Pete's Chinese Cafe is a neighborhood staple. It has been on the same corner of 12 and Elizabeth for almost 40 years. The food is excellent, tasty and delicious!
Pete is such a character. He thinks he wants to retire but he's too busy abusing and laughing with all the people coming in and out of his restaurant. It's hilarious!
Highly recommend the triple delight with garlic sauce!

My love and savior for American Chinese food. Came here for the 1st time on Christmas day to satisfy and General Tao's chicken craving and it did not disappoint. This is now my go to for american-chinese quisine.

It was all around just good for for a good price. I heard a lot about this spot all over from friends and co-workers and thought it would just be another mid spot and I was just flat wrong.

Also grabbed some lo mein and crab ragoons - all were good. Not all the dishes are absolutely spactacular, but for the price it's just an amazing deal. Can't wait to come back and try some more food from here.

I hope business is well for Peter, because this would be a huge loss for the neighborhood if it didn't stick around for a loooong time.

American Chinese food but at a really high standard. The cheese wontons are some of the best I’ve had in Denver- lots of filling and really fresh! The walnut shrimp was perfectly sauced with caramelised walnuts and juicy, plentiful breaded shrimp. The beef noodles brimming with flavor, and mushu pork too - the aromatics shine in their dishes but well balanced with the protein. They don’t skimp on quality or quantity and have a great variety I plan to work my way through.

Came to this un-huge and wonderful neighborhood gem of a restaurant serving Chinese cuisine on a Sunday early evening as a party of three. We were seated right away and greeted by none other than Peter, the owner/proprietor and namesake of the restaurant. Ordered three dishes, which came out in about ten minutes. The sesame chicken is REALLY great, especially if you like a slightly caramelized sauce on the tender chicken pieces. Singapore noodles are very flavorfully prepared, and the simple, yet very tasty green beans were delicious too. There are only a handful of tables and seats, but that just adds to the charm of this restaurant. No MSG used in the food, if you care about that kind of thing. Very very highly recommended!

I usually get Kung pao at American Chinese places, and this was one of the top 3 Kung Paos I had (other two were in Bangkok Chinatown). Better than expected food, high quality even. Only complaint is the hot and sour soup was stingy for 4 dollars, didn't even want to take a picture of it.

It’s more expensive than other Chinese restaurants in the area, but the customer service is excellent and the food never disappoints. I’m genuinely impressed by the quality of the food. It’s Much much better than Great Wall and golden panda. I will be ordering from here again.

Perfect little hole in the wall Chinese restaurant. Some of the best Asian food I’ve had in a long time. The general Tao chicken was crispy and flavorful. The gentleman at the counter was very nice as well.

We were in the area and found a gem! The customer service by both of the front staff was outstanding. They both were answering phones and helping carry out customers. We ordered our food and it came out quick, hot and super delicious! We were sat at a window table, given water and plates; a memorable experience as we originally ordered to go. We enjoyed the food and service so much we will become regulars for Chinese food! We tipped largely after seeing the best customer service we have every experienced. The portions were large enough for 2 plates. We had Kung Pao chicken and orange chicken. Both delicious I’d go for Orange chicken again.

I called in for an order pick up. The timing was accurate and ready to go when i arrived. Family owned and run and i had some fun interaction with them at my pick up. The sesame chicken was great. I also recommend the fried chicken dumplings. I tried some of the teriyaki chicken my friend got and i might have to get that on my next time i order. This will be more often now i know it is there! I highly recommend this establishment. One note is there is not much seating (maybe 4 small tables) so dont plan on a family outing there. Order delivery or pick it up and you will be happy.

Best Chinese in town and my go to spot. Prices are extremely reasonable and service is always friendly! The food is by far the most authentic in town and they have awesome lunch specials. I live walking distance but have heard they also have a great delivery service. Don’t waste your money anywhere else

Wow wow wow! I was recommended this place, and I was not disappointed! The food was phenomenal, but I think above that, it was the atmosphere. This was my first visit and I was immediately welcomed with sarcasm and warmth lol. Peter is a character and his banter just made me laugh nonstop. The way he spoke when customers, you can tell they were regulars because it just felt homie. The cafe is small so it’s mostly takeout. If you can though I highly recommend dining in. I was also able to practice my mandarin a bit so that’s a bonus for me. Overall, Peter’s Chinese Cafe was a home away from home. The food was hot, fresh, and the portions were enough to share. Conversation flowed. I entered with a smile and left with a grin. Peter now has a regular customer. Till next time!

Peter's has been here since mid 80s. Although I've passed by here many times, this was my first time dining here.
Food was fresh, hot and good.
I would definitely eat here again.

This place is fantastic! I been coming here for over 2 years. Every time we come back the food is always fresh, made to order and ridiculously tasty. We had Hot & Spicy Beef Broccoli, Chicken Lo Mein and Chicken with Garlic sauce. Everything was simply amazing. This place is small, there is about 6 tables. If you snag a table expect great service. I will always come back.

Congress Park staple. Unfortunately the Californians have moved in and are rating this place like it’s in China Town….I have been eating here for 20 years. Amazing dishes. Tofu especially. Shame it looks like people want it replaced with another hipster burger joint.

Peter’s Chinese is the place to go on this side of town for delicious Chinese take out. I always get the chicken teriyaki with fried rice and their egg rolls. They hook you up with plenty of food to feed you twice. Their house made teriyaki sauce is legit. They are friendly inside, but keep in mind they are super busy! Everyone there works so hard to get your food ready as fast as possible. I respect their hustle and try to tip them well when I can.

Truly GREAT little neighborhood spot.

Food was easily some of the best Chinese food I've had in Denver (if not *the* best — editor's note: get the sesame chicken).

The owner Peter was there who was a delightful human with a great sense of humor — and had lots to say about the neighborhood and its changes over the years (and had some good stock picks 😂 )

Sad it's taken me this long to find this place. Will be back!

Doing it the right way after all these years. First time in and I was instantly reminded of the good old days eating with my family as a kid at our favorite chinese restaurant when the food was just better. Potstickers, hot and sour soup( with pork in it) and lots of nostalgia for some good American Chinese food!

The signage and lack of seating in the dinning area should be enough to let you know this place is legit. Peter is usually on site, grumpy, and phenomenal. This is old Denver at its finest.
