restaurant, one of the best ones in midtown alongside the Peterbero. We ordered the Fried Squid which was excellent, the har go, mangolion beef and orange chicken. Dim sum is not prepackaged, made in house.

Food was delicious! Lives up to the “best Chinese in midtown” quo! Everything was satisfying and the service was amazing! Will definitely be coming back here upon revisiting the city! If you’re a veggie lover I recommend the lettuce wraps! Also the dim sum is awesome! So much fun and variety! Lots of yummy things to try!!! 10/10

The best pad see ew I have ever had! It had a generous amount of delectable, tender pieces of steak, and the black bean flavour was infused through the perfectly cooked noodles and crunchy Chinese broccoli. Service was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere / interior design were warm and charming with a good amount of natural light.
I wish I could come back and try more dishes—so much looked incredible as it went by me on plates. Alas, I don’t live in Detroit! :(

Dumplings & Dynamite Roll with a couple of other dishes. Delicious & great, friendly service.

Great food!!! They specialize in Chinese food but also offer Chinese-American, Japanese, and Thai options to cater to multiple palates.

Warning though, they are EXTREMELY protective of their staff, particularly their servers.

This place does NOT welcome non/bad tippers. Unless the server did something to wrong you, prepare to tip at least 10% or the manager will probably confront you about it and make everything awkward.

The servers usually bend over backwards to make sure you enjoy your meal, but they are only human.

DIM SUM FTW!!!!

I am from Philly out here for a conference and wanted some good Chinese food. Came across this gem and between the fast and efficient service and the food especially the sushi was to die for! You need to come here if you are in the area!

Great Chinese food. I've probably eaten lunch from here about once a month the last year.
Large pieces of chicken and good portions.
I enjoy the Generals chicken the most. Pictured is Almond Boneless chicken then red curry chicken.

Delicious, healthy food in a very nice atmosphere. Extremely clean including the bathrooms. Highly recommend.

My family has been going to Shangri-La for 5 years now.

The food is amazing, with generous servings, at solid pricing. I’ve sat countless times here for just a serving of tea. Gotten their minced beef egg white soup on days that the family feels under the weather. Eaten countless servings of their pad thai.

I am so thankful for this restaurant that is open rain or shine, with amazing and consistent service, that has become a staple of my life.

Dim sum was extremely good. We got a variety of buns, dumplings, veggies, seafood, ribs and more. Left full and happy. Definitely worth leaving city center to go to.

The quality of service here has never once failed to impress. And the place is always clean clean clean. The food is always fresh and the prices very reasonable. I trust this place to serve up the best Asian cuisine consistently and their sushi is FANTASTIC! Go check them out. You'll agree.

Great sushi and veggie soup! Eric and Rachel are the best... Busy place with a mini upstairs area. A midtown staple. My favorite sushi place, fresh, and the sushi rice is consistently soft and tasty 😋🤤

Went in for lunch. Had dim sum. Damn was it good. And my server was amazing. Attentive and very sweet. Love the atmosphere. Cozy and carried a real vibe. My new favorite spot in Detroit.
