Afternoon hike at Buttermilk Falls was a nice little hike and not challenging at all. found parking on grilbride at the chimney Rock park hawk watch. it's hit or miss if you actually get a spot. no parking on roadside so becareful since I've heard of police handing out tickets. You have to walk across the road to get onto trail for the falls although the trail is easy it's very rocky so wear appropriate shoewear. to get down by the falls/dam that was built in 1920 you have to do a little Rock scrambling.

It's a great park to visit. Available public restrooms. If you wa t adventure, this place is for you. It also has astronomical value. I am not sure what, but its pretty amazing. There is a nice reservoir nearby. Reccomended place.

We love this park. The trails are well maintained; clear, clean and wide. It's long enough but not too long. Beautiful views, good parking and a bathroom if you need it.

Chimney Rock Park is great for the avid hiker. The paths have a lot of stones, probably from the quarry near by. Loose rocks will make slip at any given time, so Watch where walk and walk cautiously. Other than that, it's a great hike.

Awesome trails for hiking and mountain biking. Temps were in the mid 50s so it was very pleasant.

Fun overall and good for beginner to intermediate riders. Great place for pinch flats. Come with the right gear or just be cautious. Lots of sharp edged rocks.

Quite an excellent township park that seamlessly rolls into the nearby county park, which share a common forest and river. Of course I love hiking on the mountain(s) in the nearby county park (Washington Valley Park, East), but the wooded trails, rolling hills, and "Alice-in-Wonderland"-type landscaped areas around the frisbee golf course are spectacular, with their short trees and shrubs, and fragrant smells, this time of year. Also, surrounding the Rose Garden at Colonial Park in Franklin Township is a similarly landscaped type of area, that is equally spectacular. But Chimney Rock Park in Bridgewater Township is just "unreal", it is so good. And I love the little foot bridges and foot walks put in by the Eagle Scouts, too--quite excellent. And then there's the flowing river nearby, Middle Brook. All in all, a wonderful experience with nature.

I've been having fun on the trails in the area before much of it was parkland, there are miles of beautiful paths with great seclusion and beautiful views. Beyond hiking or biking there is plenty to do from watching the numerous hawks fly through the gorge to trout and bass fishing along the east branch of the Raritan and the old reservoir behind buttermilk falls.

This park has it all! There is a playground to play at. A field with a small natural maze to play hide and seek or just explore a great variety of grasses and birds. You may also bring up a frisbee and enjoy playing frisbee golfing at the gently sloping grassy hills of the park. A park is a hawk watching spot - we saw at least two every time we're there. From a playground across the field, there's an entrance to hiking trails that are part of a Washington Valley Reservation. One of the trails ends at the stream with lots of wildlife - a great swim hole for kids and pets in summer. In winter, you may enjoy the ice rink and if you're lucky and got there after a snow, the hills of the field area are great to use for tobogganing.
We had never noticed any unpleasant smells at the park, and we are very frequent visitors. But, yes, you may see some deer scat since there are lots of resident deer at that area.

The property for this 24-acre park was purchased from Esther Loft in 1980 and was constructed in 1982. It is an excellent starting point for hiking and biking into Somerset County parklands to both the east and the west. The park is also called Washington Valley Park because it is located between Washington Valley Park and Washington Valley East Park.
The two most visited places of this area are located within Chimney Rock Park: Hawk Watch Area (with a view of quarry and Chimney Rock itself) and Buttermilk Waterfall.
