Museum was very intriguing and provided a great and thought out history of Wisconsin. I enjoyed each of the floors, each with it's own unique theme. You can also view the state capitol very easily. The museum staff were also very friendly and helpful. I would come back to the Wisconsin Historical Museum!

Beware of the volunteers as you walk in. One woman hussled me into buying a couple of beer glasses that were on sale for 2 dollars a piece. Working for the sweet commission!!! Seriously though, it was an awesome sauce experience!

A wonderful free (with recommended donation) museum! I've lived most of my life in Wisconsin, so learning more about the history of this great state was a treat. The extensive exhibit about the Native Americans was fascinating, along with the exploration into the political history of the state. Highly recommended!

A museum that displays the history of the Wisconsin.
This portrays from the time original American Indian settlement, western settlement, the demographic and industrial growth, immigration, diversity, inclusivity, etc.
A special exhibit, on the village of Aztalan, the original American Indian settlement, is very impressive. Aztalan is about 30 mi. East of Madison. Worth visiting for the history seekers.
An exclusive section highlights all the treaties made in the Wisconsin region between the Union and the native Americans.

Nice presentation of WI history divided into 4 floors. 1st for special exhibits, 2nd for Native American history, 3rd for settler history and development, and 4th for WI political history. Special exhibit for December is the EverGleam Christmas trees by the Aluminum Specialty Company of Manitowoc.

Nice local museum. Great view of the capitol building. No fee to enter but donations are encouraged. Parking can be rough if you are not familiar with Madison, but there are plenty of parking garages in the area that are reasonably priced. There are three floors to visit filled with local and Wisconsin history.

Loved this place. Per usual, only had an hour to bump around. The native people's floor is one of the best I've seen. The agriculture exhibits are excellent. I highly recommend visiting this museum if you are in downtown Madison.

Had a great experience here! Their website had the wrong tour time posted, but a volunteer gave me and my daughters a personal tour of the museum. Very cool information about our state right in the middle of Capital Square. We will definitely be back.

I remember coming here 4 years ago! I had such an amazing learning experience! I learned quite a lot about what Wisconsin's history had to offer, and was thoroughly impressed with how interactive it was.
I wish I had more money for the gift shop though! There was so much I wanted to buy!

I really enjoyed this Museum, parts of it are campy, but they're mixed in with really cool interesting history. You can probably visit the whole Museum in about an hour, so it makes a good short Excursion. It is also near a bunch of other free museums, so if you want to spend more time Museuming, this makes it good stop on your tour. I was especially a fan of the aluminum Christmas tree exhibit around Christmas 2017!!

We toured the museum on a Friday and spent about 2 hours browsing all three floors of exhibits. They have a lot of placards describing early Wisconsin history through native americans and the social and political history of the state (including a good dose of industry, manufacturing, ag related products). We had a grand time! And, its free! Also the display of aluminum trees is so nostalgic! My grandmother had a silver tree with the rotating light display on it. Finally, the shop is very, very good as well. Reasonably priced treasures and books.

The kids had a great time while learning all about our great state of Wisconsin! The underwater shipwreck exhibit was not what they expected, and didn't hold their attention very long, so I'm very glad the rest of the museum was worthwhile!

Chaperoned a field trip with my daughter's class. The tour guide was excellent, and the displays were extensive and well done. You could easily spend a day there, or plan several trips to spend an hour on each floor.

Great place to spend the day to learn about the history of Wisconsin. And, great view of the Capitol from the 4th floor.

I visited the Wisconsin Historical Museum to see the Ever Gleam exhibit showcasing their assortment of aluminum Christmas trees. The exhibit was pretty small, but it was interesting to see some of the history of them. I didn't realize that this was their 60th year on display for the holidays. The exhibits rotate through. Check their website for events.
