I went to Jake’s Main Street Music to buy a banjo and they were extremely helpful. They asked what I was looking for, picked out a handful of banjos that fit my description, and helped me find a good match. I’m extremely satisfied with the service I received and the banjo they helped me pick out!!! I will definitely return in the future for my banjo needs.

Great store to buy new or old guitars. Had the pleasure of meeting the owner and was very happy to hear about his enthusiasm regarding guitars. This is the kind of store I've been looking for! An absolutely lovely stock of folk instruments as well as a few electric basses and guitars. The staff is friendly and kind, and know exactly what to recommend. My wife picked up an absolutely beautiful and very affordable Gold Tone Mandolin today and it sounds and looks great.

As the told the guys, I proclaim this the best mandolin store in NJ. Not a typo, I drove an hour to be welcomed into the mandolin ROOM (let that sink in) demoed every mandolin I wanted and paid a very good price. Edited to correct original review; I saved 25 bucks over the online price at other shops. I’ll be back gentlemen, thank you both.

Very much appreciated the wisdom, patience, and kindness from Dave (store co-founder, with Jake). Brought in my Yamaha acoustic guitar for adjustment (with high action and other, self-inflicted issues), and when I picked it up later in the week, Dave thoroughly explained all the considerations behind what he had done.

The guitar definitely sounds better now. (I have confidence now that if my playing ever sounds poor, it's only me, and not my guitar!)

The top notch setups offset the brick and mortar markup. Every instrument I examined was superbly setup. Also, the people that work there seem like genuinely kind, community-minded folks.

Ordered a vintage guitar from them online in the midst of COVID-19 shelter-in-place orders. I corresponded with both owners by e-mail and talked with them on the phone. They were very helpful and responsive to my questions. Guitar arrived safely in a new well-sized case. Guitar is even more beautiful than in the high resolution online pictures. Guitar is vintage and its condition was well-described. An extra set of strings was included as well. So happy to work with this small business and would happily do so again.

The environment is warm and welcoming. It's as if anyone from any corner of the world and any level of musicianship has a second home here. Jake and David are extremely knowledgeable in their craft and would go beyond regular means to provide their customers a satisfactory experience!

Friendly, highly-capable and highly-knowledgeable. Got a guitar fixed, and learned about the luthier they partner with for violin-family instruments. So, the next time we brought in a violin, viola, and cello to get looked at. Great work on all the instruments! I swear they all sound better than ever!!
P.S. The sets of hand-carved spoons I found there are an unexpected delight!

This is a fantastic find of a music store. Large selection of instruments, both new and used. Vintage vinyl records. Exciting classes for various guitar styles, ukulele, drumming, etc. They have a free song circle every month. A great store and a great community resource.

Jake's had what I needed and was open Sunday so I could get it when I wanted it. The prices were right and the service was friendly and competent, a good experience even though the purchase was not large.
